Hi Nick, As per everyone else I was sorry to hear and hope she goes back together with no dramas...and hey she'll come back stronger than ever ;)

I recommend going something like an N1 oil pump (I also believe the Jun oil pump is a top item but $$) and the rest of the mods you suggested from the SK thread. I too would baffle the sump at the very least.....items that fit to your existing sump without mods are fairly cheap and is good insurance. Definitely loose the Penrite IMO...I have not heard good things about it during my time on SAU....benno uses and recommends Castrol Edge 10W60 and this oil has been good enough for me over the past 3/4 years. Overfilling the oil is a must do although the extra capacity of the cooler will help.

Yep, and true to my word i run the setups based on that, and they are all fine.

Everyone said i wouldnt make anywhere near what i did on stock cams.

I did that easy enough.

And i'll also run a 300+rwkw circuit car with a stock sump/cams ;)

Chris ran 1.21's around sandown with RE55's on a stock RB26 engine/sump.... 250rwkw.... no issues with spun bearings, so there was no Benno Trickery there.

I've run 1.22's around sandown with RE55's and a stock sump (as far as i know anyway) But there is other Racepace trickery with the oil in my engine, but i think the sump is still stock. I don't think the sump is the issue, but gtst could be different to GTR... It wouldn't hurt to put a baffled sump in, but don't assume its needed....

I'm with Troy... Penrite 15w? I don't know if it was the oil, but i defiantly recommend the Castrol Edge Formula R 10w-60 stuff... that's what most of us run....

yeah the Penrite isn't my choice but I get the servicing for free so wasn't arguing... I really didn't think I would have this problem so I must admit I was a bit slack... just have to do things the right way, a little bit of work on the motor to control the oil better, using more oil and better oil I reckon I should be right... if I do everything else I don't think the sump is needed... I'm going to get a couple more quotes though, it will be going to a specialist workshop this time

interesting email I just received from Hi Octane when I inquired about oil restrictors for the RB25

"Under no circumstances should you restrict oil to the RB25 head. The RB25 runs hydraulic lifters and needs a lot more oil supply or will result in failure."

Reading what Nick has said I don't think the lack of baffled sump is to blame.....however not over filling the car + the fact it doesn't have a baffled sump cannot be good. First and foremost Benno recommends that you over fill the car with oil...once thats taken care of any other mod like the baffles etc etc is extra insurance.

15W what? IIRC, Penrite is 15W40, maybe. 15W60 (and the '60' is the critical number) seems to be what is required if you are intent on caning the engine.
Using your standard Penrite HPR stuff, 15W I think... oil was 4,000km old and really should have been changed (had done a DECA on that oil)... oil temp was okay, in the high 80's low 90's at the time... no misses car was running great, I was coming out of the 3rd last corner, going under the bridge, high rpms in 3rd gear and it just let go

yep Ash seriously considering that option... I really don't want to have to take it out again

Really bad news... sorry to hear.

eeek penrite... cricuit sprints is harsh on oil and drifting is even harsher... both penrite and Castrol both breakdown way to quickly in harsh conditions.. we spent a lot of time testing differrent oils last and early this year and group V's are really the only way to go. You should see castrol edge after one drift day.... it comes out like thin as like metho or water and it noticeably traumatised :D... drop out 300v or redline 10w-40 and it is like new after 3 events even mobil 1 seemed to fair way better :D redline actually told us to run the same sump all year but im old school and that scares me, we now change it every 2nd event to be sure.

i look at oil as insurance, pretty cheap insurance.

But are we sure that the rebuilt GTRs in Vic are usign completely std sumps?

I know a few of us no longer have standard sumps. The engine was out so may as well play it safe. It's a Benno built 8L. I'm pretty sure the same one is on Scotsmans, Jacks and Aarons.

imo a litre over full is way too much.keep in mind that to much oil and you can start to blow seals.

when i am changing the oil i allways empty whats left in the oil cooler out and refill the engine with 5L of oil then all it takes is another 100-200ml extra oil to fill up the oil cooler.all up,it fills everything and some. my 19row oil cooler in reality only holds a 100-200ml at a guess,if that.

because my car is pretty much exactly the same as yours is bar the azenis and i run 13psi all day every day.for ages and ages it has been this way..and see's pretty much the same sort of track abuse throughout the year id say that you should go the oil cooler route.

Castrol Edge sport 10w-60 is gold i use it every time.

ah yeah ive seen these killer 8l sumps down at access performance in vermont... killer items.

i know ppl with gtst that have nearly 300rwkw and still have standard bearings.. they are not really needed but u might as well do them while everything is out...

I have also done my research and act on various advise from various people, including those for interstate. If i just listened to my mechanic i would have never fitted the r34 hi-hlow, which was a great item and my current build would have a 800hp turbo running NOS :(

Yes one can make the power on a standard engine, using a bigger turbo or running more boost, etc. Cams have been a well proven benifit, and even Ben wouldn't disagree.

I never said a sump is a must, just stated that it is good insurance. I always side on the side of caution, so if some consider my enhancements as overkill, well so be it :( .

What brand of oil are Group V's or 300V?

Have you tested Fuchs GTO? (not sure if i spelt it correctly)

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve. 
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
