"A 20 year old hoon has been sent to jail after clocking the fastest recorded speed on Victorian roads. P-Plater Justin Pickering of Malvern East led police on a marathon chase in his Subaru WRX STI last August along the Hume Highway. Broadmeadows magistrates court heard police clock him at 255km/h.

He was jailed for 3 months, with another 6 months suspended, for six driving offences including reckless conduct endangering life. He was fined $2000 and banned from driving for 5 years."

My uncle got clocked at 281 on a suzuki hayabusa just over 2 years ago, no loss of lisence or even a fine.

Nothern Territory, on a no speed limit road

I think someone's telling fibs. Why would the police have a radar set up on a road with an open speed limit?

probably shouldnt be promoting speeding on public roads

    • Yeah, Duncan is helping sell me back to Android devices. I've hated the whole Android head units due to their speed issues. Even in my old Hyundai Kona (2022 model), it behind the scenes was Android, and slow and shitty to start up. Once running wasn't bad, but still a good 15 to 30 seconds.
    • My roof rails are off atm on the E39 until the rust is fixed. I did find another little bit of surface rust under the rails when I took them off. As @soviet_merlin said I'd just leave them alone unless you're planning on ensuring they're properly sealed. I was on the fence about leaving them off as the delete is still a thing in BMW E39's but I feel like the car is missing something (er, it is, der) with them off and I'm looking forward to putting them back on.
    • Man, I miss having a phone that fits into my hand!
    • The speed this thing starts up is making me want to replace my old one. Though my old one immediately kicks into reverse camera as soon as reverse is engaged, it's clearly not part of the android system. For everything else though, starting up, connecting to hotspot, opening maps, starting music in spotify is easily a ~2 minute affair.
    • Yeah well per the video it took 15s for the stock unit to start up....even if I give it a few seconds discount for starting that is at least 12 sec before you get a reverse camera if you are trying to leave a park.  The android unit is way faster, but 2016 for the stock unit is a long time ago in consumer electronics
