The reason I chose the trust kit that uses the stock pipes was for ease of install and I didnt want to go to the expense of the greddy plenum, as I've seen a couple of high end rb25det still using the stock plenum. I think the greddy plenum gives little gain for the dollars spent, around $1000 to buy I think.

summoner, Hills in SA make a nice one for around $800 with tuned bellmouths etc. Any negative effects with the stock turbo really depend on the chamber volume. The bigger the volume to fill, the longer it'll take for the stock turbo to pressurise it and the worse response will be.

I heard from one source that the rough rule of thumb for ideal plenum volume is 1.5 x engine capacity for a circuit car. The 5L+ drag style plenums far over shoot that mark, and the factory RB25 ones are a tad small at 2.77L. We need something inbetween (~3.5L for a RB25).

greddy plenums are between $1500-$2500 fitted i think i can't remember exactly

series II gtst:- you wouldn't have to worry bout police inspections, coz intercooler aren't illegal so their ain't really such a big deal in not using stock piping :P and also if you did wanna get the car back to stock you would change the intercooler would ya? you'd wanna sell it with the intercooler right?

bOO5t, I was thinking of getting that Trust kit through Taka's as suggested earlier in this thread. The one with end tanks 32 and 33 or whatever it was. However, cost of rebuild is gonna wipe out my intercooler funds.

I wonder if anyway is interested in a group buy further down the line?

Guys i'm not sure how well you have looked into this stuff but i have done some extensive testing ON ROAD. I have the cooler that plumbs back to the standard piping and you'll find that you loose a heap of bottom end punch from 2700rpm to 5000rpm and will only gain HP in 4 gear between 160 and 190 kph. So unless you are using the car on a duno all the time, are installing bigger turbo and or computer a front mount is only good for the wank facter! Testing done on an R33 and SR20 180SX.

Roy13. How can you substantiate this? Everyone that has ever bolted on a cooler of decent sizes (read 600x300x67) that is a half decent core, has gained ample horsepower. How big was the cooler you were testing with? If it was thicker than about 80cm then you're probably right due to the area the air has to cover inside the cooler. If I read this right, are you saying that by making the air do a 180 degree bend at one end, you are cutting masses of power out. Piping is approx the same length for both types of coolers (standard vs aftermarket piping), if size is the same, then true, the standard piping would be slightly more restrictive due to the 180 but I can't say that'd it'd only be making power over 160km/h. Plus, with a decent tune (if you look at my specs anyway, I have an SAFCII) i'm sure there will be bulk horsepower as that is what everyone else has found.

As I haven't road tested myself, I'm not saying you're wrong but i'm saying, yes, I have done a lot of reading and there does not seem to be any negliable effects of fitting an FMIC as long as it's correctly sized.

Ok to try and make my comments more useful i am using a 450x300x76 with std pip diameter approx 61mm running 10.5 psi with both coolers manual R33. I am making my comparason to several roll on drags with a 187 rwkw auto LS1, on the same stretch of road.

My piping doesn't make a 180 deg turn as i have it running up into the hollow of the quarter gard in front of the wheel to make a smooth turn around.

From 50kph in 2nd with the std cooler i can lurch forwood harder he pulls away a little in 3rd he pulls half a car between us then in 4th i can only retain the same gap till the speed cut!

From 50kph in 2nd with the aftermarket he instantly pulls away harder then in 3rd he can still pull half a car between us but once in 4th after about half a second boost builds up and i can go from 1/2 a car behind to my tail inline with his nose then the speed cut hits and he smokes me.

I have been driving with the std cooler for a while now due to the extra towyness around 2700rpm.

I'm planning to use bolt on replacement turbo to miminise custom fabrication and tedious installation. Car is daily driver so wont go something like aftermarket plenum as around 200rwkw is what i'm only after. So with this in mind, I'd suppose this type of fmic with stock cooler piping is sufficient for me?

Excuse me for bringing this thread alive again.... but I found that for similar

price you can get ARC M073 series intercooler that uses std piping, very stealth.

Area size is slightly larger than the size above, but a bit thinner.

No plans for me to get a fwd facing plenum, and only planning to run around 1 Bar of boost.

i think you still need to chop it the inside of bar, so that there is clearance to fit the fmic. it's alot easier just chopping the 'fins' off then cutting into it alittle bit to shave some of it off. You could just use mesh to hide it it if you wish. Also covering up the fmic would make it less exposed to the air, which really defies the purpose of the front mount, which is to maximise the exposure to cold air.

How many % of less air would yield in noticeable performance loss on the street anyway?? I don't think it's such an issue whether putting a mess to hide it or not. air will still get through, unless u wanna run 36psi at constant race pace maybe it will make a huge different...

Has anyone dyno proven their FMIC with wire mess in front of it and without?

    • Hey crew, Failed my WOF cause of a lower control arm, and I've decided to hit both arms, and also the compression rods at the same time(seems they're gonna be the most likely upcoming failure points from some discussions with the lads over on the G35 reddit). I basically got told "Lol dunno". Specifically they aren't aware of any difference but can't guarantee fitment as they haven't done it on a 350GT. So guess I'm asking is if there is any issues with using 2005 G35 coupe suspension parts on a 2005 350GT coupe? Orginally I thought it could be something in the way of the arms that each control arm is designed to be positioned around, but that'd be an engineering nightmare for Nissan needing two different shaped control arms 😅
    • ^ This. The mode door actuator is a common failure, as is the actuator and/or the actual valve for the coolant flow control valve. I also don't know how available the mode door actuator is these days. I've been meaning to look into it and get one from wherever is possible, to keep in the shed for the rainy day when mine eventually fails. Anyway, the advice to you is to search the usual NOS part supply places, or even just go to Nissan and see what they list.
    • Have you got a pic of the actuator? My guess is that unit has failed internally and was flopping around, so the previous engineer who owned it forced it to be fully open to cold air (blocking the heater core path). As far as you can tell, is anything else wrong in the system? Likely you just need a new actuator (not sure how available they are) and then "installation is the reverse of disassembly"
    • I'm happy with the Lsailt unit that I put in, it puts full Android on the top screen so you can run whatever Nav and other Apps you want, while still existing inside the factory functionality like automatic reverse cams, audio input switching, retains factory bluetooth etc. Not cheap and the install was moderate (not simple, not hard) Yours is a V36 not V37 though right?
    • Yeap, all the NC's that I originally looked at that had a hard top were PRHT, which makes the roof line look horrible, hence why I said nope to them My only caveat for another MX5 was it needed to have a hard top, and initially I didn't think you could get a detachable hard top for the NC,  like my NB had Again, a big thanks to Matty for helping me source the detachable hard top for my little girl, they are as rare as hens teeth in Australia, and the few people who have them, keep them Also to Greg, for initially pointing me in the NC direction NC PRHT 🤢🤮 Not mine (I really should take more photos of my car), but a NC with the detachable hard top 😁 To me, the difference in how the detachable hard top roof line looks, and how it actually follows the bodies lines, like they do on NA's and NB's, is chalk and cheese compared to the bulbous looking PRHT
