Adz2332
I have a GTR r33. Im looking for some new dumps. They all look very much the same to me... Is there any major differances between the major brands eg trust, Hks, Tomei etc? Is it worth getting one over another? Im going to get a set of 2860s turbos of some description to go wid the dumps Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/238740-dumps/ Share on other sites
GTR1993
I have the tomei ones they look awesome, if they work half as good as they look it will be good, fit perfect also. I picked them up for 600 for the pair new. I dont like the HKS split ones (or their copies) as the main feed it too small in my opinion and the single large dump works better. Antimatter
I too like the Tomei ones Stock ones are pretty good (in fact - really good) - not too keen on the HKS ones. Apparently Nismo make a cast 1 piece one as well - $$$$ I am guessing. Also there is HPI - though they look pretty similar to tomei... rev210
there are plenty of choices. The stock dump pipes are restrictive and the exhaust housing of the turbo often has overlap on the dump flange making it really need a good port matching. Hard to go wrong except for the el'cheapo china units. They often need work to align the flanges and as a result may bolt on and actually perform worse than stock. R33GOD
bit off topic but what power level do the stock dumps become useless? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/238740-dumps/#findComment-4173999 Share on other sites
joeleo87
They are never useless, its just ideal to upgrade them when you do the turbos. larger dumps mean a quicker spool up and in most cases more power Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/238740-dumps/#findComment-4174056 Share on other sites
rev210
bit off topic but what power level do the stock dumps become useless? As suggested they are not useless. Ugrading them at any point (stock turbos or otherwise) will net you some power. heller44
Hpi, mines, tomei, oodles of choices. Look around for second handies for the bargain buys, as long as it is made of decent stainless and the flanges are true you can't go wrong. I picked up a set of mines dumps and apexi front, all second hand stanless for 400 delivered. Might not be as nice as a new shiny pipe, but how long is your new shiny pipe going to look that way? I can't even see any of it so looks don't matter much. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/238740-dumps/#findComment-4174525 Share on other sites
R33GTRKid
does anyone have dyno proof with proper back to back testing to say why HKS split dumps are no good - the reason I ask is that my tuner specifically told me to get tomei manifolds but HKS dumps to go with 2530's??? femno
I dont see the point in the tomei units...fair enough they look mint. Who here is using them with a twin 3inch into one front pipe? Cos if youre not theres no point in having a dump with a 3inch outlet.... Just buy the Just Jap split stainless dumps. A bit less turbulence that stockers in the gate pipe and same 2.5 inch outlet, same size as most aftermarket front pipes. Makes perfect sense. The JJ ones fit perfectly too. Dont buy ebay ones. They dont fit. Theyre a throwaway. Tried myself LOL. Oh, and the tomei manifolds look mint too. But the cast stockers match ported do the same job and are half the price at the end of the day. And stronger. And wont ever crack. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/238740-dumps/#findComment-4177646 Share on other sites

And will be worse than stock if you aren't bothered to check the matching of the flange to the turbos and get rid of the overlaps. When they do bolt on they have rather crappy flange alignment so unless you like poor flow you get the die grinder out for a few hours. I've now seen enough of these to know quality control is an afterthought. raZ1911
Custom is best. Go some where and they will make one better and cheaper than shit your just paying for because of the brand name.
