yeah i owned on for a while...and as far as i was concerned it was all pros!

but i guess depending on your power goal a con could be that you may spend more money for a similar power level

eg if you are chasing anything under 250rwkw you can do it on a RB20 while being still relatively responsive and save money by not having to do the swap, if you want over 250rwkw the extra capacity wil help get higer power with out getting too laggy

I am looking at 300 to 350 rwhp so 250 rwkw should be good. I don't want to have to go through abunch of stuff just to get that. If its easier and cheaper to keep the RB 20 to get this, I will. Friend has a RB25 he wants to sell me for about 300 or 500 dollars. But I would need to find a transmission, wiring, computer and so on. Worth it? I would than still have to buy the parts to make the RB25 get 300 to 350 rwhp

Worth it?

All pro's mate, go for it. Think of it this way, if you can get a RB25 for a couple of grand and spend few grand on it, you'll have more power and better respone than if you had spent the money on the RB20..

the only con is the conversion cost.

after that it's all pros.

You will spend similar money on either engine to get to your target power after that.

I agree totally, but got his power level im not sure if the 25 would be that much better for the cost ,plus im not sure how good a $300 RB25 would be :S

No cons really besides traction. One of my mates done this conversion along with basic supporting mods and we were blown away with the results. Although he wasn't pushing massive power (208rwks), the response of the rb25 along with the weight of the 32 made it a bit of a street weapon. Here's the link of his for sale ad.

rb25's have weak ringlands and don't like bouncing off the limiter

if you are going to drift it keep the 20 and put a bigger turbo. otherwise its all pro's

I often wonder if tuners over there are a bit rough when hearing this kind of thing - or is this people running stock turbo and no tune?

All pros aside from the conversion cost imho.

Dont forget about going through all the legalities with the extra capacity of an RB25. Im not sure if your in NSW, but the capacity increase falls outside the owner certified modification thing in NSW. R32's only came out with RB25DE's, so you'll have to get an engineers certificate. This means that everything will have to look standard including the intake, charcoal cannister, breather hoses going back into inlet, quiet exhaust etc, etc. This is a massive con!

I did, however, get my R32 with a single turbo RB26 re registered and engineered (no thanks to the RTA), so it is possible. Its a massive fcuking effort though.

Shaun.

I've done the upgrade, fitting a Stagea RD25DET into my R32 GTS4. I also fitted an aftermarket ECU, lightweight flywheel and HD clutch assembly. I'm still using the original gearbox.

Went from 115 awkW to 180 awkW. The RB25 is so torquey that I ended up changing to the Stagea diffs (4.1 instead of 4.375).

Building a RB30DET is a lot of stuffing around. RB25DET is factory- just buy one and fit it. Get a R33 halfcut, and you will have everything you need.

i rb25'd my 32, like bunta said unless ur goin for 250kw+ keep the 20 and strap on a 2530(or something larger).. you'll love it. no point doing the conversion unless your gonna go all the way. nothing is more fun than bouncing a 20 off the limiter!!!

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
