Ethanol in sump?? What have I missed :S

My catch can fills up in around 2000ks with an ethanol and water mix, it evaporates out of the oil so the ethanol must be running past the rings on cold start. (I assumed it would.) the water is just condensation.

DO NOT use Chrono V if you are running E85. The ester in the oil reacts with the fuel and will create a milky substance in your engine.

The Motul rep told me only use Synergie 6100.

I ran 300v for 6 months as a daily, there was no milky substance until I changed the thermostat for a low temp one, the ethanol/moisture has to boil out of the oil so 80 degrees is the lowest I would run.

Since then I have been on the Sougi S6000 which is also ester with no issue either, GW recommend Sougi for ethanol so I cant see that it would be much different for the 300v...

I have done 1 tank on E-Flex from caltex at nicholls. ABSOLUTELY loving how the car feels!!!

Gonna go back in for a dyno run this week.

This is only the "e70" according to the lady at the counter.

I am pretty shitted off at the pricing, first tank was 98.5c this tank today was 111.9c

the tank today was 23% cheaper than Vortex 98. THEY MUST NOT BE SERIOUS ABOUT GETTING THIS STUFF OUT THERE!!! as there is absolutely no way the price saving is enough to make economical for these new cars to run the stuff! and thats only on 70% ethanol. even less economical when they go 85%

But since I'm not in it for ecomony... Best power upgrade EVARRRRR :ermm::huh::no:

i got my car idling/free reving with safe AFR's yesterday afternoon in the driveway. cant do much more than that without any rego however.

i found i needed to increase my fuel map near 40% to get it to idle at anything near reasonable afr and it was idling super rich on 98 (it was ~15:1 but the injectors were dirty and once cleaned it went to around 11:1)

oh wow.

Mine idles and cruises sweet on at anything from 20% to 30% more. Must be a good closed loop thingy i got going on.

but WOT the AFR's are nice (still a tad rich sitting on 11 - 11.5) around 27% more.

ok i post this straight at guilt toy coz i know he has some understanding of my setup. Effy the siggy goes off the road in december for the finish off mods, body, diff final fuel system, head and turbo/exhaust.

As with so many others ive decided to run the E85 fuel given im about to change much of the setup anyway.

The setup now is 2.8L 4cyl, running the hypautectic pistons im satisfied it can push my engine a little further as it wont ping running e85 correctly. Safer anyway... My current pump is only the Bosch 070 pushing 550cc denso injectors. Im at 95% capacity due to pump but injectors are close also.

I would like to run Bosch 044 single pump with approx 880cc injectors but im wondering do i go for 1000 instead??? Will the single 044 pump be able to supply enough or do i need to consider a twin pump setup? Will the 1000cc injectors be prone to squirting at idle or is it simply safe when you pick good quality injectors??? So far no one has said anything ive seen about E85 being anything less than perfect at idle but it pays to ask.

Im currently running rubber lines throughout, bar the length of stock steel line on the car. what fuel lines should i upgrade to? 6mm braided rubber or something else???

Im sorry to ask mate on the skyline forum and all but sadly im not aware of anyone having done it to a sigma yet. Any advice you can give me would be awesome before i go off buying my fuel setup and installing the wrong things. :)

Went to Kambah Caltex on my lunch break to fill up and ask about e85 - the guy I spoke to appeared to be the manager or at least someone cluey...more or less he said no fking idea. They were supposed to have it, but he's heard jack shit from anyone even though the website mentions it. Apparently he's had a lot of calls about it too lol.

Anyone know of any more melb caltex places that actually have e85 now besdies the springvale one, all the ones ive checked have said to me that theyll only put them in when the service station gets renovated.

Pat, I'm a little concerned about my fuel consumption given it's a 98 tune lol....I really need that fking wideband now hey lol.

I doubt my e85 tune should be any different in economy to yours, if my driving style remains the same.

I think my economy has been so shit due to the way I've been driving (booooooooost) and the fact that I doubt it finds it's way OFF the cold start map to and from work at all. Water temp hits about 60 degrees by the time I park at work....only just.

What "economy" are people getting from their E85 setups?

Cruising around town not boosting i get around 21L/100km,

Sitting on 100km/hr around 17L/100km (Very surprised it gets this low....over 300km to a tank!!)

Thrashing around (legally) 37L+/100km

My first tank of E-Flex (which i believe is e70 at the moment) got around 14-15L/100Km (this had a dozen tuning runs but a highway trip aswell...)

on 98 my average economy is something around 11-12L/100Km (all depending on how i drive it of course)

Your economy is SHOCKING! look at changing your O2 sensor

yeah troy ya gotta do a "normal" driving tank, take it further and just chill out sometimes lol.

If your at cruise AFR's are right then you should see the same economy. But def get that wideband if ya gonna do E-Flex

techedge will set me back $478 or some shit after GST and freight tho :verymad:

then I gotta get it installed....fark knows where I'll get that done, unless I can somehow just replace my factory o2 sensor with the techedge and plug that into the v44.

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
