Just wondering about the different types of in-car camera mount designs people have used and had experiences with. I'm curious to see what mounting methods people have found to work best for in-car footage.

There's two main styles of camera mount I've seen: clamping style (clamp on to roll bar) or suction cup camera mount (manfrotto, chasecam, etc.)

Also interested in peoples AV setups, such as the type of equipment used, e.g. camcorders, bullet cams, external mics, video recording onto SD/flash, etc.

Post some pics if you can! :)

nice, adz one is pretty trick. I use this one:

http://www.rivergate5speed.com/vs_camera_mount.html

it's billet alluminium, very strong and works pretty well. it wouldn't pass for door to door racing, but I've never had a problem with scrutineering at any CAMS run supersprints i've attended with it.

www.stickypod.com - ive got a pro pak - have used it at a few DECAs and works well..(even on the outside/on roofs), use it for handycams, etc..

ive also just got one of those bullet cams, arrived today..

records directly to my 80GB archos media player... the camera itself weighs about 100g and is easy to attach to anything so should be good to test..next track day.

Ive always been suss of the ones that hold the camera on the outside of the car - have you had any issues with it Aaron?

Nah steve no issues, that said its only been used outside at deca/street etc...not at an actual track day..i doubt scruitineers would like it haha

If anything i'd use the little bullet cam for outside now. Yet to test..but eager to see how it goes..

depends what sort of camera you wanna mount too...

matt what you going to use? a handycam?

Well since your GTR is wounded at the minute, throw your mount in your bag for the GP. I want to try it at PI later this month, need to see if the angle and perspective in the cabon is right before buying one. My money is that unless i havea fancy camera it will be too close to the screen and all you will see is windscreen, no dash, gear changes or steering input ????

I was going to say that one... ...I've been looking at investing in a Stickypod setup... ...But using my CC on the net still feels doggy to me...

And I haven't found any good reviews that are not linked to the web site...

Hahaha!!!... ...Gold... ...That's how I'd hang lights in the Arts Centre when I'd ran out of clamps...

Its pretty good, bit on the large side..i reckon the smaller one would be better...expensive too..does the job for me though.

examples:

outside on scotts roof - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=VdXCvYNUZyU

outside on scotts door - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=r6YIGiVl9q8

outside on my rear quarter window - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=putvYexTtFQ

inside adz(max) rear window - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=rqwrgPg1ojg

ive used it for my DSLR as well.

on a panel..

Micra_2_by_aaronactive.jpg

then you can go bullet cams as well which are probably the way to go..bit on the pricey side...i'd just pick up a bulletcam kit on its own (inc mic, powersupply) and then use my DV camera to record...

Something like that would be sweet for me. What is a set up like that worth? Or is it cheaper to get a digi cam?

yeah no worried big fella. do you need the DV cam to go with it too? I don't need it atm. and in my 32 on the cage it's wide enough to see steering, and gear changes. :)

seriously think about switching to a DV cam mate. HDD cams and DVD cams are no good for track use. the constant vibration and knocks and bumps will destroy your camera HD. DV cam is the cheapest most reliable option for motorsport, unless you look at solid state memory like the SD of CF AV recorders (like the one trent posted) that take input from a small external camera.

    • Oh, also, forgot to add these photos I believe.
    • Thought i'd update on this. I was able to get in contact with Craig Lieberman and later on Darryl Alison (owner of Kaizo Industries). Darryl was able to help me verify that my car was in fact one of theirs and is helping me find more info on mine !
    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
