to be honest Guilt-Tripper knocked the nail on the head...he said to me "you have no idea how awesome this car is" i said "yes i do" he replied "no you don't, you can't, because you own it" I thought about it and agree, other people appreciate this car a lot more than me...all i see is its faults and things id like to fix or change. I saw a genuine Nismo R32 GTR today, it was bog stock and had 31K original Klm's on it...i was drooling over it more than i ever would over my own car.

great work Paul, cant wait to see the results its definately got all the goodies ;) wait till u can slam 2nd and 3rd with the dogbox u will love it all that much more :)

what sort of ignition setup have you gone with? the vipec cdi unit and mercury coils, or still running the twin power dli and splitfires?

The PPG straight cut dogbox is not as bad as i thought...pretty smooth to shift up...down is a little tricky but ill get used to it. It has a nice whine to it too.

haha you must have never had the pleasure of driving a manual with no clutch for a period of time ;) no doubt you will pick it up in no time.

But yeah the ppg boxes are a great peice of kit (sweet to drive) and the boxes they supplied for our race cars were always spot on and driving Cats and mark phillips R33 proved the PPG to be the best offering available here.

One thing to always remmeber is to put together a thorough maintence scheme as no box is a set and forget item, i remmeber having a converstion with nomuken and abe and they were complaining about the hollingers are and the expense of keeping them together... one missed OH and it was game over (2 DNF later)...it put all plans we had for implementing one on hold (could not afford to keep one in the car).

It will be interesting when the latest offering from ex hollinger engineer $#@$ finishes testing on his new seq box. Rated well above the hollinger in constant torque / hp loadings and priced under 10k retail should see it sell like buggery.

twin power dli and splitfires...they work well together...no need to change them.

the box will do little work...a few drag meeting's a year and some dyno stuff. If i pull down every 1000klm ill be doing it every 5 years...lol. My box also is sporting a billet sandwich plate, i looked on PPG's site and this item appears to be no longer available.

The synchro box was slow to shift and really holding the car back from its optimum potential...with the power it used to have the car was a 9.70-9.80 with a better gearbox. Maybe i should borrow the low-mounts back one day and get the record back...worth a thought.

Right...exhaust adaptor finished...driving to alloy fabricators today to get small welding job done then off to dyno.

Dyno tuning tomorrow thanks to Guilt-Toy. Just some nice safe numbers for Powercruise, Mark will be coming down in March to do the full race tune.

its not until you stand back and really look at what you've achieved since you've started that you realise just what you've built, and the fact that you've had a hand in most of the build up it means alot more than goons that just take it to a shop, say "i want 9 sec" or "i want 900hp" and getting it back in 2 months and handing over cash, no idea whats gone into it, or done to it.

my mates the same, he has a fairly tame wrx... he got it completly standard and immaculate... 5 yrs ago, its by no means a rocket ship, but it has the ingredients to be a very quick street car, or even track car.. he cant see it though and always thinks of selling it and getting something else.

just dont cover it in ugly stickers (thats a note to workshops to come up with a decent name and a decent logo that doesnt look gay) and two.06l will be THE sweetest modded 9 sec GTR in australia.

cheers

8 SECOND CAR

When Where Who is this thing getting tune'd

Am interested in have a look c

We like to tune privately...as much as we would like to meet and greet, tuning a car like this requires a lot of patience and concentration. Im sure this is understood.

8 second GTR's are far from a 'given' im a long way from running an 8...having the hardware that is capable is one thing...putting a sub 9 second pass together is a whole new ballgame.

Im going to give it one hell of a go though.

Drove the car 20klm's from the workshop to the dyno...the gearbox is unbelieveable....the thing shifts in the blink of an eye. The lock on decel. from the Nismo 2 way is a little off-putting and will take some getting used to.

I remember the day when you had to call me asking how to set up a AVCR Boost controller, so it's probably a good thing that I not get involved.

I remember calling you as well Kyle back in the day.. that does not mean much now.. 6 years later ?? the 3 of us are all old school skyline owners from Newcastle........ we should be on the same team.

I f**kin hate Tuner wars.. it pisses me off. no offence.

There is no war here. I tried to be tactful as i could without causing offence.

I dont even like my best mates hanging around while tuning...ok.

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
