Hiya everyone,

Been reading over this site for the last week and have found heaps of useful information. I've 1/2 purchased a 1998 series 2 with the works and 72k on it, but the car had only just arrived (not complied yet) and according to the dealer had suffered some front spoiler damage. He assured me that it would all be fixed up and detailed etc, so I'm hoping it all works out ok for me....

The sale is subject to an racv test, but it all sounded and looked good (apart from missing its mouth). But, I'm a little confused with the VIN number, and from the wiki site, it says its a non turbo based on the last number ranges, unless I'm reading it all wrong? The vin number is WGNC34-122152 so if anybody could FAST that number for me it would be greatly appreaciated, and hopefully I'll get to catch up with some of you stagea owners around Melbourne. Oh, and for those interested, you can fit a wheelchair in through the drivers door (my main pre-requisate in a car)!!

Cheers,

Jeff

Thanks heaps for that chook :D Yeah, from what I saw, it had the works. But, hang on, didnt the series 2 start in november 98? Does that make it a series 1?? (as you see im still a stagea noob). :(

Cheers,

Jeff

ps. Is there any way to check what the engine number should be?

Hi, Mine is a 10/98 Series 2 as well (thanks *Chook* for the fast).

Very similar options to yours except for the navi system and the dual sunroof.

If it's a genuine S2, it will have the tiptronic gear change buttons on the steering wheel, white face gauges, the "Neo" engine written on the engine cover (same motor as the R34 GTT Skyline), etc and if its a "V" model should have the tweeter speakers in the A pillars near the edge of the front widscreen and a few other things....

I think they started manufacturing the Series 2 around Sept/Oct in 1998. Have seen plenty more late 98 Series 2's on offer as well.

How do you get so much info out of FAST?? I can only find the first paragraph... everything under "options" is missing from the main screen as far as I can tell... can you show me where I go to get to that info'? :D

A big thanks for all the speed and replies. What I'd read about the series 2 start date was obviously wrong, so thanks for clearing that up for me.

I couldn't help myself and decided to grab a copy of FAST software as well. But, I have the same question as DaveB, how do you find out what all the options are? I'm just getting a basic screen...???

Cheers,

Jeff

Click on the OP button on the top right once you have input your VIN. This will list the options, although some cars had none.

Ive found that around 1998 they changed from descibing options in japanese to english. So you also need to change the FONT from the setup menu to be able to display the Japanese, I use "Kozuka Gothic Pro R" which works, but others may as well. then of course you will need someone to read the japanese, which my wife does. simple !

Might need to install Japanese language pack from microsoft to get the japanese fonts.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, thanks heaps again chook, I had tried the OP button, thinking it was that, but on seeing the bunch of japanese characters I was like "thats really as much use to me as speedos for polar bears". Well, hopefully should the RACV test all go well, I'll have some pics up within a few weeks. I was pretty stoked when I saw the minidisc in the radio when I was checking out the car, I've got a bunch of them at home which I used to use for my minidisc multitracker mixing/recording desk. I knew if I hung onto them long enough I'd find a use again! :D

I'd also like to apologise for starting a topic asking for a FAST request, I had seen a few and figured that was how its done, later finding the huge thread already existing for fast requests, so apologies to the mods etc.

Cheers,

Jeff

    • Version 1 aluminium airbox is.......not acceptable No pics as I "didn't like the look.....alot" Even after all my "CAD", and measurements, the leg near the fusebox just didn't sit right as it ended up about 10mm long and made the angle of the dangle look wrong, the height was a little short as well, meh, I wasn't that confident that Version 1 was going to be an instant winner I might give Version 2 another go, there's plenty of aluminium at work, but, after having in on and off a few times, and laying in the old OEM airbox without the new pod filter and MAF, there may be an option to modify the OEM air box and still use the Autoexe front cover and filter.... maybe This >  Needs to fit in here, but using the panel, and not the pod, the MAF will need to fit in the airbox though> I'm thinking as the old OEM box and Autoexe cover that is sitting in the shed is just sitting around doing nothing, and they are relatively abundant and cheap to replace if I mess it up and need another, it may well fit with some modifications to how the Autoexe brackets mounts to the rad support, and some dremiling to move it get in there, should give me some more room for activities, as I don't want to move the MAF and affect the tune Sealing the hole it requires to stick it in the air box is simple, a tight fit and some pinch weld will seal it up tight  I am calling this a later problem though
    • and it ends up being already priced in as though you're just on 91RON without any ethanol. Car will lose a bit of economy as the short and long term fuel trims bring down the AFR back to stoich or whatever it is for cruise/idle for the engine.
    • Oh, you are right. But, in Australia E10 is based on 91RON fuel and ends up being 94RON. Hence it being the cheaper option for economy cars. The more performance oriented cars go for the 98RON fuel that has no ethanol mixed in. The only step up we have left then at some petrol stations is E85.
    • There is a warning that "this thread is super old" but they ignore that anyway...
    • With 10% Ethanol, we're talking 2-3% fuel consumption difference. The emissions reductions and octane boost in my opinion far outweigh this almost non existent loss.    My tanks sitting at 80%. Luckily that should go down fast as I'm on vacation again for the next two weeks.
