anthonymcgrath
hi everyone, I know its not the most complex of tasks but its amazing how many ppl in the uk ask this one so I wrote up a tutorial and thought I'd post it up on here too (with your permission) http://www.anthonymcgrath.co.uk/gtroc/fuelfilter.htm Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/167353-changing-your-fuel-filter/ Share on other sites
Basti
you're right it isnt that complicated but that is an awesome write up. your trick with the hot water on the hoses is one i wish i knew before. woulda save me a lot of frustration and skinned knuckles. i tried wd40 lol. cleaned it off at the end but now im forever worrying that i over lubed them and they are gonna pop of and spray fuel all over my engine. I'd never tried it before and it just kinda popped in my head - didn't think it'd make the job that much easier lol! Cable ties should help to hold the hoses on i reckon ? just a guess though. lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/167353-changing-your-fuel-filter/#findComment-3129522 Share on other sites
MANWHORE
That's gold about you pouring the fuel back into the tank. When I did the fuel filter on my mate's car, we were trying to think of good ideas of what to do with the fuel. When doing the filter, it drops a fair bit of fuel. My friend thought the most effective way of not wasting it was to light it on fire (not near car) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/167353-changing-your-fuel-filter/#findComment-3129799 Share on other sites
BAMR33
When I did mine I just put hose scissor clamp things each side of the filter and put rags under where the remaining petrol from the filter would drop. xRHETTx
Don't know the part number but any Autobarn Supercheap Bursons etc will have them, just look in the catalogues they have lying around the store and find it - its very similar to the one used on the 300ZXs. (they are actually interchangable, the only difference is the bend on the outlet side of the filter) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/167353-changing-your-fuel-filter/#findComment-3189385 Share on other sites

bloodsword27
ive actually heard that the fuel filter for 300zx are the same fittings but better flowing due to its larger size not sure about its validity but guess you could check up with shops or somewith an old 300zx filter and test fit (with clamps on etc coz u dont want crap going through) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/167353-changing-your-fuel-filter/#findComment-3192411 Share on other sites
RBwhatever
ive actually heard that the fuel filter for 300zx are the same fittings but better flowing due to its larger size not sure about its validity but guess you could check up with shops or somewith an old 300zx filter and test fit (with clamps on etc coz u dont want crap going through) Should be about the same size. It just doesn't have the right angle connection on the top. I changed mine recently. The hot water trick didn't work for me. I just undid the 2 nuts the hold the bracket and took it off so I could get some easier twisting action on the hoses. Changed the filters within 2mins. Basti
check with your local supercheap. the place i got mine had two part numbers for the z32, one with the bent fitting and one with straight. i cant remember the brand though. its about 1.5 times the diameter of the one i replaced so gotta flow better imo.
