I dont know what your trying to say??

Jim would not hand back a car that wasn't right...simple...ive seen it hundreds of times. If it wasn't right (i.e.running out of injector etc) he would hand it back with a safe level of tune and have a chat to the customer on pick-up. He can quickly tune cars because he's not guessing...he roughly knows where the numbers need to be before the car even goes on the rollers. I cannot stress to you enough and point out out to you guys he's the best this country has got.

On a side note, these threads are getting to be ridiculous. Every single time a new one pops up its the same story, every person has workshops/tuners they prefer, and others they dislike. Genuine comments from personal experience are helpful and informative, but its the second and third hand comments from people like the thread starter that don't know what they are talking about and simply repeat rumours they either read somewhere on the net or heard through their mate/brother/cousin/sister/family cat that detract from what could otherwise be a good thread.

hey, noob question but what is the difference between a tune up and a full tune? i did a google search and not much turned up. My questions are:

Do i need any modifications to see the benefits of a tune?

What is the difference between a tune up and a full tune?

Does a tune give you more power, fuel economy, etc or do you tune specifically for that?

A full tune is a tune from scratch, inc. cold starts, etc. A tune up is tweaking the existing tune to get more out of it.

As to power/fuel economy/emissions/etc. That's up to you to specify to the tuner. Typically; more power, more fuel. Stops engine leaning out and going pop - that said, a good tune would be fairly fuel efficient and powerful- as tuning relies alot on O2 readings, then fuel and timing adjustments.

Have not had any bad experiences having dealt with a number of tuners in SYD... (Unigroup, BEL, CRD). CRD will get the most out of it, Jim knows his stuff, but don't be naive if you can provide the best service, you will be priced at a premium. Just like any other product, service or business...

Haha - yes definately have not forgotton that - there is a good way of saying that is the difference :whistling:

You're best calling them up and asking for a quote. Yellow pages ftw.

Depends on the computer, etc. as well. A more comprehensive computer such as a Wolf 3D, autronic or motec will cost more to setup than something like a microtech, because there are more parameters to load up.

From experience of getting a full tune for a 4g63 motor with a wolf 3d, most places quoted me about $600 - just as a ballpark figure.

who did your tuning at bel

From what I understand rigoli has a better rep than CRD. They build BIG engines. I dont think his tuning is viable for most people because of cost.

Anyways, I find it a worry you cant express your opinions on this forum any more, all that seems to happen is you get nailed for anything which goes against the norm.

I struggle to understand why I would goto CRD if so many people have had issues with them to only tune my car and then come back an explain to the non-believers how they f**ked my car. You goto places because people say its good or bad not because u went there once for shits and giggles.

This is how business is made my friend, surely you know this. If your driving past maccas and your mate tells you how they got a big mac with half a rat in it at that store are you going to go back? so perhaps your mate tells you how shit a tuner was when they f**ked his VCT because they figured it could be tuned like v tec. Obviously now they have found it cant be.

Perhaps If I was 14 your comments would hold some worth. I'm not however and I can stop jumping on the SAU bandwagon and decide what is truth and fiction.

Perhaps as a Mod you should employ some of your own advice, BE NICE TO PEOPLE.

I might also add, Just because I doubt croydons abilities does not mean everyone who has used him has a shit tune, IMO some of you sound like you want to marry the guy. Its a tune calm down its not like I nailed your sister..

Now, Id appreciate it if you locked the thread as I'm frustrated spending my time replying in it as I've found my answer.

i gotta agree with the bandwagon comment.

seems theres alot of 'follow the leader' going on around here

not necessarily about tuners, but generally across the forum. when a few of the good ole boys agree on something, its taken as gospel, and any challenge, or deviation is met with hostility and ridicule.

ive seen it a million times.

this cant be good for the forum, and the pool of knowledge around here is eventually going to be a dribbling inbred mess.

It's not just good ole boys, pretty much every workshop has it's share of bandwagoners just like they have their share of haters. It's frustrating for us old timers because of how the forum rules work and also how people work. I wish we could relax the rules a little and I personally think by law we could, however the problem ultimately is that people can't be trusted to do and say the right thing. People always go overboard and say more than they know.

Here's a few tips on how to get the most out of a forum.

1. Spend more time reading than posting.

2. Identify regulars who appear to be knowledgeable.

3. Pay attention when regulars disagree with each other. They will usually have points of agreement in the argument which are worth noting.

4. Search old threads. In relation to finding a workshop, the NSW section gets a thread on this every 2-3 weeks it seems.

5. Research the job you want done so you understand what workshops are telling you.

6. Ring some workshops and see what kind of a feeling you get from them.

7. Pm a few people you have identified on the forums as trustworthy and knowledgeable and ask them nicely about the job and the workshops you are considering. Hopefully one or two of them will reply.

8. Apply a discount to the opinion of anyone who is compromised or affiliated. The level of discount will vary according to how you rate their trustworthiness.

9. Lastly, be aware that different workshops will suit different people. The workshops themselves have a sort of corporate personality, generally formed mostly by the owner. You need one that fits what you want from a workshop.

You'd be surprised how far a pm to a long term/trusted/knowledgeable member can go. I feel this is the best way and I always find myself sending a pm to other memebrs on SAU.

9 times out of 10 you will get good info which you need to help you decide.

    • hello wanted some insight on what my problem could be so i swapped a RB26DETT into my r33 gtst used a R33 GTR engine harness and im using a haltech platinum pro. The car cranks but no start the ecu isn’t getting any power now im trying to find out why i cant seem to find any schematics  or diagram for the engine harness for the r33 gtr anything helps thank you.
    • hahahaa @GTSBoy that is my last resort. Like use a cardboard and cut it using the indicator as a reference. But I was winging my luck to see anyone had a spare bumper because drawing the outline off the hole is always easier and less chance of mucking it up
    • Admittedly in that screenshot its doing about 13psi but later on in the log theres definitely spikes to 16. What is missing though is the massive peak, then a big drop and then a recovery. While it does go a little higher than I would like on base pressure, I think it's reasonably safe to assume that boost control via the mac valve should be a lot easier to control from here on out. I wasn't game to hook up the mac valve today as it's very wet and it's on the verge of fighting traction as it is.
    • I think this is still wrong. There is something crappy with wastegate priority (or the f**king absence of it) if you can't get below nearly double the base spring pressure. But if you're happy with what you've got, upload skid vids now.
    • So a further update for this one. Turbosmart were very gracious and took one look at the wastegate and said this is our original version, we will just replace the entire thing and send it back to you. So I fitted the new wastegate with its new revisions and took it around the block on spring pressure (9 psi spring). Appears the minimum it will do is about 16psi. Keep in mind this is only 2nd and 3rd gear pulls. I think the issue is fixed compared to what it was doing before however I'm happy to provide more logs if anyone thinks theres more to the story to uncover
