I am awaiting an R34 GTT Apexi Power FC unit with hand controller and Boost controller

For a Series 1 automatic Stagea what is needed to get it going.

1st. get an Automtaic shift kit valve body actuator modification done. firm up the shifts. far far quicker than the sloppy stnd shifts. get it ready for the PFC auto shifts.

2nd. install R34 GTT PFC unit and wire up.

3rd. split TPS wire (pin #23) into 2 with one from the ECU to the rear Attessa ecu to give it a tps signal. confirm?

4th-A. either use 510k ohm resistor from Throttle motor sensor signal (pin #51) on ecu to ground

or

4th-B. use 10.3 Volt diode between ignition and pin 51, and a 400 ohm resistor between earth and pin 51

what am I missing?

i'll be interested in the outcome there tangles , hope it goes good, (giving up your safc/sitc combo), for the extra outlay i hope the benifits are worth it, for you and all of us.

regards leigh.

Sorry no sale of the piggybacks as of yet.

I was going to do the $1300 drdrift ecu remap and run the piggybacks still with it all for finetuning, but I found the PowerFC kit for just over a grand.

thought Id try it first, hold my piggy's and see how it performs for 6months (car + auto).

plenty of auto R33 skylines run with the power fc successfully, I know a number in SA with varying degrees of mods (from 200rwkw to 330rwkw)

just got to get the awd + engine + ecu + auto working smoothly, and then see how it goes.

if I keep the setup, if it feels good, then I expect a rebuild of the box in ~3yrs time, to last another 7+yrs

............. nothing different to replacing gearboxes and clutchs and pressure plates and all that manual jazz.

I wouldnt do this with the auto with out the quick shifting auto shit kit. Ign retard at gear changes wont be a huge factor over the long term, I hope, as Mike from MV Autos knows his skyline autos and this is the best shift kit going around. When the box goes I'll take it to him for a kevlar band rebuild jobbie, in liue of 3months of morgage payments ;)

and if it all isnt good at some stage, can still do the remap to the stnd ecu, and Power FC's will still be in hot demand for a rarish R34 GTT item

anyway, what am I missing

what wires need to be spliced and rewired - pics?

any pics of the attessa ecu wire ?

I'll get a tuning house to wire and install but I need to be prearmed with info but I dont understand this "use 10.3 Volt diode between ignition and pin 51"... what ignition - wire at ecu or wire at key insert, ??

bump

eccs pinout for Stagea, costs $5 US to download but $10 US to join site. worth it IMO. copyright tho for private use only.

From a quick look at it, the Attessa shouldnt be affected, but I'll test this for sure.

Will wire up with Andys diagram (cheers - "use 10.3 Volt diode between ignition and pin 51, and a 400 ohm resistor between earth and pin 51")

then setup a basic map, then putter down to a garage and get on a hoist and test to see all 4 wheels spinning ;)

then disconnect until tune time

oh, received the R34 GTT Power FC today, with boost control kit

me happy

you have a series 1 stagea, which has a series 2 R33 motor, correct?

if so, the R34 PFC wont work, as its for the NEO engine, which has a few electronic differences, unles you are going to re-wire it.. (for the the CAS wires are completely opposite)

It will work

rewiring will need to be done, not much tho

the Stagea ecu uses a R34 ecu plug

as simple as that

Very much looking forward to seeing the results of this!!

So will this mean you need to change gears using the shifter or will the auto work as per normal?

Going from the discussion a while back about whether the auto will be fully supported or not, SK mentioned it probably wont be as smooth in all situations or as nice on the gearbox as with the stock ecu...

I guess with the shift kit its not as silky smooth as stock anyway (though not rough either) and the gearboxes are strong enough to handle it - as evidenced by the auto skylines running aftermarket ecu's.

Will be interesting to see what gains (right across the power graph) you see by just changing the ecu. Another 20awkw perhaps? You might be at the magic 200awkw fairly soon...

Yeah Id hope for sure for a 200awkw tune

It may be that I have to have a mechanical shifter installed by MVs but there are plenty of auto r33's out there that dont use this, but use power rfc's, so it should be ok.

The only issue I see is cutting and rewiring a couple of wires.

With the correct pinouts (I have R34 skyline and Stagea pinouts, there are difference) Im sure a qualified auto electrician (with full INSURANCE in case the Pfc blows, lol) will be able to do the job for next to nix.

idea - are all R34 PFC's the same? would it help if someone else who's fitted one in a R33 posted pics? or do you have this info already?

that would be nice :ermm:

r34 powerfc's are for GTT's yes, thats all there is for the RB25's

Pretty sure it can't be done. Stagea S1 ecu is unique - plug and pinouts like R34 but different inside. I think Tangles is still using a chipped daughterboard in the stock ecu supplied by Toshi.

I plugged it up and it idled fine

didnt want to trash my auto gearbox with the lack of ignition retard on gear changes, so didnt go ahead and did the remap instead

240rwkw from the remap + GT3076

:)

better driveability with the auto than power-fc.

difference is I cant drop in injectors without doing a complete fresh remap

Brendan you say the PFC idled fine but did you actually drive it? I have doubts that on an S1 it would even change gear let alone pull timing on changes.

I hadnt done the "secret squirrel" trick - had the bits right there, but wasnt game to DIY

was awaiting to get the setup to the tuners, then at last minute convinced myself that while a) it was going to work after some wiring tricks, b) it wasnt worth it due to undoubtedly the auto seeing early death.

had an offer to sell the P-fc, and before I knew it had the Toshi remap setup instead

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
