I am using octane booster atm as my car was somehow tuned on 100 octane petrol and i can only get 98 octane petrol.

When I get some money and a tuner i will retune for 98 octane and everything will be sweet.

On my current tank and first tank of using octane booster knock hasn't been over 20 using 12psi, used hit 45ish.

Sucks that shell got rid of their vpower racing huh.

I will buy a bottle to try out, you gave me a good idea about watching the knocks. Mine seems to reach about 15-25 but im not sure if its just engine noise or not but i will add the booster and see if it reduces down.

Alot of people think it dosent work but its worth a try at like 20ish bucks. Plus the website did a test and it seemed pretty worthwhile.

erm, 15-25 is perfectly normal and acceptable.

You simple wont get it any lower.

If your using octane booster to try and lower the knock below 25 then you wont ever achieve that.

Under 35 is TOTALLY fine.

Not sure, but i tell you now it wont be 5.

Lower the better yes, but the fact of the matter is you will NEVER get it below 15-25, thats where the sensor sits on a well tuned car.

I see 30-35 on occasion, no harm at all

What do stock ecu's usually run knock at? I would have thought under 5 always on 91 octane or something really low to prolong the engine.

The lower the better i say.

Is it because the stock ecu reduces timing to decrease the knock? Im a very paranoid person so because my power fc dosent have the ability to reduce timing im always afraid to give it the beans.

Im in process of booking in another dyno tune at CREATD motorsports as im getting my new version 6 hks evc installed and i will ask them to get the knocks as low as possible.

Is it possible that my 15-25 ish 'knocks' are just other engine noises picked up by the microphones? I wonder!

yes, entirely possible that its other noise picked up by the sensor, some people say that general road noises can be responsible for like a knock reading of 15 or so. cant tell you how much to expect in skylines etc though, most issues i've heard of are in older cars with rattly top ends

Not sure, but i tell you now it wont be 5.

I've heard loud pinging at 38 knock on the hand controller...

Don't always believe what you see

^^ Faulty knock sensor perhaps if its only popping 38

I couldnt hear an ounce of pinging and my car is as quiet as its gonna get these days.

Obviously might be able to hear more with ears etc, but that remains to be seen

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
