Well we were having a great old time until we hit a bank head on a few corners from the end of Big River stage!

Geoff checked out the in-car today. It looks like we were turning in for a R5 (1-10 notes) doing around 100kays. Under steered off the road, hit the grass at about 80 and the bank head on at 70. I think the creases in the front guard tell a bit of the story of the impact, plus the fact we were both winded for a good few minutes after.

We also had a big bounce and heavy landing at the back of the car (hard enough to break the suspension on my side- watch those diet jokes fellas) which accounts for our lower back injuries – including the broken tailbone for me - yep, you can let the bum cracked jokes begin :P

One thing’s for sure- I will not be letting anyone I care about jump into a car without a HANS device. The three hours on a spinal board, and ten hours in a spinal brace waiting for the all clear were scary enough, and that's with me wearing my HANS. The suspected internal injuries were not much chop either.

We did learn that adrenalin is a very powerful thing. I was lying down way up a hill and behind a tree, feeling a bit sore and sorry for myself, waiting for the stage to end when Brendo & Rhi rolled on the same corner. They said they ran out of brakes, tried to avoid hitting our car, hit a bank and flipped. We were up pretty quick (though waddling, not running) to get the extinguishers when we saw their car smoking and them not immediately jumping out.

Aside from my (mis)adventures, I thought it was a great event. Really well run, particularly when you consider it was its first running, and those roads were sensational. Not to mention being nice and affordable, and easy for us mainlanders to get too.

I’ll be back next year!

And big congrats to all the SAU-ers who got there, and those who scored some great results.

Congrats to all the SAU peeps who entered and finished....being up the pointy end of the field is a bonus

For those that had some misadventures as Kel put it I hope you get well soon and the cars back on the road in no time.

Interesting event for us, I flew in tuesday morning expecting to go straight to Buller and recce, but car had issues and wasn't ready. Still wasn't ready wednesday, so I decided to head up the mountain thursday anyway.

Got the 'Good' news thursday night the car was ready and on its way up.

Recce friday, missed drivers briefing, did did the prologue and all was good.

Saturday morning started out well, but mainly getting the pressures right in the tyres. Got to the lunch break and nobody was there! WTF? Ok so after driving round following basic instructions from the CRO's we got there, but 4 minutes over late time. Mr Benson thankfully sorted that out an we were back on our way, but what seemed to be a common occurance i didn't get to eat much of my lunch.

2nd stage after lunch and we had been warned of a car on fire but all ok. So we start the stage, having a fair old dip till this happened.

Put the fear of god in us both and gingerly cruised the remainder of the stage in the left hand lane, fearing what else could come along!

Next stage on the start line a radiator hose splits and steam pisses out of the engine bay, Seriously could things get much worse? coast through the stage, thankfully some of it was downhill. Got to the end and pulled over. Simon Gillet stopped and gave us a hand and we were back on our way within 5 minutes. but now the 2nd last car on the road

Mt Buller was by now pretty ripped up so not the best run in the world up there, but no excuses.

Following day started well, drove the 60km transport to the second stage, and we were looking forward to Jamieson. Sitting on the line, 5, 4, 3... Car starts rolling backwards, break pedal on the floor.. OMG! The chances of it happening there and not 2 Km's in! anyway enough was enough, transported through the stage getting passed by atleast 8 cars.. Ghey

Thankfully Miedeke Motorsport service crew were at the end and bandaged us up and we limped it back home.. another DNF

Thankfully there was a carton of beer in the room when we got back to Buller, I'd had about enough!!!

On the Hans device note from Kel, I picked up a DefNder from the states for $600 (thanks Aussie $). Still not cheap, but good quality, fits well, and looks like it will do the job at least as well as the Hans... not that I've got any intention of testing it.

He was one of the drunks phoning and texting me during the night.

Other notables were Benson and Millar...... both whom i reckon have been tainted with the ghay brush. Pair of hairdressers :whistling:

I swear I saw them run off together with a giant purple dong at some stage so you could be right :)

(Actually Whitey smacking Mark Perry in the head with it and being told he was bringing the sport into disrepute was one of the more amuzing things I have seen).

Both me and my Nav run a DefNder too. It was the first event I've run with it and it seemed to do the job well. Took a bit to get used to wearing but you can definitely see how good they would be in an impact.

hahaha, never a dull moment is there, is probably what I miss most you know :whistling:

Fortunately whilst on the phone to Mr Pointy himself on Friday I've secured the Qld distridution rights to the "YT Bum Med" (copyright Jason White 2007) - perfect for lazy sundays after a big night on the cans and obligatory kebab.

Still in negotiations for the "YT High Tide Wipe" (copyright Jason White 2010) - superb for folk of Benson and Millar persuasion.

Still remember the day the Bum Med was invented, was due to a follow thru....!

and the need to race commando in Frenchy's borrowed race suit...

Well, I can say I contributed absolutely nothing to the weekend. I turned up 5 minutes after the last car left the start line for the final stage up the mountain. 20minutes later I had a beer in my hand talking sh1t! Thats a good night in my books :(

Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
