Kaz200
Hey guys, can someone please recommend a REALLY GOOD chinese restaurant in the city.. I have some family coming down from Sydney on the weekend, and so far I've only been to yummy Japanese places really We are really picky/critical about food (and service!) so I hate just taking a guess as to where to go, and then regretting it All help appreciated Please let me know why you think a particular restaurant is good too.. Thanks, Kaz Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/201040-need-a-restaurant-recommendation-pls/ Share on other sites

The STiG
I would suggest just going to ChinaTown in the City. Seriously 99.9% of the restaurants along there are TOP NOTCH and you really cant go wrong. Pick and chose at will. BOL with the family coming down. Ada///M. Thanks, Kaz The Red Emperor at Southbank is the best Chinese restaurant ive ever been to (and i love my Chinese) It has been awarded 2 hats..yes not one but 2 hats. That sort of reputation speaks for itself. The service we recieved was second to none (we had the matre'd look after us as we ordered a fairly expensive bottle of wine before dinner). MissJuz
My recommendations: Flower Drum - City. Awesome food & Serive, expensive, book early or you may not be able to get a seat. Silks - City. Awesome food & Service, expensive. David's - Prahran. Great food & service (not quite as good as the other two), reasonably priced. Do-Luck
Thought about Williamstown at all? I know it's NOT the city but one of my favourite Chinese restaurants is there. It's called Lion Dance. stasis
ok. what kind of chinese food are you actually thing of? Like a casual type with like lemon chicken ETC , those type of dished that are tailored to weterners or a typuical chines food? you like mainly beef , chicken, fish? Formal type or real bustling type or doesnt matter? Cheap eats or moderate or expensive? Hmm but my suggestion is the Shark Fin Inn. On lt bourke. chinatown nearer to the spring st ones not the one close to chinatown. Dinner or "yum cha"? Tehy food i think its good and very resonable price. Probably a good dinner A$20/head. saff_cossie
There is a newish one in Church St, Brighton called Humble House. It does an assortment of Asian cuisine including Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese etc. Very good food. Kaz200
Thanks for all the feedback Appreciate the effort thanks I don't go for that new gourmet aussie chinese food like at Flower Drum though I imagine if you did it would be a great place to go. Want more like a 50 item menu etc with traditional aussie chinese like mongolian beef, chicken cashew, honey prawns and the like Moderate to expensive.. parents are buying hehe Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/201040-need-a-restaurant-recommendation-pls/#findComment-3577546 Share on other sites

stasis
oh cantonese is a better way to describe it Well you should have said it ealier. Easy as . Ahark fin Inn is the go then. Remember to go the one nearer to the spring st not the one nearer to chinatown. Make sure you book in advance. Ask for Angus or Kelvin. Tell them his god younger bro sent you and he will look after you. Hmnm you can bring in some wines too!! BYOs. Seafood is good. Its good few fishes like Mor wong, sek pan which are bothe ecxpensive. Then theres barramundis, murray cod( cheaper). I like them steamed in soya sauce and spring onions and cilantro. Theres pekind duck too. hmm fried spare ribs which is noice. Hmm care for any oily stuff? They will look after you anyway and ask them to recommend. Hmm probably you should make a call and make a reservation a few days in advance . hope this helps.
