Hey Guys,

I was wondering if you could give me some advice on my screwed up situation.

2 years ago I imported a 89' Skyline GTR and it was broken into and thrashed, they have blown the engine. Did a compression test and first 5 cylinders are fine, but there is no real pressure in the 6th cylinder. They did some damage to the dash, the boost gauge was stolen, damged the key holes and the ignition barrel is busted.

Mind you the car was stolen a week before it was going to be complied so it wasn't insured.

I have had the car in storage for 2 years costing me an arm and a leg, trying to save the money for the rebuild but because of the bad financial situation I was in to start with and some family health issues, i just havent managed to get the rebuild money.

I am now at the point where I need to get rid of it. My problem is though I have to weigh up whether I should sell as is, or will I loose more money rebuilding it. The work to comply the car has been done, but I can't get a green slip, because you cant comply the car fully in its state at the moment, (Emissions etc).

Can I sell an uncomplied car?

Anyway, any words of advice would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

What does the car owe you? R32 GTRs are going for between $18-$25k depending on condition. It's a tough one, but maybe you'd get more back in sell the parts, then repairing it.

Just so everyone knows .. Importing a new engine from japan is cheaper than getting it rebuilt here..

Not that I want to know, fingers crossed my engine holds together, but where, what type of build level?

obviously getting it from japan you'd have to know someone over there... just to check its condition etc.. www.exciteautos.com.au see if he will import it for you... I was talking about a R32 hes rebuilding with him and he said rebuilding the engine costs more here so we imported an engine .. it was an RB20 .. but im sure goes for all engines

no way. a second hand RB20 costs like $1000 bucks. a second hand RB26 is more like $4 or $5 thousand. rebuilding them both is the same cost. so yes an RB20 may be cheaper to buy another one, but a 26 is not. and a rebuilt motor offers far more potential than another second hand one.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
