Hey guys,

Not sure how to put this, but when i drove today the road was a bit wet but the rain has stopped. When i turn right, was not speeding or anything the car kinda fished tailed. I'm not sure what happend, but it scared me as i thought i lost control of the car. why did the rear wheels turn left when i turned right (i think that's what happend not sure). I drive r33 gtst

Any ideas?

it sounds like the HICAS was trying to counter your driving.

Earlier HICAS versions used hydraulics to steer the rear wheels. The hydraulic system was powered by the power steering pump and used speed sensors to determine how much and in which direction to steer the rear wheels. Later versions, called Super HICAS, moved to an electric actuator for the rear steering rack, making the system much lighter. The Super HICAS system also used its own computer to control the system instead of speed sensors. HICAS and Super HICAS rear wheel steering is limited to about 1 degree in either direction.

basicly when your driving, the HICAS is always trying to help you, but in most cases interferes, which sounds like wat has happened to u.

but then again you could have just been to hard on the throttle around a corner which = tail fishn....

I have HICAS in my car, you don't really notice it until you do lose the rear and the car reacts in a not so predictable way, however the usual cause is too much power in the corner or way too much speed entering a corner and then either trying to steer it out or brake in the corner (as I found on the track :D).

hmm, strange though my tyres are only 2 weeks old. and i didn't think that i was going around the conner fast. I looked at my speedo and was doing 10-20k or less. It didnt feel as if i was turning fast around the conner.

Could it be anything else? a fault maybe? don't want this to happen again.

What brand tyres are you using? Are they good quality or cheap shit. Cheap tyres can handle really badly in the wet.

Could have been oil on the road.

Does your HICAS light ever come on, on the dashboard?

Do you have an aftermarket steering wheel?

Hicas had nothing to do with it as it is only active over 80 km/h.

Most likely it was a combination of oil on the road (first rain in awhile), cheap tyres and your car coming onto boost.

In the wet take corners easy in a gtst, even on a straight road under light acceleration when there is water about u can get a wiggle out of the back end!

So take it easy out there dude and get urself some good tyres!

Hey guys thanks for the heads up..

Yeah they are cheap tyres...yeah i think i might just have to take it easy in the wet around the corners. Maybe do something like 2k/h ? :blink:

My car is still pretty much stock as i've only had it for 2 weeks. The only thing i've mod is the pod filer and an magnaflow exhaust.

my advice?

get some driver training. Seriously, Im not being a smart ass (well, maybe?!) but go do a drivers course on a wet skid pan. You'll learn how a car behaves in a safe environment, and then you can do Hasey's trick by having one arm out the window :)

actually apart from just some driver training (which I think is a top idea), you should also get a wheel alignment. Your rear toe should be set to 0 and your rear camber as even side to side as possible. Poor wheel alignment (or something bent back there) can make it much more unstable at the rear.

Enjoy the car and learning to drive it - you've got one of the best handling cars made!

Yeah i'm planing to hot it up more plus i want to learn to how race :D all in due time my friends... Yeah i want to learn more about cars, i come from a computer background so if u ask me how to OC pc's and the likes i know.. but i'm bored with it and don't want to waste any more money on the fastest pc. Time for me to waste money on cars..hehe

      You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.

      So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.

      Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
