wow talk about sore spots, how can a 2007 car be compared to an older jap car, why not compare the new jap car to the new aus car lol, their will be no comparison at all this is a waste of thread, come on who is and has been the leader in tech for ages um do i say Japan.

My 2 cents

Thats a good point. And part of the problem i think is that in my eyes the cars comign out of Japan at the moment are poo :(

The 350Z is a nice car, but too expensive and pricey to mod. There are the STIs and EVOs, neither of which really do anything for me. There is no Silvia, No turbo Skyline, no RX7, no Supra.

If i was looking for a company car it would be straight to a 6L Monaro or HSV> Maybe a 350Z woudl tempt me but no back seat and an even bigger money pit then my shitty R32 :)

So, where are all the quick Japanese cars these days?

Roy

I'm with you.

Thankfully I have company cars on call and don't need to think about what I would go for if leasing/buying. Not much in the market at a realistic price that gets me too excited. If I had to choose the HSV would take some beating.

Lucky I can keep my old Nissan Patrol for the camping/fishing/tackling the shopping centre carparks (and intimidating city drivers - funny how 2.5 tonne of turbo diesel that couldn't keep pace with an Excel is supposedly intimidating) and run the GTR as a weekend toy.

The GTR brings lots of smiles and for the $ spent pretty fair performance but it aint no GT3 Porsche. But you can't leave them unattended for long (theft/damage) and the boys in blue love em. I'm just glad they tend to see me as a little old to be classified as a hoon.

Bring on some viable affordable performance.

The Japanese Market invented drift because there was no quick cars being produced anymore.

When the bubble burst ,the loans were all called in.

We are lucky that Nissan still survives today, not to mention others that nearly closed up shop.

If it was not for European car manufacturers all would have been torn apart and sold off.

I agree...what is coming out of the land of the rising sun is laking a bit of character and vision.

It is not their fault and has been forced on them because of the shit they got themselves into.

Yeh, fair enough. Its a shame though when ppl look at our local offerings from Holden and Ford ppl arent more considerate of the commercial aspects of the cars. Considering Aus car sales and lack of export, i think the cars made by Ford and Holden are brilliant. If Holden were given the money to make a global car i think they would do a great job because of the long culture of having to engineer cars with limited budgets, or more a shoe string then a budget.

Although, arent GM using the platform developed by Holden? Imagine if the next generation Monaro ( i hope there is one) was developed on the Corvette C6 platform? I think you could argue that a 7.0L 4 seater 2 door with alloy/cf panels, magnesium cradles and alloy spaceframe if executed with nice internal finishes could be a real marketable car to Holden in Aus, Opel in Europe and Chevrolet in the US as a Cadillac or something. I mean really take on M3, Audi, AMG etc. Its the type of car that could attract global sales and grow out of existing engine development programmes, current suspension and platforms...in real terms of cost to market it would be a killer. I need a job at GM, id be much better at spinning shit in their boardrooms then on SAU dribbling about RB20s :whistling:

Give Holden a bigger budget on the back of more car sales and the end product woudl be a lot better

okaaaay :whistling: what ever you are on they need to double the dose!

oh, and I am a closet aussie falcadore fan. I love the new Holden GTS or R8 or whatever it is. great looking car, nice design touches, big powerfull engine, nice spacious interior and at a pretty good price. :whistling:

Ok...name me one new car after 2001 that Japanese make that is a great circuit/track(GT) car.....???

Then name me one car that was made after 2002 that drifters use..besides the last Silvia/200sxwhich is no more?

Then you might see what I am on?

1. 350z

2. RX-8

There not cars.....just buckets of metal/bolts put together for consumer appeal..nothing more.

350Z..for track....who would want to race that large ass piece of metal.

RX-8 for drift.......no turbo...lol.

Here have what I have been taking......more crap from the japs.

That said, I'm keeping my R34 til the petrol runs out.

it wont run out they will make an Bio Fuel like they have with diesel

what is it new and improved, how can it be new if its improved?.

How about the s15... They were still being built after 2001 and make awesome track cars. There is guys doing 1.08.01's round wakefield in cars that have a HKS GTRS and coilovers. My car handles much better than a friend of mines R33 gtst with bilsteins.

I really like GTR's to. I am just ready for a new toy and I have wanted a GTR for a very long time so am about to sell my s15 to buy one but they aren't THAT good. They are very heavy and not really that well balanced and quite slow standard. Their quarter mile time is deceiving because of the 60 foot time they get due to the 4wd. In gear acceleration which is what we all 'feel' and a GTR is not very fast.

And re your drift comment.... that is seriously ignorant... Drift was a sport nobody wanted to support until there was a large following. Thats where touge drift comes from because that WAS the sport for many years- an illegal activity frowned upon.

This is not a personal attack but I am sure if you saw somebody talking about something they clearly had no idea about you would correct them because you see they are a bit lost...

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
