Hmm, I had a quick look at Nengun's site. A pair of project mu hatted, slotted rotors, for your car (ie 324x30) are $961.08 delivered. Surely not much different to the price for the DBA rubbish?

Worth looking up are Stoptech. They do a 324x30 hatted rotor also.

Brembo also do one, but that will be a fair amount of coin.

Try Tony & V-sport. He knows his shit & will steer you in the right direction particularly with regard to seals etc.

I got the full brembo seal kit for the fronts from Nissan for about $70 - Must be an error in pricing but i wasn't going to say anything... Original brembo packaging inside and all.

Project Mu for 960 isn't bad, but since we already have the DBA5000's, a replacement pair of discs (not hats) are only about 400 a pair... Can't find the price for replacement discs only for Project Mu.... And i really haven't had any trouble with DBA yet.... some people seam to love them some people seem to hate them...

I wonder if the Project Mu disc would fit a DBA5000 hat.....

Well you could always email Nengun/Greenline for a rotor & bolt price. Either that or sell the rotors you have whilst they are still good.

I am a bit bitter & twisted about DBA rotors because out of eight I have 2 cracked & the remainder not looking too sharp. For the $330 approx price for a 4000 series rotor & the awful slotting patterns & the lack of cooling....

I run dba 4000 on the race car and have not cracked them :D

do you give them a really good cool down lap/rounds of the carpark.

I managed to set the z's brakes on fire on sunday. they are crap

i ran out of brakes at turn one, sandown behind a maserati... not fun - standard Sumitomo GTR calipers and factory (curved vane, drilled) rotors.

turns out I cooked the fluid and the caliper seals were farked.

i still reckon that if you keep all the stock hardware in the best condition it can be in - braided lines, good fluid, good rotors, calipers rebuilt with new seals etc, the performance will be pretty damn good. only then go up to larger calipers / rotors...

I think the secret is as much about warming them up as cooling them down. AA near new set of DBA 4000s cracked on me at thi syears Dutton when my co-driver tried to pull the car up from about 210km/h at the end of the flyign half mile. The brakes woudl have been pretty cold at the start of the event and they just cracked straight through ruining the rest of the day (it was 10am when it cracked :D

They certainly are not very durable, and i question their suitability for track work??????

PS, this from a previously satisfied DBA customer with my last set lasting years and tens of thousands of road kms. Perhaps they have changed their manufacturing between 2002 and today?

4000's are definitely NOT recommended for track. DBA won't stand by them if they are used for track - I know because we fronted them after my 4000's shattered. They ONLY recommend the 5000's for track work.

Hmm for motorsport & premium street performance, so says the product description. So maybe they really mean for driving to the track to watch other people....

But no, they disclaim all warranty once you venture near a track.

Just sell your GTR, put all your good gear in an R32 GTSt then your R33 324 Brembo setup will mostl likely walk it in with 300kg less weight to pull up :(

One thing to remember is that if you are upgrading the brakes on an R33 GTR then there is strong demand for your old brakes. I woudl suggest you would get between $1600-2,000 for R33 GTR Brembos with pads and DBA 5000 rotors. It makes upgrades a lot cheaper when what you already have is desirable :)

How about losing some of the excess weight off the car? Or betta yet, sell your gtr and get a s15! haha My S15 running r33 gtr brembo's, project mu 2 pieces discs, never runs out of brakes with 280rwkw, amazing what a bit of weight reduction can do for ya braking =p

At this stage am leaning heavily towards the monobloc Alcon 6 pistons. No doubt when that happens I should be able to subsidise the purchase with the Brembos.

You can't put them on the back can you??

Maybe I should diet (along with the car) in the interim.

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
