Another street racing accident in sydney - 2 commodores smash into a elderly couple.

"Witness Wade Watson told The Daily Telegraph two Commodores which were racing braked so hard their tyres exploded. "

There will never be a solution to street racing though I'm sure if the majority of these people did something like the Dutton Rally they would get over their need to race.

I went and watched the WA Dutton on the weekend and I was very impressed by the lack of ego's and the great fun these guys get to have. When driving from one event to another all these guys take care, no racing and from what i saw most were doing the speed limit.

I'm not pretending to have the solution but I'm sure it would cure a few peoples need to speed.

Cheers

Please don't wish that on anyone. The kind of clowns who engage in"street racing" have absolutely no place behind the wheel of a car, let alone in a motor sport event.

I thought smurf's post was valid, if people could take their car to a track more readily then they should/probably would get over street racing etc.

But what happens when there is no track close to where u live, or u have to drive 90 minutes to a track that is crap??

The gov supports the community for every activity you could think of except motor sport, people with guns get shooting galleries provided , hell even heroin addicts get them. +1 for more tracks, shit have cops at them and over a period of time perhaps the relationship would improve between modified car owners and the police.

How about the government pay for me to rock up at a track, fuel up my car(not as cheap as the free heroin they get from their busts) and do some laps. then not defect me on the way home for what is legal just because my car is not some dunga unroadworthy, unregistered, uninsured piece of shit blowing smoke etc, that they arent going to get a $$ from because the owners of such rides are typically broke anyway.

No doubt it is horrible to see people die on the road but in terms of what kills people in australia each year is the road toll even in the top 100? also u can simply not expect to have zero road toll, i expect the road toll this year to be the roughly the same as 20 years ago, is it?

Ideally id like a situation where it was so easy to take ur car to the track and that it was frowned upon by everyone to conduct any sort of racing on the street.

i could crap on forever tho, i better go get my fire blanket ready :D

nice rant i agree 100% mate

there was a big Charity commodore cruise on that night and id say they were on the way home from that. The couple had 7 kids.

"The police crash investigator said Mrs Howle had started making a right-hand turn across the highway at the same time the three cars entered the intersection. "

Looks like the 71 year old lady pulled out infront of oncomming traffic. I wonder how fast the commodores were going and if the outcome would have been different if they were not racing. What if it was a big truck ?

This could end up being another major media stunt "street racing this and that - high performance cars this and that"

To answer your second question first, I drive for three hours to get to Wanneroo. Having few facilities near where you live is completely normal for those of us who live in rural/regional parts of Australia.

How does laziness (track too far away) constitute a valid reason for killing someone by doing something stupid?

So the money the governments tip into building facilities like Eastern Creek, Phillip Island, Queensland Raceway etc etc counts for nothing?

Inspite of the ineptitude & incompetence of road safety "authorities" & the police, the road toll is going down. Everybody should thank the engineers that work at all the car companies for the multitudes of improvements that new cars have compared to those built 20 years ago.

According to the statistics the four most prevalent causes are:

Not wearing a seatbelt.

Drinking.

Fatigue.

Our old revenue raising favourite, speeding.

Ofcourse the fact that the fourth makes the consequences of the first three worse doesn't stop the whole of the focus being on the latter.

It is already ridiculously easy to get your car to a track. As the sticker says: Street racing is not drag racing. Driving like a dickhead on the roads is already frowned upon. Or has nobody noticed?

i'd say there is every chance that the old lady was to blame and the commodores weren't racing. the police just assume that because both commodores were side by side that they were racing. how many times you you been driving through the city and had another car next to you?

and the driver of the third car has come foward.

    • Oh, also, forgot to add these photos I believe.
    • Thought i'd update on this. I was able to get in contact with Craig Lieberman and later on Darryl Alison (owner of Kaizo Industries). Darryl was able to help me verify that my car was in fact one of theirs and is helping me find more info on mine !
    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
