I was in my friends WRX the other night. We were driving home from Petersham towards Rockdale, accelerating fast but not over the limit, rev out 1st gear then just hit 2nd a couple of times. By the way he has a Megasonic BOV which attracted a lot of attention.

Anyways, I looked in the passenger side mirror and saw a plain AU Falcon with normal number plates on it with 4 ppl in the car 3 males and a female driver, thought nothing of it so we continued as normal. Friend got a phone call so he pulled over and the Falcon passed us but slowed down...we thought it drove off.

When my friend finished the phone call, we went back on our way. We caught back up to the Falcon but we were still doing the speed limit. It pulled over and let us pass, which i thought was very very weird. We then took our normal shortcut and 20metres from turning the street we see hear a siren from behind..it didn't sound like a typical Cop siren, they then put a blue flashing light up on their roof.

The female driver told us to turn off the car. 2 people get out, the 2 males from the back seat. "Licence please" he says.

My friend kindly handed it over. Then the Female driver comes out along with the male in the Front passenger seat. We had 4 cops surrounding us. Each of them in plain clothes. This is where I started to shit myself.

Funny thing is, EACH one of them had torches, and asked BOTH of us to get out of the car. And they were also considerably young early 20's...we started to get suspiscious.

They asked us where we were off, to where we were from and reasons why.

Then they asked my friend to open up his bonnet. So he agreeably did.

"Your blow off valve is quite loud, my friend" one guy said. "You should really get that fixed and plumbed back".

I thought..hmm..he knows his shit.

Whilst 2 cops were checkin under the bonnet, the 2 others were scoping inside the car. I over heard a couple of words.."alarm, immobiliser and pin code"

Thats when i got really suspiscious...so i asked to see their badges. They all looked at eachother. One said "don't be a smartarse".."both of you please get back in your car"

My friend got his Licence back and the cops just left it at that.

We quickly took the licence plate. And were thinking..."what the f**k just happened".

Should we report this. Or is it pointless.

I believe that they were going to hi-jack us and probably have done this before.

Probably had a tow truck ready to lift the car.

But to our suspiscions they got scared..

Mystery...

report them and give us all the number plate and discription of the car. There is no way in hell there coppers and we should all be sus of this car. Also there still should be an ugly large antenna hanging of it aswell if its a genuwine cop car.

Detectives cars dont usually have large antennas, yet usually are still fitted with lights in the grille or on the dash.. They will still pull you over if they see you doing something stupid, as one of my mates found out! I dont think they've used the magnetic ones on the roof since the 80's have they? :O

I'd report it to the cops anyway, just in case. I'm pretty sure all the AU Falcons have been cycled out of police duties by now.

The cops also have a severe dislike to people pretending to be them. If they were potential car thieves, its better to let the cops earn their pay and f**k these guys' shit up before they come for your mate's car.

If I ever get pulled over and the cops refuse to show me a badge, I'm shooting through and making a bee-line to the nearest police station. If they're legit, we can discuss their failure to adhere to standard procedure at the station.

thats too suss. what colour was the Falcon? what were the plates? and what was their appearance / nationality?

i drive through that area. thanks for warning.

You dont have to get out of the car if you dont feel safe, unless of course you are being arrested for doing some thing stupid. If they didnt show me their badge I would have called the cops and reported the situation and then ask them to send out a uniformed officer

Report it.

Police often travel in 2 and will almost never surround the car one will remain in your blind spot until you exit the car, for safety sake.

Rockdale is a "bad" area most likely they were doing as you suspected. I would personally lock down the car for a few days away from home.

To be honest, I don't think this is nearly as suspect as you might think. I imagine you've just mixed up the Falcon's and that it was actually some detective's working in the area on something else. They more than likely just thought it worthwhile to check the car over for drugs or whatever else. And they would've been commenting on the immobiliser as it's a good indication that the car belongs to you and you haven't stolen it.

They wouldn't have defected you for the BOV as they're not highway patrol officers, so it doesn't really matter to them.

Report it if you like, but I'm sure it's paranoia more than anything.

    • The car/ECU will have all the sensor that it needs and expect to have. I think i do not have to explain to you how the Link is way better specialy if you have swapped engine   I just do not want to deal with any "problems" cuz i have only Nistune which i learned is not that great and in my case cant even deal with that speed problem (Link can) And of course it will be way more easier to tune and diagnose and safe. And for the ECU/speed problem...i dont know.
    • Per Mark Roberts of Sonictune: Mark Robert Author At this time, no. No ETA either 2016-17 models. You will be able to purchase and install a 2018.5+ TCU though   TCU purchasing and pricing info! As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. One good way to know if your TCU is good is if you have auto upshift in manual mode in 1st gear around 6500 rpms. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? The TCU is its own computer module. It is completely separate from the ECU. Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
