We import race only cars for people reasonably often so we can certainly help you too ... please email me at [email protected] with details of what you are after so I can see what's around for you now. Also please confirm that you have a level 3 CAMS licence (national level) and can provide some evidence of recent motorsport activity in order to satisfy the DOTARS requirements for getting an import approval - if you don't meet the requirements then you need to find someone else who can import the car for you or look at getting a 1988 or older vehicle.

thinking of importing a s13, s14 or r32 skyline for track use only.

where/who are the ppl to ask who can bring a car over and give definate prices.

so if you know anyone or you do it yourself, please let me know.

thanks

Why not look for a car that is available locally? You get the huge benefit of being able to see the thing yourself, know that it is log booked (If required), comliant to all of CAMS nonsense (If required) & best of all know what lap times it is capable of at a local circuit.

Just about every race car I have ever seen is "for sale" - mostly because the drivers always have an eye on their next prospective purchase...

jspec. i threw cams a question regarding C3 cams license's and drift car importaton. and they said that if the car is being used for drifting then the importers are wrong. he said that L2S license's are all thats required to import a drift car. because drifters are competing under the L2S license.

how true is this statement.

i will pm u just incase u dont read this.

that's all well and good, but it's not up to CAMS, it's up to DOTARS. they issue the VIA. so I would be asking them as what they tell you is the only answer that matters.

i will ask them no harm done there.

if they need a C3 i import through someone who has a C3 and take it off their hands after it arrives in australia, and goes thru its stuff.

obviously it would have to be retransfered into my name.

CAMS will advise you of what licence is required to drive a car in a certain class not what is required to import that car ... DOTARS are the ones who issue import approvals and they demand a level 3 licence for any motorsport import because it's not simple to get this level licence like it is to get a level 2, and that serves their purpose well to ensure that you are serious and active in motorsport.

Call DOTARS on 1800 815 272 and ask them, and by all means if someone tells you that you can import a drift car with only a level 2 licence then make sure you get it in writing too!

Not to throw a spanner in the works, but I have first hand knowledge of a car that recieved import approval for race use with NO CAMS licence at all. Car is now in Australia and under-going upgrades to run in AASA sanctioned events at QR and later at Lakeside.

Obviously there are some exceptions in certain cases because it's up to DOTARS who they approve in the end, however their official position is a level 3 licence so I would not expect anyone to be approved without that unless there was some very unusual circumstances and/or some mistake on the part of DOTARS. I didn't want to mention that there was even a small chance to get a race import without a level 3 licence because the chances are so slim that it's not even worth considering.

Before everyone starts saying that they should approve drift race imports without a level 3 licence because you don't need that to complete in drifting, I should advise that this arguement will not get you past DOTARS at all otherwise people would just import any car they choose and say it was for drifting. DOTARS will insist on a level 3 licence from everyone for any race import in 99.9% of cases.

True enough, but it "can" be done if you're keen enough.

No mistakes were made, however the time was taken to explain carefully and politely. Dealing with DOTARS is like dealing with the police. You give them attitude, you're screwed. Treat them politely, explain yourself carefully and validate your reasoning and they'll treat you the same.

But, don't EXPECT it to work. Sometimes people have a bad day at work and no amount of politeness can convince them you're worthy :D

Naturally J-Spec can't offer advice that isn't in the rules which is also why I haven't offered any more info then the fact that it has been achieved legally, through DOTARS without a L3 CAMS licence.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
