My Filtermag arrived today from the USA, probably not really worth posting about, but since I wasnt able to find one in Australia I figured I would anyway. The concept is that your oil filter cannot phyically filter out all of the metal shavings produced as part of engine operation. If it could, the filter would have to be so fine that Oil itself couldn't pass through. Instead, the fine iron particles are attracted to the the magnet and removed from the oil circulating through your engine. I tested it on a spare oil filters in the garage and damn it's a powerful mofo! once that b1tch is on it won't come off too easily!

Has anyone else tried them out? Comments?? etc?

So this goes AROUND the outside of the line or something, still leaving the metal in there, just collecting enough of it together, that when you finally take it off, you have a ball bearing of metal ready to be sent through your engine? Or if you leave it on, you have a clog...

Is this correct?

Cause if it is, it sounds like fun :(

I'm guessing it would accumilate in the filter, then when u change filter take it off and turf the shrapnel with it, then put it over the new filter.

Haha well I bought it specifically for whilst running in my new motor, I also have a magnetic sump plug, the g/f's dad has one one of the plugs his Gen III which picks up alot of cr@p too.

If I remember correctly the website has alot of pics of filter's cut in half... take them as you will, no doubt they only posted pics with the largest build up of fine iron, but in all honesty I can't see how it wouldn't work, since the dirty oil passes through the outside of the filter past the magnet before being pulled through the filter core. I've also heard that the A'PEXi UFO filters use a magnet aswell. The benefit of this one is that you can swap ot over to your new filter with every oil change.

not a bad idea on a new engine since everything is wearing in but i see it doing close to nothing on a engine that was already "run in".

If your engine was turning around metal that is able to be picked up by a magnetic, you have more things to worry about than oil filtration.

SnakOil my ace, ppl run magnetic sump plugs for the same reason. Here you have much more powerful rare earth magnets (i would assume) right where the oil is already turbulent and full 'o' eddys.

Check the site, theres something being picked up by the magnet thats gettn by the filter.

These are absolute gold, one of those "cant believe i didn't think about that" ideas thats cheap as a blowjob. CRD and some other shops incidentally have been running them on thier cars for a while.

GReddy also make an Oil Filter that has a magnet built in. I have been using these for quite a while, however as far as I'm aware they are being discontinued so this might be the next step for me.

    • The real question is, on some of those wild roads they call highways, how many times did a farmer in an old ute from the early 2000s blaze past you over double lines?   Tassie is a wild and really cool place, and after doing a work related road trip there January of 24, I understand why Targa Tasmania is ran there, and is so tough to do well at! We had a brand new Camry Hybrid that handled quite nicely, and thankfully weren't in an old car, because cresting some of those hills in a 100kmh zone for it to suddenly be like "surprise f**kers, this is a recommended 30kmh hard right turn" wouldn't be pretty. We weren't racing the Camry around, but we weren't slouching in the bends either. But my lord those old farmers know their old clapped out utes, and those roads, as they were absolutely hammering it!   You're also super lucky to make it up to Mt Wellingtong this time of year. It's often road closed with snow/ice! Also, I hope you hit up Salamander Road in Hobart for some insanely good food (I highly recommend the dimly lit Irish pub for a Guiness Pie, or even the bangers and mash!!!)   How long did the Ferry take to get across? I want to do a road trip of Tas on my own time, but I get horrifically sea sick, and I don't want me on the Ferry, just the car 😛

    • Hmm not really, I'd say its race car life or modified car life when you make 3 or 4 times the power Nissan designed the car for lol. 
    • I'll let others with more breakage chime in, but I can't think of anyone who had a problem with the standard centre plate before they had a problem with the standard gears - the plate generally just gets replaced for safety when the gearset is upgraded. As for the gearsets, its not like they are OK at 600Nm and break at 601. Their longevity is a combination of how much torque you are making and how gentle you are on shifts (or not).
