The ballast is a good idea for the spectators. It doesn't benefit the teams much, but i know i'd be bored watching a GTR 10 laps ahead for an entire race. Close competition gets bums on seats

Anyone remember the R32 GTR?

nah there is a limit i'm sure. but there doesn't really need to be one as it's constantly reviewed. so if you kept putting weight in the car and went too far, then you take some back out.

I still think it's strange, why not just use the weight/power ratio and stick to that. I'm sure it makes good racing having the faster car slowed down but then the fast cars earned its place by having better suspension or driver or aero package. Now with the extra weight they'll find other areas of development but then only to be slowed down again at the next round. Indeed puzzling, maybe it has seomthing to do with the budget of teams.

they used to do it in Group A too to try and achieve parity. sucess balast is probably the most comon way to get parity in classes where you have lots of different makes competing.

I think we should start a petition to Foxtel. This is a very exciting race series. Lets try to get every SAU forum user to sign. Maybe make it on the front (home) page. If everyone on here signs, surely this would convince Foxtel?

Then spread it to other forums, eg performance, highrollers etc. Lets use the power of the net to get action!!!!!!!!!!

Round 2

Friday Practice sessions put the NSX's in front and dominating the top positions. Historically the NSX's win Okayama. Xanavi GT-R turned 2nd best time even carrying the extra weight.

Qualifying tomorrow!

Qualifying

Qualifying session 1 times are in and GT-R's are brewing an upset and have nudged most of the NSX's out of the top spots.

GT-R's qualified 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Times and updates from afternoon after the session: http://www.gtrblog.com/index.php/2008/04/1...ce-quali?blog=4

Awesome qualifying result. To see a GTR and NSX neck and neck, that's great :D

I met a Malaysian man the other day and he told me to visit his country. I said i'd love to go to Sepang Circuit and see the race. He said it's a great idea, and not too expensive compared to other motoring events, but depending on the seating the cars can look tiny. He said they scream past once, then you wait, they pass again, you wait...etc etc.

I guess it's best to go with a group. Otherwise it could get boring in the stands :ninja:

Anyone been to a race? What's it like?

The race is due to start in half an hour and here are the grid positions. Of course we know the Xanavi/Nismo #23 GT-R is on pole from our update yesterday after the Super Lap qualifying session but here’s how the top 10 places fill out.

1. XANAVI/NISMO #23 GT-R

2. ARTA #1 NSX

3. CALSONIC/IMPUL #12 GT-R

4. YELLOWHAT YMS/TOMICA #3 GT-R

5. TAKATA #18 GT-R

6. MOTUL/AUTHECH #22 GT-R

7. RAYBRING #100 NSX

8. EPSON #32 NSX

9. REAL #17 NSX

10. PETRONAS TOM’S $36 SC430

The WOODONE/ADVAN Clarion #24 GT-R qualified in 14th place. Let’s hope their luck improves during the race to at least get past the Toyotas.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
