series 2 r32 (1991-1993) is heavier due to the side intrusion bars from factory. Which makes it P-Plate legal over the 1989-1990 model.

Although, when i was pulled over by the police, their system showed my r32 as 1250kg unladen mass. Going by my given estimate of 157kw factory, their on the spot calculation determined my car as over the p/w law (125kw)

They told me due to the 1kw over the limit they will let it slide but if i had an accident they would charge me for high-powered vehicle and insurance will be void.

I bet the system uses the same weight for all models of r32's making mine illegal, when its not.

Next time ill just tell them its 155kw from factory and everything will be fine

I didnt read the whole thread, but reading the first post, wheres the confusion? Isn't the law pretty clear now? ie. he can't drive the 34gt-t no matter when his license was issued.

Having said that, any P-platers get done for overpowered vehicle lately? Any news of teh massive fines (1k)?

first offense is $220 fine and 3 points for driving a high powered car under these new laws. I know someone who got caught.

this will answer all your questions!

if your car doenst pass this then you cant drive the car no matter when you got your licence b4 or after july 1 07!

http://webapps.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrne/vr...pwcalc?OpenForm

this is what it tells you when its over

The power to weight ratio exceeds 125 kw per tonne. By law P Plate drivers are unable to drive vehicles that exceed 125 kw per tonne.

and with the 32, yes some pass, but most people mod them so it throws them over the limit! and anway cops will still pull you over in a 32 just to see if you do have the mods and slap a canery on you!

and with the ugly law only 1 air mod is aloud they will get you 110%!

i got a canry and a EPA sticker one after the other, def for to many air mods, and i had to choose between my cooler or my pod, and BOV was just not aloud, and EPA, well my 4' HKS exhaust had to go! it was so far over the limit i had to put the stock one back on coz even putting the silencer back in did nothing..

the laws SUCK we cant do anything to these cars any more!

But the EPA and defects have always been there, and always will be part of owning a modified import, so i guess we can't complain.

Its just the loss of points for driving an overpowered vehicle that shits me (and most others) the most, still 9 months to go till im on my fulls :action-smiley-069:

doesnt really matter what you've done to it.. they dont have a mobile dyno so they cant prove you've upped the power in your car. ive been pulled on different occasions and twice ive been fine but once the cop said i was over the power to weight.. i just showed him the vicroads printout of the cars your allowed and a printout from the nissan manual of how heavy my car is (r32). Long story short he let me go.. but 3 weeks later i copped a epa letter haha :s

i tried to show the cop the weight of the car in my nissan manual but it wasnt in there.

Made my self look like a fool and didnt strengthen my argument (probably thought i found it but lied it wasnt in there) :S

What does your Nissan Manual state the weight of the car to be?

Police said that it needs to be unladen mass and NOT the kerb weight.

I drive nothing but high powered 'illegal' cars and have yet to have a problem with the cops in Melbourne.

I have a GTR r32 for daily use and never get any problems and even in my r33 gtst that stands out like dogs balls.

I'm constantly driving imports to go get complied with no number plates and still get away with it.

And i'm only on my 2nd yr of P's.

I'm sure my day will come. :D

I guess its the luck of the draw, or how you talk to the officer or something?.

Stagea for now is solving all my problems :D

vicroads state that if a vehicle is significantly modifed from standard then new power/weight figures are needed... i was going to engineer my old project datsun 1600 with heavy parts and a stock SR to make it P's legal, then strip it for track days... I never followed through though as i wanted a nicer daily.

It'll be interesting when someone comes across a officer who is a bit more informed i reckon

From this date a probationary licence holder will not be able to drive a vehicle if it has:

* An engine of eight or more cylinders;

* a turbocharged or supercharged engine (except diesel powered vehicles);

* an engine that has been modified to increase its performance; and/or

Because all they have to do is notice an exhaust, or similar... as that's a modification to increase power.

Then people will be in all sorts of strife. As you can have all the printouts in the world, wont save you unfortunately.

Its just going to require one person to be pinned in that manner, then it will be a free for all by the Police once they have a victory

Vicroads make all sorts of mistakes, there is way to much ambiguity in the company, I want to get my lincense back after losing it for six months and was told over the phone that i could have it back, then when i went into the office to get it, I was told that i still had to serve more time..... then after a few hours and a few phone calls, they ended up issuing me a full lincence (blue strip) all in the same day...

true nismoid but how can they actually prove that? you have an exhaust yeh but how can they prove it gives more power?

Well it would probably come down to them saying that it does, and you proving that it does not.

Seems to be the way the law system works here in my expiriences.

And lets face it, it does :D

So kinda arguing the point would only dig yourself a hole in a way.

Probably too caught up in the purchase of the car, blinded by turbo powahh :(

And they probably couldnt really be bothered, just checking for the sake of knowledge, seeing that there are so many P plate high powered cars going around.

i went to a public weigh bridge and had my car weighed; 1380kg.

before i had any mods to show increased power, i kept the printout in my glovebox but the cops don't want a bar of it.

even though at the time it was technically "underpowered" to the power to weight law, they couldn't care less.

i even went and spoke to several police at their stations. they all said something along the lines of there being some place which keeps all the technical data of all cars, and because the 1 car they used the data from was overpowered, it overrules all the same model.

this countries laws suck!

with me i bought a N/a but ive done extractors and exhaust too it (and pod).. even though its "* an engine that has been modified to increase its performance; and/or" i think they would let me go as its not like i have a turbo i could just say i bought the car with it.. doubt they would even notice the extractors anyway could just say there stock.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
