thanks mate, finally fixed :) , i didnt change it though in the 1st place.

finally read all 20 pages! :D it kicked my ass, i was a bit here and there and from wat i understand this russian fella is still trying to pirate proof it :S im not sure though, someone comfirm?

thought how are some people that are selling have the thing converted :S, sorry for the stupid questions, im just a bit lost... :S

Hey ezy03,

Good on ya for reading the whole thing, we've all had to do it at some stage.

To answer your question above:

No one has really converted the Japanese to English really. The conversions that are spoken about are GPS, TV conversions done by Chris Rogers, which is simply installing an Australian GPS and Australian Digital TV Tuner to the car to run through the original screen.

However all the options that come standard with the car are still in Japanese, i.e. the economy leave, the compass, the trip computer, etc, etc.

Hope that helps, I know it is a lot of information to absorb in one go, reading all 21 pages, hahaha.

The GPS, TV etc will be all in english. It is just another application on top of the original Japanese stuff.

In the background (at the flick of a switch) is all the original Japanese stuff, which remains untouched.

The cost will be a couple of thousands.

The man you really want to speak to is Chris Rogers (that is his real name and his name in this forum, look him up) He is based in Brisbane but travels around Australia constantly working on these vehicles for all of us here in the forum.

He will be able to give you all the technical specifics of how this will all work.

Essentially, the car will have two GPS systems, one with Australian maps and in English, and one with Japanese maps and in Japanese, which you will never use.

...unless you and the car are in Japan...

Arrgghhh pressed the add reply too quickly :)

....as I was saying, yes that is an option I didn't think of, if both you and the car are in Japan......although it'll still be in Japanese, so unless you learn your "turn left", "turn right", "500 meters", etc, etc then it'll still be hard to use it.

Especially when you want to tell it where to go, where do you start??? LOL

  • 3 weeks later...

I know I'm bumping the thread which will probably start more question on it and I for one want the thread to die (it's been frustrating that it's taken sooo long and I've only been waiting 4 months not 18) but here goes...

What I'm basically thinking is that I've started to grow accustomed to the Japanese and really can't see myself using much of the Car computer stuff whether english or Japanese. And the fact that this guy's arsed around for so long instils no faith in me that if the software hack goes pear shaped you'll get any kind of support. Because he's taken so long I almost don't want to reward him by buying his software. So unless the end product is $5 then basically he can shove it! I mean seriously, he's probably spent 5 times the effort on his stupid (and defeatable) security measures. Realistically he's probably going to be asking $100 for his disks  , tell himhe's dreaming.

Is it just me being a crank pants or do others feel this way?

Thanks for the positive comments.

Yes, it is taking a long time but I don't see you or anyone else in the World offering any other alternative that is remotely affordable.

Personally I am happy that some one on the other side of the World is prepared to produce a product that will help those that are interested.

Honestly I don't care if people want it or not. I am doing this to help the people who are interested.

I agree that the longer this takes the less people will want to buy it or feel the need for it as they are used to the screens. I can not change the time it is taking.

If you have another/better solution go on and post it.

Cheers

Andy

cranky pants

Agree with what Andy said above, and I think what most people are forgetting is that it is not costing anything to wait.

Got $100 and the disc is not ready? Go get you and yours a nice dinner.

Sorry Damo, but I seem to think that all these people that are whining about how long it has taken for someone to do something they can't will be very quick to fork out $100 (or whatever) once the disc is available.

If you don't want it, don't bother posting in this thread.

Pretty simple really.

Andy,

Like most people am happy to wait. The thing is the programmer has to realize though is that the cars aren't getting any newer and portable navi's are getting cheaper. The jap trip computer options are second nature now. So the reality is that when the software comes out :- rather than people paying $100 for eg they may only pay 50 or buy a Portable / Warrantable /Local navi for just a bit more. The programmer is "shooting himself in the hip-pocket" the longer this goes.

So I guess the question is:- are we weeks away or months away? and what price is he anticipating for the conversion ?

thanks

Elie

Hey guys,

As I understand the software conversion will simply convert the writing from Japanese to English for all in our car options, trip computer, etc., it will NOT fix our navi problem, in that the navigation CD that comes with the car will still be in Japanese and only for Japanese roads, not Australian maps, am I correct?

At least that is what I'm waiting for because I already had Chris fix my navi problem!

I agree, the longer it takes the less it is worth to any one interested.

That is why I have not quoted a price because I have still to negotiate this with him. He is aware that the cost will come down the longer it takes.

I hope weeks but he advised me last night that in his testing he has found some issues with the security that he wants to resolve first.

Cheers

Andy

Did he realise that his proposed security model wont work? (unless it reads the VIN, or something)....

(i dont mean to sound rude, i am very grateful for the work that is underway)

You don't sound rude.

I really do not know how the system is going to create the unique security for each conversion but he is confident there is enough information that he can use to create a unique code. I don't know what information he is seeing in the system as he has wisely kept this to him self.

I like all of you want this sooner rather than later but he will not give me a fixed date at this stage.

Cheers

Andy

    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
    • While I was waiting for the new parts to come in for the charge pipe and radiator I decided to do some turbo modification. The drive pressure (exhaust backpressure) was a lot higher that I thought it should be. For 32lbs of boost drive was 55lbs. The turbine housing is a 1.10AR and my turbo builder has suggested to go to a 1.25AR. To test if a larger AR would do anything to reduce drive pressure AND not spend any money I decided to hog out the divider in my current housing. I removed it from the inlet and the whole way through the housing.  After reassembly and testing it doesn't look like this modification did anything for reducing drive pressure or requiring more fuel (making more power). Oh well, it was worth a shot. We'll get some data at the track if it makes it past the 60ft. I also machined a $7 shift knob off Amazon to fit my Stillway shifter since I didn't like the Stillway shift knob. Next on the list was the radiator replacement and fabrication of a new intercooler tube that had no silicon coupler. No pictures of this - I was short on time each night after work to get this done and didn't stop to take pictures.  Next was to get the clutch disks out and replaced. Previously when installing the dogbox I had ordered a set of the same sintered iron disks I had been running because I switched to the 26-spline input shaft. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any markings or brand name on them like all my old disks had but installed them anyway. At the track I could not get the clutch to lock up using my normal strategies. After two track nights I reached out to the clutch manufacturer and ask their thoughts. They said they had to switch the material out because they were having trouble getting the original material and that this new material would not take to being slipped very well.  So out with the first set of 26-spline disks and in with the correct material 26-spline disks. While I had the trans out I added an inspection/service hole. I've wanted one of these for a while. Now I can have a look at things and change the front cover shimming when needed (clutch wear). I hustled and got the clutch change done in a few hours on a Saturday. Hopped in the car and drove home. On the way home I did a 1-3 pull. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd the core plug in the back of the cylinder head popped out and dumped all the coolant. Thankfully I was only 30 seconds from home and coasted it there. Datalog showed nothing unusual and 2.5psi of coolant pressure. That plug has been in there since 1992 but I guess it worked its way out. Pulled the trans AGAIN and replaced the plug, JB welded it in, and made a brace. Also deleted the head drain I had added in during the bearing issue fiasco.  I am currently changing my boost control plumbing to make it cleaner. After that is done I'll make another attempt at getting past the 60.
