I'm assuming if you're doing 170 for reps then it's not really close to your max effort. Maybe that was his point?

Either way, people need to learn to stfu and pull their heads in.

Max effort need not be a 1RM, my friend. It can be the last rep in a set. It can be the last set of an exercise where you are already fatigued to the shit.

I reckon it is. Minor things annoy me but rarely will a gym be perfect for what you want and by the sounds of it I have things better than most.

For the first time lastnight, I had someone approach me about my deadlift form. He's a membership consultant there and he approached me saying "I...I gotta say something man", shaking his head a bit. I said "What?". He says "You're going to end up injuring yourself, your back is arching when you deadlift." I was doing 170kg for reps, so I explained to him that when you're pushing close to your max effort, form will never be perfect. He says "So you don't think form is important?". I reply "No, don't put words in my mouth; form is very important, but if your form is absolutely 100% when lifting with maximum exertion, it likely is not your max effort. I've never had an injury from deadlifts and I could show you an 82kg lifter who can pull 290kg without injury and his form won't be "perfect". I appreciate your concern, but I disagree with your logic". He said "Alright, I'll leave it be, but..." and laughed to himself.

Next minute he's doing some cable exercise and I hear him complaining to his training partner about his back hurting..,wtf? Should have told him to lift the 170kg I doubt he could have even done one of them lol

haha was at the gym yesterday with John and he took out his headphones only to hear the dude talking shit about this same story still :\

on the cables with his mate standing around brah :P

he does have a decent physique at least, better than being told off by one of the skinny kent PTs

at least the guy was showing concern for your safety instead of just potentially letting yourself get into snap city i guess.

Yes which is why I'm always polite if I disagree with advice. Have had people tell me I'm lifting too heavy on lat pulldown etc. It's tough not to assume they're saying it because they lift significantly less and it's their way of dealing with the dissonance that someone smaller than them can lift more. So I usually give benefit of the doubt.

Haha true. His physique isn't that good, he's just 5 ft tall and looks wider than he is. Dude can't bench more than 3 of his own bodyweight, which is one of the reasons I didn't listen to him.

Another is that I've seen him rock up to the gym on a motorbike wearing no safety gear, save for a helmet. And Jon overheard him saying he doesn't deadlift because a motorbike accident prevents him from doing so. Obviously knows how to take care of a back.

So it's quite clear this guy suffers from extreme ignorance lol

So my friend at the gym got told off straight away tonight for using too many plates on the leg press...

He's thinking of driving to Perth (4 hrs there and back) every night to go to Musclepit.

However there's a guy in our town who is looking at starting a powerlifting gym, and this guy wants to go there obviously. I was asked tonight if Id be interested in joining once it's up and running.

F*** a four hour trip each night. I'd buy weights to use at home.

What. The. f**k

im expecting this in the next month or so

6 plates off being able to use all the 20kg plates.....

How many plates is this? lol

If there's one thing I HATE about leg press, it's having to load 16+ 20kg plates onto the f**ker, then back off again when I'm done. Use more energy just setting it up than doing the movement!! haha

Haha I'm up to 4 20kg plates on each side...

The guys usually help me put them away though ha

That's more than I see most guys doing  lol

Yeah I've only just got back into doing squats again since ditching them at the beginning of the year or thereabouts. Much more effective, and as you said saves a lot of time loading plates lol

Yeah I do squats and leg press. It's annoying when I fail on squats though because I have to take all the plates off and then back on :/

Leg press is the worst. They should just make one with some sort of quick change pin setup and have a decent amount of weight on it. I used to load 36 20kg plates on and off , at least that gym had plenty of plates and didn't care.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
