Hi guys

Not sure if this trend have been posted before and probaly a stupid questions.

But I just want to know what fuel you guys usually use with the Skyline and have you notice any differences in milage, power, idle etc.???

I have always pumped Shell Optimax as I though they have the highest octane and some cleaning agents in it. But I just found out in some other treds that some people also use BP Ultimate and Mobile fuel.

If it is the case I'm more happy to change to BP as it is right next to my place and is cheaper than Optimax.

Cheers

if you're ever anywhere near a place that sells evolution 98, try it out. i get measurably lower knock values on the pfc when compared to mobil and bp stuff. optiomax was worst of the bunch for me.

Optimax has reduced in quality the RON rating is variable servo to servo. The most consistant seems to be BP Ultimate and Mobil Syngery 8000 which are both 98RON.

sounds about right bro..

Basically i would recommend to type other fuels at least once. Some cars run better on certain types and some dont but Optimax is rated at a max of 98ron when brands like BP ultimate are rated at 98ron or more but in most cases they arnt much more than 98ron+. Alot of people have at alot of bad batches of optimax etc. My 2 cents.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I think i will make a switch to BP Ultimate. But doesn't all BP as Ultimate now instead of Premium Unleaded?? I'm only guessing because the Ultimate would replace the P.Unleaded, like Optimax replaced their P.Unleaded.

Cheers

I know this may upset some people but in my experience, I tried

Shell Optimax and it was the worse thing I could have done.

Quality changed from servo to servo, and in fact the car lost power. I am not sure if it is related but my Oxy sensor went bust and had to replace it. Read some guys had problems with Optimax and blew their Oxy sensors as well. Like I said, I am not sure it is related to Optimax. I swicthed to Ultimate and car runs smoother and stable fuel economy. I haven't tried anything else.

very intresting comments....i have been wondering for a long time what the superior fuel is....i have been using optimax since i bought the skyline, almost 2 years, not really had any had problems, however after reading the above comments i am eager to experiment with BP and perhaps Mobil.

its all the same LOL ... just try most of them out ... u will find that different cars will react differently to the petrol depending on the way its tuned ... i've tried lots of petrol in my car ... just about all i can think of .. even normal unleaded for half a tank to see how i went ... needless to say ... not good in terms of mileage and power ... the best for me is regular pulp .. bp that is ... probably the cleanest is bp out of all the brands from what i know ... low sulfer or whatever their advertising is ... but yeah i use that cause its 5cents cheaper and gives me more economy ... beats me why?? hehe .. i want to know how these engines will react to all this ethanol the government is trying to support for the poor sugar growing farmers ...

Prediction:Federal Government legislates that all regular fuel must have a small % of ethanol. Premium Fuels exempt , HOWEVER a new levy (read TAX) to be introduced to "offset negative revenue stream". (Because they know there will be little effective opposition. The fuel companies will go along with it and the media couldn't give a stuff)

[/cynicism]....:D

    • Am I correct in assuming that the R35's are getting the classic skyline haircut off the odometer?  Quick search on carsales, there are 33 08 and 09 GTR's for sale, only 2 of them have more then 100,000km's on them (116,075 and 110,000 respectively).  And somehow there are about 25 for sale with around 60,000kms? Looks like the classic skyline haircut to me =/
    • @Stringycheese  Have you only gone to the one blue slip workshop?  There will be a heap of them where ever you live, good odds that the next place you go to will pass the car.  Unfortunately (or fortunately?) every blue slip / engineering workshop will be different and will be happy passing or failing different things - despite working from the same set of rules. It's kinda like 2 lawyers arguing over a piece of legislation, each saying their interpretation is correct. Might seem strange that this happens when it comes to getting a modified car passed, but this is very much a thing. A big part of the game is finding an engineer / workshop that is on the same page as you.
    • Bah. I daily mine. ~60km per work day, 10-12 thousand km per year. What's the point of having a dirty old Datto and leaving it in the shed. It needs to be driven and enjoyed while the govco allows us to do so. It will only be a few years before we're forbidden to even start up internal combustion engines.
    • Judging by that spring perch and the normal looking spring on it - not a coilover. Well.... it is a coilover, just a stock format coilover, rather than what everyone calls a coilover.
    • Yes it is. We get stock from Nismo directly. I'm happy to take photos/video of it as proof before I ship it with timestamps or whathaveyou.
