emergency brake in the driver's footwell. why are they starting this stupid trend again?

column shift auto in new cars. again..why?

Space?

What bugs me is the lines of 350z's and BMWs other than the new 3 coupe. They just dont work. There should be consitant flowing lines, not this stupid cross over stuff they do.

And Hybrid cars. Just buy a small deseil.

+1 The r33 ariel going all the way up whenever the stereo is on...

I mean why put in a swtich for hte user to decide if it was to go up.. im usually playing a cd an that dont need no aerial... pet pieve

sorry to go off topic, but...

sounds like you've wired it up incorrectly or your head unit doesn't have the required output.

My JVC head unit has one output for powered antenna and another for "remote control", which is hooked into the amp to power it on only when the stereo is on.

The powered antenna output ensures the antenna only goes up when i switch to radio input.

I did notice however that the previous owner joined both the antenna and remote control wires together, probably because the pioneer unit didn't have the required output for the antenna.

R33 tailight "alway" like a freaking fish bowl when it's raining - have try many times to fix it...

Sorry mate,

Have to dis-agree with you on this, i'm sure most 33 don't have this problem. If you say the headlight plastic cover thing go dull easy yeah i'm with you but deffinately not the tail lights.

dude ... citroen

There's a panel beating place in penrith with a handful of those things just rusting on the front lawn.

Citroen in general have a strange design. I drove a C5 and there wasn't even a proper control for the radio, you literally had to enter the menu on the centre console and then a sub menu just to switch the radio station.

Baguette/croissant holders were a nice touch :domokun:

Modern cars seem to have stupendously large pillars, which might be good for rigidity but absolutely crap for visibility. Looking out the back of the Z33 is like looking through a letterbox, which makes reverse parking quite.....exciting. I've heard other modern cars are also getting quite bad.

I also don't like the fact that companies don't set up the stalks for the export region. People expect the indicators to be on the "door" side of the steering column. Considering switchgear these days is all electronic and not a mechanical connection, it should be a piece of piss to swap them around.

Next is handling. I don't expect a car to be razor sharp, but I do expect it to go approximately where its pointed, approximately when its pointed. The only cars I've driven in the last 5 years have been sports cars or BMWs, and after a while you assume all cars handle at least as well. So hopping into an entry-model Camry a few years ago was an eye opener. I can't believe anyone would ever buy a car that rolled that much and was so slow to react. The BMW's ride isn't harsh by any means, so its possible to set up a car that your average Joe will enjoy without making a car where the steering wheel seems to only suggest changes to the angle of the tyres rather than a direct mechanical connection. Handling that bad should be illegal.

On sports cars, driver aids that can't be completely switched off. If you bought an RX8 or 350Z presumably you wanted a driver's car, so why can't you turn stability control all the way off?

Flat seats. Once again, it doesn't need to be a race-spec one piece shell, but driving some cars around a corner at a moderate pace can have you end up sitting in your passenger's lap.

Fingerprint-operated car security systems. Can't think of a better motivation for a carjacker to cut your hand off.

The "Tall boy" designs of hatchbacks in recent years. Yes it improves legroom because you're so upright, but it feels like you're sitting on a milk crate and it catches crosswinds like you wouldn't believe. Not particularly fun when you're in a light car. It also looks like a mini-MPV.

Top mount intercoolers. Why would you put a heat exchanger on top of your car's biggest heat source unless you wanted to increase the temperature of the stuff inside? Did a whole bunch of automotive engineers fail Thermodynamics 101?

Electric windows that aren't auto on every switch. Most drivers windows are auto - it can't cost that much to make every other one the same.

I can keep going all day :) If you want to experience the worst car I've ever driven for ergonomics, try the RenaultSport Clio. Its a fun package, but absolutely crap to live with.

+1

looks like noobs wired up their unit incorrectly lol

mine is done so that the the aerial only pops up when the radio is turned on, stays down when just listening to CD's

and u also have to button to select whether the aerial goes fully up or half way

back on topic

i hate my mum's camry pedal heights, me and my bro always get a sore foot after driving the car cost we have to put our foot in a very awkward position to drive it, but somehow my mum or sis never complains bout it..

    • Can't you put the pistons to TDC and then do the valve seals? Or will the drop down too far to pull them back up?
    • One thing I can tell you is, do it properly the first time. If you encounter unexpected problems just let the car sit for a week or two if you have to get some other parts or figure stuff out.  I'd have said go and use as many OEM parts as possible but since you want to change the turbo later on a custom kit is probably the better choice. Since I have no experience with RB25 just compare parts diagrams and images before buying a line kit and it should be easy to see if it has everything you need. Amayama has very good parts diagrams and part number lists, that is what I used a bunch to figure out what I might need. And don't forget to plan ahead and possibly renew other stuff that's easy to get to while you're in there doing the turbo lines. Happy wrenching
    • Update 4:   Hi all, good news. Engine is running and all the gaskets and seals seem to be working as intended. No leaks so far, even the JB Weld seems to hold. I flushed out the old coolant a few times and put in fresh coolant, not Nissan stuff, I decided to try the Ravenol Protect FL22, they claim it works for a wide variety of JDM cars and the opinions on it by some people were pretty good. And it has the nice poison green color! And man am I glad I bought a coolant system tester earlier this year, vacuum filling works wonders on this engine. I can definitely recommend this to anyone still doing it the old school way. All you need is compressed air supply. Will have to do a small test drive as soon as I can, I removed the gauge cluster again as the tacho needle was still bouncing around a bit but it was much better than before already.  I also found some cracks on all 4 tires inner and outer sidewalls. Apparently these tires should 't be parked on for extended periods or be kept under 0 degrees during storage, which I did not know. Clearly the previous owner didn't look into those details either, he probably bought them just cause they are cool semi-slicks. I'm just wondering how tf I am supposed to reach 30-80 degree tire temperatures on the public road consistenly, these tires were never going to work for my use case. I'll probably order Continental SportContact7 ones as these are the best allround summer tire available right now and I don't think I'll need anything crazier for now. Do let me know if you have experience with various tires and which ones you recommend.
    • You have no idea how many goddamn boxes I received these past three months haha Most have been put to use by now though, luckily
    • Not going to pretend I didn't do a bit of junky work this time around, but mostly due to the fact that some things I am not willing to spend days fixing right now, like wiring. I try to do most things properly the first time around.
