Hey all,

I was having a look at hitech mufflers which claim to have the same noise level as a stock exhaust but allow the same power output as a performance exhaust... how true is this claim? I really do not want to attract any attention to the stagea im about to purchase but i would like to mod it for more power. Which exhausts can you suggest that will out put the same noise level as the stock exhaust but also allow extra power to be made.

Also which turbo would you suggest to replace the stock one to make about 18 psi. A friend of mine said to buy a 2nd hand wrx sti turbo which could reach 18psi no problem and still spool up pretty fast... what do you think?

I cant read jap... who is the distributor in australia for kakimoto?

Justjap is the official Australian distributor for Kakimoto. I have the O6&R Regu exhaust by Kakimoto and it is about as silent as a stock exhaust.

92-94 is quiet enough.

Quiet to a level that it cant be heard inside the car while cruising. I can only really hear mine under full song and thats about it. Will keep me out of trouble easily, and thats 3.5"

Every 3 db increse the sound volume doubles. I had epa test done with stock system from cat back (split dump and hi-flow cat) and came up to 90.4 db. Limit is 90 db in vic. So 93 db is twice as loud as stock, and 96 db is four times as loud.

I have a Jasma 3 into 3.5" system. Was tolerable with standard turbo, but fitted a gt30 0.86 and bacame a lot louder. I ended up fitting another muffler between the diff and the cannon bit at the back, which only decresed the noise level slightly.

Nice thread.

My kakimoto was ok (3.5" cat back) but I have now added a highflow and is just that bit worse. Slight drone at 2000-2500rpm if loading it up a bit.

Looking to quieten her down. It already has a centre and rear muffler.

Courier - Are you saying you have 3 mufflers on yours now?

Im thinking the SS is slightly louder than MSteel also..

hi-tech mufflers are true to their claim, very quiet without sacrificing performance, no in-cabin drone

i'm running 84db at 4800rpm, only mods are turbo back exhaust, pod filter, FMIC, standard ecu - 188rwkw on stock boost

Yeah i am running three, although ive been told the center one is a resonator. The extra muffler i fitted was one of those straight through chamber mufflers which doesnt seem to have any insulation to dampen out the noise. Instead it used the shape of the inside to cancell out noise. I should have used a straight through with the insulation packing in it instead.

Hi Nismoid , when you say 3.5" who's exhaust is it and is this on the HR31 or the GTR ?

Cheers A .

His is a 3.5 behind a RB26 in the HR31

Mine is the same twin muffler 3.5 design behind RB26 in R32GTR (slgihtly different shape to fit, obviously)

there are some pics of Ash's exhaust somewhere in here...

I can get some of mine on the weekend

Im also after a quiet cat back for my rb20. Ive been looking at Kakimoto but 92db is still too loud. I had a 5Zigen exhaust on my last skyline and was very quiet, however i didnt think too much about it before but i wish i had it now. I dont know what model from 5Zigen it was though. Im not even sure how many models they have.

Mine is a custom jobbie Adrian as Marus has covered

So a one off being a HR31... everything is 'one off' for me! Especially exhausts

There are pics in the other exhaust thread (in FI section), cant remember the name but it was only a few weeks old.

My Kakimoto is nowhere near 92db.

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
