I got dragged from some traffic lights by a wanker in a Smart fortwo... :( lol

OK, so it wasnt really a drag race. He jumped the lights to get in front of me and I couldn't allow that so I sped up a bit. The scary thing was, rather than slow down to let me pass, he pushed alongside me for 50m between the traffic lane where I was and the parked cars. :)

Has anyone else had any interesting traffic light experiences? Another one I had was a courier on a motorbike running into my mirror whilst lanesplitting whilst I was stopped. Thankfully no damage but I would have been super pissed if there was.

hehe good ol cvt's.. they work well on take off by getting u during ur gear change lag.. i used to drive a prius and had lots of fun 'draggin' cars off the mark. You can beat most cars to about 40km/h :( which is just enough to jump in front of them.. i know it's evil but hey you gotta work with what u got :)

Guys,

Please no further talk of "drag racing" on public roads at traffic lights.

Happy for people to share general stories, but if this turns into a - I ran a guy at the lights, thread, it will be closed.

Cheers

Bobby

Sorry Bobby,

As I said it wasn't actually a "drag race" as such...

I found most drivers of low powered cars ie Smart, Echo, 121, Excel, etc. they're used to floor their accell to the floor every start of traffic light as they'll always need to squeeze as much as possible out of their tiny engines to get ahead most of the time... regardless gal or guy drivers...

They may have no intention of dragging anyone but just the style of their driving that seems to be, which evolved from trying to make up for the lack of power in their car...

But when you had some moron in some mid to hi end powered cars like integra, wrx, v6/v8 falcon or commodore doing that, then they're draggin you on purpose... not worth wasting time on these sort of morons really... just take down their plate #, call crime stoppers and just leave it the cops decision whether to nail them and impound their car for hooning...

had a BMW X5 diesel next me at the lights once, when I had my 1J supra... Admittedly it was downhill, but I have to tell you, those things can really move, up until about 60kph.... Neither of us was 'racing', but we were both in a hurry to the speed limit: I was surprised by how fast those huge barges get off the mark: very impressive!

That's the beauty of diesel's torque... they put diesel engines in trucks beside its economy also the enormous torque that it can generate at low speed.

I was in a truck once and boy they feel like pulling real hard, but after a few seconds I looked at the speedo it was only 30-40km/h

Yeah, those diesel X5 feel crazy when u're inside them. But then I look at the speedo, and its like only 40km/h lol. Great car just for the thrills of it. Can rev it out and not not break any laws. Miss the days of my sister's Rav4.... hahaha.

russky, u talkin about Rav4 diesel? I saw from time to time the previous model some had bonnet scoop that looked like a very cool turbocharged 4WD, and as I believe those are the turbo diesels one, am I right? We have the latest model and there's no diesel range offered, only 4cyl and later the 6cyl 200kw engine

    • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.
    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
