Well now having this turbo,and finaly getting time to take it all apart, needs a seal kit through it, no big deal, one on the way.

The Compressor is 59 trim and the A/R is about .65 or so hard to measure exactly

I could not get the rear housing off, but i presume it's same specs as slides high flows. How does one remove this,i could move the housing on the core, but i tried to pull it off, and it almost felt like it was hitting the turine.

Are these compressor specs any good? what sought of performance would it do on an RB25?

Hi guys.

I have an opertunity to buy this turbo, the specs as yet are unknow. I am only looking for a slight upgrade, and i belive this could meet the bill.

all i have at the moment is:

Rebuilt 360 degree thrust bearings 3 months ago.

It has a t3 exhaust flange from a Nissan skyline with a compressor housing from a Rx7, it has larger exhaust wheel + high flow

It look as good as new, What sought of things can i check, ie measure to give me an indication of the turbos performance?

I simply need some way of determening what this may do and how well it might work on an Rb25det.

so would it be any good, apparantly it has a skyline rear high flowed with an Rx7 front high flowed or something.

Wjat questions do i ask the guy to get some idea, i mean what does one measure to work out what the turbo may do, it inlet size, outlet size, and so forh

rear wheel looks big, like a max oversize rear housing/wheel

front, who knows....... thats the important one tho

if its a bargain, then try it out. can always resell for what you get it for.

if its over $700 dont bother, talk to Slide here about his highflows

Id say give it a shot..... have you got engine management to suit ? 9edit: remap + safc, yeah sounds good)

i just dont get it

there are probably 20 pages of proven rb25 and turbo combinations

there are a complete range of off the shelf garrett items with compressor maps

and you can choose what combo's from gcg

but you insist on picking random combo turbos with no information and wanting to know if they work?

why the take risk on unknown combos that might not work / fit when you can choose proven results and just pick the power figure / liner curve you would like ?

and even if its a bargain, youll probably just be disappointed with everyone else that comes along an ebay/friend "bargain" hiflow turbo super combo turbo that either sucks, needs a big list of crap to make it fit or just plain old sucks and performs like a bucket of crap. why take the guesswork when the answers and work has already been done

Firstly, any turbo of the shell is a rip off, no matter what you pay. CGC are a rip off the only turbo i would consider is a SLIDE high flow.

I am simply trying to be different, everyone does the same thing, buys and off the shelf turbo and goes wow it worked. I'm am trying to do something different for a change. BUT the main reason i am asking, is that the perosn selling the turbo has no idea about it, so i need to ask stuff but no idea what to ask to get correct anwsers. AND perhaps by asking a question someone here has used a simillar setup and got good results.

I am not saying i would buy it, i just have not heard anything about it. I am actually more interested in a SLIDE high flow, but i figured i would as here.

SO thanks for the advice Paul, also turbo is a direct bolt on. I have all the elbows and bits for the intake.

buy quality parts (with a solid history of good results) and you cut down your time chasing your arse trying to trouble shoot problems second rate/unknown parts give you.

People use off the shelf for a reason.

1) It works

2) Works well

3) Results/specs are attainable easily and you can match turbo perfectly.

If its off a skyline, ask for a dyno printout....................bet they don't have one [i bet they do]!!! Why, cos they would be embarassed to show it.

I can understand being differrent there are 1000 odd proven examples... i go in enough cars now that owners love that i simply would have refused to pay for because they are well below what i consider good upgrades.

If the seller cant give you all the specs or knows nothing... he knows alot more than he is willing to share most probaly taken it somewhere and got told i aint fitting that shite....

FARK off these stupid idea's of being different and not wanting to be a sheep and spend a little more on something that you wont want to change in 2weeks after its done and spending more money on something that was a "direct bolt on" :D

You said it yourself that you only wanted around 250ish (which is bucket loads for a daily) which can be achieved with a slide highflow ;)

Dont write this turbo off. It sounds very similar to a hiflow i was looking at back in 2001 through ATS in Adelaide. They took an RX7 turbo, a Nissan turbo, a bigger Garret compressor etc, it was a realy mis match and made a strong 200-210rwkws on a few cars at sane boost levels. Maybe track down ATS in Adelaide and see if Bill can shed any light on the turbo you are looking at.

Sure there are better ways to skin a cat these days, but i run a plain bearing truck turbo, and yet to see any latest and greatest turbos from HKS etc push it aside. If its the turbo im thinking of they are not a bad thing, I seem to recall the ZOOm S13 with RB20 had one before it switched to the TD06-20G with 16cm housing

if it IS a bragain (say $200) - buy it and give to aaron (Slide) to wave his wand over. going by the rear housing, that job is half done. front needs be matched to the back, probably a new thrust bearing core as well? ask arron for a quote......

sliding performance goodness for the win, the value is unbeatable. IMO. if its cheap buy it, for the same price as a slide highflow all up the issues (if any) could be rectified anyway.

I cant stress how well slides highflow works on a rb25det, just feels so much nicer to drive. :D I agree, I think the gcg is overpriced, no way its worth twice the price.

    • Sorry, just assumed that talk of coloured pads meant EBC red/green/yellow/shit stuff. I don't know the DBA pads, but it's a reasonable bet that they will be OK. DBA make good stuff generally. Those 4000 series rotors I linked to are very good. I may well replace the RDA rotors I have with those when required.
    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
