Hi fellas,

Yes, the bad news just keeps rolling in for me of late. I drove my wife to visit her parents in Nobile Park last month, my car got defected for having; an eletronic boost controller, pod filter and blow-off valve. When and go a full RWC done, EPA checked it ok and I brought it to VICROADS to clear etc - basically all got cleared up.

Now, just tonight - drove down there again to visit my in-laws as we usually do so every 2-3 weeks... bang, 3 cops came running after me as if I wa a terrorist and checked my car... because I fixed all of the above, they couldn't do anything so that decided to defect me for my wipers saying that they're slightly worn out (dangerous for winter driving etc), one of my registration lights were blown and that my 'black monkey perfume' thing hanging off my mirror inside were distracting me from safe driving - I just 3 demerit points and copped a $173 fine on the spot. I farked lost it, tried explaining to him why the fark he should leave me alone - the kunt laughed and then just drove off on me like a dick. All of the above happened on our way home from the in-laws, BTW.

"Poor guy", you may say - no, the story doesn't stop here - after the above kunt did that to me, I proceeded down princess highway heading home to the western suburbs... I kid you not; I drove for another 400 metres, and then another copper signals me to pull over - "what the fark now,' I said to my Wife (I rarely swear in front of her). The "Pig" steps out of his car and proceeds to my windows - "let me see your license, he says..." so I handed him my license - he then asks me to pop my hood - I told him that I had so literally 8 minutes ago and even showed him the fine etc - the kunt looks at my engine back with his torch, questions nearly everything - and then he finally says; "mate, I'm going to fine you for a few things... 1) your engine bay is dirty (mechanically hazardous), 2) you have an after-market intercooler, 3) your front bar is not original (physically-altered design - non-factory).

I said to him (got really emotionally) - "are you like f**ken heading me." The guy fines me again for 'insulting an officer on duty..." or something bullshit like that - so I copped another defect (canary), got another $177 fine for 'non-approved modifiications" plus I got a $131 fine for 'indesecent behavour with an officer on duty" or some shit like that.

You think this is the end... fark no... I was so farken pissed, shaken up and really mentally instable, so we pulled over at a KFC to have a little break so I can get my mind around all this - from nowhere, a cop car rocks up right next to me. He asks for my license... I was so mentally shaken up that I spoke what I felt like and told him to "leave me alone, I really have had it f**ken up here with you guys..." the cop asks me why - I explained. Strangely enough, this S/C was kinda undestanding... we spoke for like 10 minutes and then he walks around my car and then decides to issue another fine... he thinks my 3.0 inch HKS highflow exhaust was too noise - the farker EPA(ed) me... but did not fine me... still farken pain the farken arse to get it presented and cleared again...

The god-damn moral of this story - don't farken drive to the East Side if you have a modified Skyline - anything with a bodykit, nice wheels, neons, HID lights etc - they will do something to get you. I think they're trying to stamp out Sports cars - reason - as one cop once put it "you young guys in your sports cars are killing yourselves and killing others..."

Fark man, I am so stressed... don't know how I'm going to pay for all this shyte plus deal with the stress.... just don't get yourself in my shoes, ok!!!! FARKEN HELL, DAMN IT....

Good morning all, I'm going to bed now...

Dont drive a modified car if you cant handle it.

eerrr, did u actually read the post?!

if this shit happened to u, im sure u wouldnt be saying....'ahwell, its a modified car...i can handle it'

obviosuly the cops were being f*ks.

wtf is with every fkin mod/admin who reads a story like this....their reply is always....'tough shit, its a modded car' or 'get used to it, its a skyline'

f*kin hell R31Nismoid...spunky munkey was scrwed over hard by the cops (and u know it!) and all u can say is...."Dont drive a modified car if you cant handle it.".....ur a dikhead.

btw spunky, sorry to hear that crap hapened to u, not fair at all, hope it all works out ok.

unfortunate events man....expect this kinda stuff if you do own an import.

Wow - what a nightmare....

Thats the reason my car is stock as on the outside and i'm running a very quiet exhaust.

yep...im tryign to keep my car as stock as possible on the outside, running a quiet exhaust too....as for mods....just gonna be installing mods that are less likely to get me stopped.

so your of the belief that if your car is modified with illegal mods you should be allowed to drive it.

rules and laws are there for a reason. if you choose to go against them, there are consequences.

Very unlucky. Either it was just a coincedence that you got pulled over a few times or as stated already, the cops got on the blower to other units to nab you as they were obviously bored because the doughnut shops were closed or there was no murders, rapes, drug deals etc to solve. (No sarcasm here)

so your of the belief that if your car is modified with illegal mods you should be allowed to drive it.

Now I'm not to up to scratch on the laws down there in Victoria but lets be bloody fair. Yes there are some mods that are illegal but come on. An electronic boost controller, a pod filter, a blow off valve (understandable I guess with emissions but if hidden and not boosted around police), wipers being slightly worn out, one of the rego plate lights, a dirty engine bay for f*&k sake. Fair enough the HKS Exhaust for maybe being to loud but minor.

Yeah...... This screams illegal to me. How abought analy retentive cops who had nothing better to do. You wouldnt be a tad upset if you got busted for this. Im sure.

Hi fellas,

"mate, I'm going to fine you for a few things... 1) your engine bay is dirty (mechanically hazardous), 2) you have an after-market intercooler, 3) your front bar is not original (physically-altered design - non-factory).

Aftermarket intercoolers are only illegal with pods, I assume you had pods as well?

The engine bay is dirty I would recommend you confirm that as a minor defect.

Number 3, aftermarket front bars are not illegal, have you cut into the front bar at all to fit the intercooler or piping?

There is the ethical standards department for the police but it might not work too well if you did have illegal modifications :P

Regards,

Gareth

Oh mate now thats gotta suck to be honest. I mean really, yeah most of us drive a modded car someway or another but getting smashed many times in one night + getting fined has gotta suck. I feel for ya buddy...

where is the law that defines the level of grime acceptable in an engine bay before it becomes " mechanically Hazardous"? or is that another one of those things left up to the 'qualified professional' (the cop) to decide? id like to see him pop the hood of his patrol car and explain to me the difference.

most of the other shit he got done for is infact illegal (except maybe the frontbar) and as much as it hurts thats the law and we have to live with it. the fines for being abusive could have been avoided but some people can only take so much bullshit rite spunky?

victoria FTL

Man thats so bad.

Really feel for you.

I got pulled over 3 times within 15 minutes on the same stretch of road.

Weekend after I got my P's, so naturally I went for a drive on Friday night... Little did I know that where I was heading was full of bommodores and idiots doing burnouts when they left maccas etc.

Mate i feel for you, but i have never heard of harrasment at this level before. I hope you get things sorted and manage your stress.

sounds like the deep south of america, only the south for australia, you cant be gay, black, or non-christian. =P

    • OK, so again it has been a bit of a break but it was around researching what had been done since I didn't have access to Neil's records and not everything is obvious without pulling stuff apart. Happily the guy who assembled the engine had kept reasonable records, so we now know the final spec is: Bottom end: Standard block and crank Ross 86.5mm forgies, 9:1 compression Spool forged rods Standard main bolts Oil pump Spool billet gears in standard housing Aeroflow extended and baffled sump Head Freshly rebuilt standard head with new 80lb valve springs Mild porting/port match Head oil feed restrictor VCT disabled Tighe 805C reground cams (255 duration, 8.93 lift)  Adjustable cam gears on inlet/exhaust Standard head bolts, gasket not confirmed but assumed MLS External 555cc Nismo injectors Z32 AFM Bosch 023 Intank fuel pump Garret 2871 (factory housings and manifold) Hypertune FFP plenum with standard throttle   Time to book in a trip to Unigroup
    • I forgot about my shiny new plates!
    • Well, apparently they do fit, however this wont be a problem if not because the car will be stationary while i do the suspension work. I was just going to use the 16's to roll the old girl around if I needed to. I just need to get the E90 back on the road first. Yes! I'm a believer! 🙌 So, I contacted them because the site kinda sucks and I was really confused about what I'd need. They put together a package for me and because I was spraying all the seat surfaces and not doing spot fixes I decided not to send them a headrest to colour match, I just used their colour on file (and it was spot on).  I got some heavy duty cleaner, 1L of colour, a small bottle of dye hardener and a small bottle of the dye top coat. I also got a spray gun as I needed a larger nozzle than the gun I had and it was only $40 extra. From memory the total was ~$450 ish. Its not cheap but the result is awesome. They did add repair bits and pieces to the quote originally and the cost came down significantly when I said I didn't need any repair products. I did it over a weekend. The only issues I had were my own; I forgot to mix the hardener into the dye two coats but I had enough dye for 2 more coats with the hardener. I also just used up all the dye because why not and i rushed the last coat which gave me some runs. Thankfully the runs are under the headrests. The gun pattern wasn't great, very round and would have been better if it was a line. It made it a little tricky to get consistent coverage and I think having done the extra coats probably helped conceal any coverage issues. I contacted them again a few months later so I could get our X5 done (who the f**k thought white leather was a good idea for a family car?!) and they said they had some training to do in Sydney and I could get a reduced rate on the leather fix in the X5 if I let them demo their product on our car. So I agreed. When I took Bec in the E39 to pick it up, I showed them the job I'd done in my car and they were all (students included) really impressed. Note that they said the runs I created could be fixed easily at the time with a brush or an air compressor gun. So, now with the two cars done I can absolutely recommend Colourlock.  I'll take pics of both interiors and create a new thread.
    • Power is fed to the ECU when the ignition switch is switched to IGN, at terminal 58. That same wire also connects to the ECCS relay to provide both the coil power and the contact side. When the ECU sees power at 58 it switches 16 to earth, which pulls the ECCS relay on, which feeds main power into the ECU and also to a bunch of other things. None of this is directly involved in the fuel pump - it just has to happen first. The ECU will pull terminal 18 to earth when it wants the fuel pump to run. This allows the fuel pump relay to pull in, which switches power on into the rest of the fuel pump control equipment. The fuel pump control regulator is controlled from terminal 104 on the ECU and is switched high or low depending on whether the ECU thinks the pump needs to run high or low. (I don't know which way around that is, and it really doesn't matter right now). The fuel pump control reg is really just a resistor that controls how the power through the pump goes to earth. Either straight to earth, or via the resistor. This part doesn't matter much to us today. The power to the fuel pump relay comes from one of the switched wires from the IGN switch and fusebox that is not shown off to the left of this page. That power runs the fuel pump relay coil and a number of other engine peripherals. Those peripherals don't really matter. All that matters is that there should be power available at the relay when the key is in the right position. At least - I think it's switched. If it's not switched, then power will be there all the time. Either way, if you don't have power there when you need it (ie, key on) then it won't work. The input-output switching side of the relay gains its power from a line similar (but not the same as) the one that feeds the ECU. SO I presume that is switched. Again, if there is not power there when you need it, then you have to look upstream. And... the upshot of all that? There is no "ground" at the fuel pump relay. Where you say: and say that pin 1 Black/Pink is ground, that is not true. The ECU trigger is AF73, is black/pink, and is the "ground". When the ECU says it is. The Blue/White wire is the "constant" 12V to power the relay's coil. And when I say "constant", I mean it may well only be on when the key is on. As I said above. So, when the ECU says not to be running the pump (which is any time after about 3s of switching on, with no crank signal or engine speed yet), then you should see 12V at both 1 and 2. Because the 12V will be all the way up to the ECU terminal 18, waiting to be switched to ground. When the ECU switches the fuel pump on, then AF73 should go to ~0V, having been switched to ground and the voltage drop now occurring over the relay coil. 3 & 5 are easy. 5 is the other "constant" 12V, that may or may not be constant but will very much want to be there when the key is on. Same as above. 3 goes to the pump. There should never be 12V visible at 3 unless the relay is pulled in. As to where the immobiliser might have been spliced into all this.... It will either have to be on wire AF70 or AF71, whichever is most accessible near the alarm. Given that all those wires run from the engine bay fusebox or the ECU, via the driver's area to the rear of the car, it could really be either. AF70 will be the same colour from the appropriate fuse all the way to the pump. If it has been cut and is dangling, you should be able to see that  in that area somewhere. Same with AF71.   You really should be able to force the pump to run. Just jump 12V onto AF72 and it should go. That will prove that the pump itself is willing to go along with you when you sort out the upstream. You really should be able to force the fuel pump relay on. Just short AF73 to earth when the key is on. If the pump runs, then the relay is fine, and all the power up to both inputs on the relay is fine. If it doesn't run (and given that you checked the relay itself actually works) then one or both of AF70 and AF71 are not bringing power to the game.
    • @PranK can you elaborate further on the Colorlock Dye? The website has a lot of options. I'm sure you've done all the research. I have old genuine leather seats that I have bought various refurbing creams and such, but never a dye. Any info on how long it lasts? Does it wash out? Is it a hassle? What product do I actually need? Am I just buying this kit and following the steps the page advises or something else? https://www.colourlockaustralia.com.au/colourlock-leather-repair-kit-dye.html
