markos
Do we need to start a powerlifting only thread? I understand that lots of people in the gym dont give a rats about strength, but if there are enough that want to know about powerlifting, training, comps, gyms in each state etc, we'll do it For those that dont know I am the President of GPC Australia (Global Powerlifting Comittee) I also own the only professional powerlifting Fed ever in Oz, ProRawPowerlifting. We gave away $13,000 in 2011 I also started PTC (Performance Training Centre) in Frankston. We now have a PTC in Brisbane, Perth, Sydney with Adelaide opening up around Christmas. They are all strength based gyms, all involved in powerlifting Let me know your thoughts Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/181/#findComment-6495238 Share on other sites
Trozzle
If any of you guys feel like helping out some of the NSW peeps that would be great. They have just started a thread for all of them to get healthy. Seems to be a lack of good info other then exercise. Drop in and give some tips if you have some free time http://www.skylinesa...80#entry6495190 ***Edit*** Just noticed most of you arent NSW members so it wont let you in gay Google 'definitive guide to fat loss and body recomposition' then find Markos' PTC newsletter. Link them that. Even though is not write their aim (since it's from a weight lifter's perspective really, and focuses on muscle retention) it's definitely what they need to see. Would be keen for you to share your knowledge in there as I'm a PT, but I would like to study more strength and conditioning type work (I'd like to work with athletes eventually) so powerlifting-specific training interests me. You should open a PTC in Canberra Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/181/#findComment-6497113 Share on other sites

TM7GTR
That's awesome news Markos. Without a doubt it would skyrocket the popularity of powerlifting here in Canberra. NickR33
Been doing a new training routine, I am a big boy so open to criticism I like it (extra points for the powercleans, jump squats and clap push ups... I love that stuff!)... no overhead or specific shoulder work in there though? Mitcho_7
That's awesome news Markos. Without a doubt it would skyrocket the popularity of powerlifting here in Canberra. The only gym I have been to that has a decent setup for that sort of stuff is the actas gym in lyneham. I'd get into it a bit more if the facilities were available and it wasn't twice as expensive as other gyms! markos
Elite Physique is hands down the best PL gym in Canberra, and it has quite a few elite powerlifters training there They are in the process of buying more specialist bars, they already have a monolift and a platform Katie Foster trains there, she deadlifted 182.5kg@75kg at the Nats The owner, Billy, is possibly Australias best deadlifter, trained at Westside in Columbus, Ohio Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/181/#findComment-6498562 Share on other sites

Seems just that touch too close to 'franchise' gyms which is also understandably hard to avoid. I almost (jokingly) convinced Billy to swap me his ZR1 for my R33 at the traffic lights one time. That car is amazing....and struck me as a REALLY awesomely nice guy too, wasn't egotistic at all and very friendly. Definite +respect for Elite. Mitcho_7
Pretty happy with my chest/tri session today! Got out 4 sets (8,8,7,6) of the 37.5kg dumbells on incline bench and then the same on flat bench straight after. May not be big for some, but I'm stoked on it! Followed that up with cable flyes, weighted dips, cgbp and skull crushers. Bring on the doms! Thanks Nick, that's a good point, what do you reckon ? there are a few exercises that hit the shoulders in there as a secondary sort of thing. Manuel Kasko
So one of my closest friends is currently in hospital undergoing all these different scans etc. Yesterday after doing his stupid style of training he finished and passed out now he can hardly speak and has developed a crazy stutter that makes it pretty much impossible for him to speak. He was doing a stupid leg thing where he presses his shoulder against a pole and holds onto it while lifting his legs in the air. So he looks like a plank. He calls it calisthenics. The guy he does it with has no clue how it could have happened but both of them are amateurs and have no clue about where nerves are or correct style etc Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/181/#findComment-6500024 Share on other sites

Manuel Kasko
I been telling him it's a stupid thing and he should just go to the gym. But he thought he was pro at it.
