Hi Crew,

I am a big fan of Thai food and especially Vietnamese.

Not really a lover of Chinese these days. IMO it's a bit thick-saucy/gluggy.

Wondering if anyone has a fave place.

My fave is Wy Wy in Kensington (opp the old Geebung/Sydney Liars Club).

Fave entree is @ a Vietnamese place in Footscray. It's garlic prawns on a sizzling dish. Cheap as and I think it's called Hy Hy or Huy Huy in Hopkins St.

Had some good Viet food in Springvale too.

Best Thai ever is in Sherwood Road, Toowong (Brisbane). It's freakin' awesome Thai!!!!

Over to you.

Pho would have to be my fav asian/viet food. The best Pho I've had is on victoria st. Cant remember the name of the place, and even if I did, I couldnt spell it. Maybe Anh Anh, or something like that. I'm sure there are good places in springvale, but I dont live out that way. After that my fav asian food would be Filippino. Calderetta and pancit especially. However there are no decent filo restaurants in melb.

Best Pho i had was in Footscray just opposite the Footscray market.

Best Chinese Restaurant has to be Flower Drum. Make sure you make a reservation well in advance before going though. Very nice food there, been going back after each time.

There's this Thai restaurant along Victoria Parade on the side going towards Richmond, small little place. They have the best Pad Thai

Mel and I went to land of siam yesterday - very nice restaurant. Service is excellent, food is fantastic - good price too, and the atmosphere is very very relaxed. At the back they have a massage business.

long grain is pretty darn good, thai fusion food. its not your budget stall but its very good for a night out to impress the missus.

im a springy local and i took my laos/thai mate to a laos/thai place called pog pog. he said its was pretty damn good and authentic. theres also this little purple viet one opposite the trainstation next to the pannel beaters/mechs that is pretty good. Just watch out for the old guy as things magically appear on your bill...ha we still go back there though.

Indochine, Tien Dat both on carrington rd box hill are pretty good for vietnamese.

As for thai, there's thai garden (glen waverly area?) which is great (tiny place though, so book ahead), one thai (balwyn, little pricey but not bad) and thai lantern in ivanhoe

Tai Pan for the yum cha win :P

Hey eMsta, whats that duck place called? Rock Kung or Kung Rock? In Glen Waverly

Some nice duck and rice dishes there!

If you want Roast Duck, go to Richmond, along Victoria Street. This place called Pacific House, best duck ever.

Fave entree is @ a Vietnamese place in Footscray. It's garlic prawns on a sizzling dish. Cheap as and I think it's called Hy Hy or Huy Huy in Hopkins St.

My fav Viet resturants in Hopkins St in Footscray too..i forgot wat its called coz i never remember the name, but its shop number is 100 lol

i loves it! :3some:

There is no single best thai place as the good ones have approx 1-2 special dishes in Melbourne that you go for. However one of the all round best places for weekend lunch is Krua Thai on Bridge Road, Ying Thai at the end of Victoria near punt or if you want to go a bit spesh you roll up the road on the weekend an got o Ing Doi for some special boat noodles...only on weekends. My friends own Blossom Thai on toorack road near chapel, thats a pretty good spot for the general aussie with basic tastes I used to visit there a lot. If you want to doubt me on Thai...what language do you think my name is in?

If you want steak I only go to Rockpool, The Point or Valdos. I frequent Rockpool both melb and Sydney often (like last night and lunch on friday). But its not cheap...but quality never is. Valados is iconic and great for the perfect steak. Squires Loft is good also, but a secondary place for me.

You want chinese again it depends on what you want. In the CBD area you can go to Bamboo House for fairly good peeking duck - until you got o places that require pre-order which tend to be better. Then if u want Yum Cha there is a place in Burwood (which is currently closed for renovations) which we go to quite often...I've founf it to be one of the better places and i have been having the old Dim Sum for appox 10 years around Melbourne and the world, so I feel i have some insight into these places. As for Pacific House - yeah this gets a A+ from me as I have got take aways duck from there many times...however I usually get mine form Box Hill cos its closer.

The chain of Kim Chi Korean BBQ rest. are quite good, i usually go to the one in Box Hill as its pretty good, however next door they have a all you can eat BBQ joint which is pretty good, but I dont like the enviroment and if I'm wearing a suit...it needs to be dry cleaned after you go there.

The best Japanese food is in Glenferrie - Samurai. Very cheap, small but pretty much the best in Melb. And I have been everywhere and I keep going back. However if you want to book a great place there is Shira Nui in glen waverly, renowned to be the best jap joint - awsome sushi.

Finally I have been going to Blue Chillie on Brunswick rd for some Malaysian...this place is actually quite, or the famous Penang on Burwood rd Glenferrie.

However as always you need to know what is special at each restaurant - there always something that is special, trick is finding out what it is...I eat out 10 or so times a week which probably doesnt include breakfest - generally for work and other business meetings...it tends to be what i do.

When you ready we can start to talk Desert :/

Great suggestions guys! Keep it up.

I agree that Pacific House in Richmond is excellent for Peking Duck.

Having read everyone's comments I'm now hankering for some good asian food and think I'll use the father's day thing to see me get there. :/

Saigon Bakery, half way along Victoria St, Richmond has killer BBQ Pork/Chicken salad rolls for around $3.50.

Slightly better are the one's at the vietnamese bakery in Puckle St, Moonee Ponds.

One near station in Springvale main drag also don't do a bad job.

There's a lot of bakeries that disappoint as they use cold chicken or pork loaf, but not the 2 mentioned above.

Rock Kung in Glenny. The End.

Its exactly like a chinese restaurant in china. Quick, half arsed decor, bugger all service unless you speak chinese.... but the food is good, cheap and they're open till 3am.

SAU Half Duck and Bucket of Rice Crew highly endorses this establishment.

My inlaws own Ahaan Thai on Castella Street in Lilydale. And for Vietnamese I recommend Indochine on Carrington Road in Box Hill.

Box Hill is the best suburb for food.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
