nope the only legal turbo is the one nissan put on there from the factory. can't even be a turbo with the same size wheels, it has to be the factory turbo. not to say there may not be people running illegal turbs of course

Its a petty no body checks the Vspec for ceramic wheels. It's a bit of a joke that CAMs develops such lengthy rules then no body really enforces them and "some" orgainisers choose to look the other way with respect to "some" cars.

very true brian. I chose not to take a chance on anything because it was a long walk home if I got caught.....but only saftey was checked not eligibility (except for "rear wing-gate" and that was a bit of a farce)

3x 32 gtrs parked in a row first night. Scruitineer came over and told Mark and I our (standard) rear wings were illegal as the other car had the correct "n1 rear wing"

about 2 hours later they finally contacted the driver of the other car who admitted his was aftermarket

hmmm let me guess, the other GTR was the white one with the R33 wing?

The scruteneers were easy as on us. They were looking round the car and I said

"this is Steve Glenny's old car, and it was Warrick Freemantles before that"

"ahhh this is Warricks old car, it'll be fine"

they did a quick look under the bonnet ticked the boxes and left.

same check on our car, safety was checked properly like at a race meet (and glad they do). the pre targa check done at SAS automotive was more thorough but of course people could change things after that check easily. and I'm not sure that all cars go through that?

considering the number of gtrs the scruitineers should have a slightly better idea of things to check, eg injectors, afm, exhaust size and turbo external markings would be quick and catch 80% of things that matter. turbo of course is tricky considering what you can do with high flow standard units (better than the n1s for a 32 I think)

well i might still run the tein's but have them changed by Stu to suit Tarmac. would love to put a set of DMS or Ohlin's under it but can't find any second hand ones for sale. im pretty sure it all has to be stock in my catigory. can anybody clarify that? it's a R33 Gts-t.

How would they check for standards that have been highflowed apart from removing the turbo's?

I was reading in a rally magazine that Cams can put apart your turbo/s and measure them. Im trying to find the picture i had of the special tie's that FIA used to prevent Turbos from being internally modified. it's almost like a smaller version of a cable tie wit ha serial number stamped on it.

Hi Ben

It's doubtful that I will run, time and other priorities.

Besides I couldn't break my cycle 99,01,03,05,07!

I think finally some competitors ideas are getting through and the new course would be great, just a pity it's not overnighting in Burnie.

Goodness knows how everyone will get a bed on the West Coast particularly with the mining boom and the tourists. Better book soon.

Yeah sflamin mongrelineering can be real interesting.

I am still trying to figure out why my 3rd placed GTR got so much attention at the finish of last years Targa when a certain second palce GTR didn't get a look at at all. I guess it's who you know. Even SB played scrutineer and decided to check my car out under the bonnet with his mobile phone!

I was told that he was doing a comparison but where is the sense in looking at Tony's R32 and my R33 and not looking at my R33 and the second place R33 as I suggetsed to them at the time, but they did not want to do that.

Then when I came back down from the ceremony the "real" scrutineers where at it and every orifice was opened up again.

Welll all that was said at the end of it was that the door linings needed to have fluffy stuff stuck to them for the new rules so in one way it was good to show that the car is legit as some people feel thay have to tell everyone it's not.

Certainly there is a lot that could be checked on the cars. Instead of the minor stuff why not go for the real mods that have a major affect on performance. You can't tell me cars with 18' and 19" wheels are running std diff ratios. GTRs are overgeared to start with.

Oh look now youve got me started again, better shut up or I'll upset some one.

Are you guys going to do Rally Tas?

I think this and rally of Burnie will really take off now LWR has hold of it.

Have you got your car fixed up Duncan, that was sad in Fernglade last year. If your gunna do it again let me know so can go and watch!

To everyone that has a go good luck, if you need help up Burine way let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Cheers Brian.

this is what we do with engines in production cars. they get measured up by an independant builder and then the head and sump are sealed. If you take either off it has to be measured and sealed again.

    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is may e 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Dose anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
