Hey all. I was thinking of getting new car alarm installed, just wanted to see what experiences you guys have had with different car alarm systems. Any particular one that is one notch above the rest? Or is any with a siren and immobiliser enough? Cheers.

most insurance companies require you to have an Australian standards immobolizer fitted with a skyline.

funny enough.. a lot of the expensive brand named alarms and immobs arent covered by Australian Standards.

i settled for just a Worlock 3 point immob (no gay alarm that goes off with loud cars drive past) on mine. 300 all up including install from JB. back wires and cover my Just Car insurance needs.

if your not over fussy and dont have like a 20g stereo or valubles in your car constantly id just settle for a basic requiement system.

good luck

mongoose m80au

3 point+ black wiring, insurance approved and works with turbo timers.

I have the same one on my GTR, works with the central locking easily, has Pager attachment, plus 3 point immobilzer ignition, line, cutoff

Where can I cop one of these mongoose systems?

Just interested to see if any attempted break-ins were actually foiled by a mongoose alarm?

They dont seem to have the same model as I do on their site anymore, but then again my car alarm is around 3-4 years old now.

Ring up and find out - details are in the members section.

Alarms are much of a muchness if you ask me.

You can spend $800 or $250 on the alarm, its the way its installed that will dictate how hard the car is to steal

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
