Awesome news.

There will actually be some real market forces involved in 2nd hand r35 GTR's in years to come, instead of being dictated by the )probably small) number Nissan will bring in.

There is probably only going to be small numbers brought in by Nissan now as everyone is going to know that since these can be brought in from Japan the value of these cars are going to die in the ass much like the R32 GT-R so your investment losses are going to be huge. Which means only the real die hards will buy them now.

In many ways I personally find that disappointing.

It's kinda of a double edged sword.

If you can get the "grey" import cheaper than your intial investment is less, however if they were only sold by Nissan then the prestige and mystique would hang around much longer and in turn, as you said, keep the value up.

For most people grey imports is the better bet as it means once they drop in price they would be accessible to more people.

I had heard on the rumour mill that Herman from Envy Imports was importing them and doing the SEVS compliance. Being local to him is nice, might pop down once he has an R35 in stock and have a geez :D

At least the rumour is confirmed. Time to start saving. Hah

So many variables here, hard to say. We calculate it at about that (actually $125k) if valuing 8 mil FOB and 4k for compliance. Who knows, really, cause no one has compliance yet. Also, who knows what the exchange rate will be in 2009.

Basically, if Nissan brings them in full volume (before 18 months expiry date) no one else can. And until Nissan releases what their intentions are, everyone else's hands are tied.

according to geoff at prestigemotorsport, new example will be around the $120k complied, while second hand example will be around the $100k complied.

i was under the impression that any current compliance plate would only be for the new model, or under 10 000 kms..

any only be good for models up to the date nissan brings them in... much like the s15

Sure, but Nissan hasn't brought them in yet full volume, so it depends on what they do.

So people know with New Car under SEVS is under 300 klm's only to be deemed new and in the US they are getting $20,000 US over list when placing an order.

You will not get one from the auctions under 9,500,000 Yen FOB and people quoting 7,700,000 becoming 8,200,000 FOB it is way off and actually a joke.

agreed! I have bought a couple and it's not easy, or cheap. very limited supply from nissan and lots of hassle for exporters to buy one new (compared to just buying any old car at auction) means anyone would be mad to do a regular FOB as the number they can buy is very, very limited.

tell me about it. and of course if you are buying a new car from nissan they have been instructed NOT to sell to exporters. so they wont like it if you order more than one, which is hard enough anyway as you need a parking spot for it, and if you don't have enough in your house you'll need to rent one, within a certain radius of your house, and it has to be big enough to fit the car and the police will check this to make sure you are legit. all big hurdles and all add time/cost.

been watching the R35's at the auctions in the last few weeks and the ludicrous prices being demanded for them have dropped to market value of about 8 million yen to 9 million yen. That said, that's just the auction price... FOB would be a lot more.

Yes by the time we will be able to import them the market price will be around 6mill the depreciation is huge on new cars in Japan, so another reason to wait.

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.

Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
