hey guys

my stagea has developed a f**king annoying problem of just turning off. as in engine cuts out, but all electrics stay on (lights, radio etc.)

wtf is it? almost drove into a f**king pole when it decided to cut power mid corner. dunno how i stopped it...

car feels a little sluggish lately too. dunno if thats related or not. ive noticed now that when u goto take off, you can feel it hesitate. is that just the boost when it goes from 5-7 or whetever it is? ive never felt it before

ive been told it could be fuel pick up related, where would i look?

ive cleaned AFM thinking it was that for some reason, didnt fix it.

it only happens in mornings too, grumpy f**k.

im at a loss at the moment, and its got me f**ked what to do.

ny point of putting the nissan diagnostic tool on it to see if it shows a code?

hope u can help before i burn it to the ground!!!

cheers

jarryd.

hey jarryd,

i have the same problem with my R33, i only noticed when i installed a turbosmart boot tee and BOV.. it was really bad when i first put it in then my mechanic said i needed to block the the vent from the original plumb back BOV... this worked but it was still cutting out, he also cleaned the throttle body which fixed it up a lil bit more.. it only cuts out maybe once every now an then, getting it fully serviced next week hopefully that may fix it..

in the mean time if you find the solution to this shitty problem please lemme know,

thanks

make sure your battery leads and connection is clean, and very good & tight (as in a very good electric connection)

stock bov?

I had this happen, like, 3 times in 5months while I used a GFB Stealth FX plumb-back BOV (from xmas to end april)

after replacing bov back to stock (put stock bov in vice and compressed tophat spring) and cleaning battery connections, its all good again.

but yeah mine went mind corner and I wasnt happy. lucky it was city street and was under 20kmph

Back somewhere, a couple of years ago, this popped up.

The day I picked up the S1 i drove 5k to a servo and she cut out while turning in to servo. There was SFA on the gauge and I thought "outa gas". She started and got to the pump.

The compliancer said "maybe shit petrol in the tank". Anyway it was fine for a couple of weeks. The bingo, it happens again.

Arf u#k, now what. Started again no probs. Got home and did the ECU reset. Disco the battery. Ignition on, pump the brake 60 thousand times. Re connect. Hey presto, never happened since.

Personally I think it is Gremlins from the #5 Factory.

If you're running an atmo BOV or standard BOV is blocked off it's making the AFR's go bonkers.

revert it back to standard if this is the case and then see if it gets rid of the stalling - I had this problem a few months back.

Hi

I am also having a similer problum. fueled up friday on the way home (same survo I alwayes use) the car runes smoothley until i want to overtake then it feels as though it is on the rev limiter.(at this point the engine has not cut out). I was toled it might be the AFM so I borowed one from a frend but it stil does the same thing.

Anything else I could try

Sorry if I hijacked the thread but I thort it might be related

Thanks

Phil

brendo - fuel filter was done last servie, but i will try fuel cleaner/octane booster.

just had car at my local nissan dealership, had the diagnostic hooked up to it, AFM code came up.

been told that Y61 Patrols with the 2.8l turbo diesel engine have the same AFM has the stagea/skyline.

on the hunt as we speak

cheers for your help

jarryd

edit: are all RB25 AFM's the same? or is there a difference between them?

stageas run S2 RB25 motors, am i correct?

first off:

take off the lid of the afm and clean it up, resolder the connections

should fix it

other option is to buy one 2nd hand off sau for $50.

ask around in the vic section if someone can give you a hand to re-solder your current afm internals

:)

Yep, Jaryd, the s1 Stagea runs the s2 R33 engine...

Also, run some (carby) cleaner through the AFM, it might help.

done that already, to no avail......

i've got an AFM, it's off an R34, but its the exact same as the S1/2 Stagea, S2 R33, and R34.

(it was used on a S1 stagea to diagnose a problem, so i definately works)

$125 and its yours.

cheers mate, ill let you know via PM

cheers everyone for your help, greatly appreciated...

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
