Guys, I have my eyes on this...

apex_power_intake.jpg

would it:

a) suit my car (R32 RB20DE)?

B) be suitable for use legally in Australia?

c) be easy to fit as an intake into the airbox?

d) make any noise?

e) pull chicks?

read my thread about air filters in this section of the forum...

after that thread the apexi is what i ended up getting..

it was 180$ delivered in 6 days through perfect run

a) it should, check the perfect run site to make sure

b)yes and no.. depends.. iv heard alot of ppl getting defected for em, but that the same with any pod filter

c)you have to remove the std. airbox to fit it, it took me about 20-30mins coz it was dark :D

d)alot of noise!!:uh-huh: it flutters a lil if i shift b4 boost, when boosting you can hear it suck like a mf, and its make my blitz BOV louder(but since ur n/a alot of that is irrelevent :()

e)oh man,, u gotta beat them away with a stick.. what do u want from the thing,, its just a filter not a pimp:lol: :Pimp:

http://www.perfectrun.com.au/performance%2...upersuction.htm

or

http://www.perfectrun.com.au/performance%2...powerintake.htm

and with the power intake above, do i need piping and all the other bits? or does that come with the pack? cause all i see is the filter bit.

also... will i need all the extra bits or will it strap str8 on?

dont laff!!!

I bought one because of this review. I had a craparse Redline one on before, which you could actually see through! It had some visible holes in it, so it was pretty useless as a filter. The Apexi one actually seems to flow better though because it has a better design.

Before I got it I temporarily swapped my Redline for my friend's HKS. The Apexi seemed to have a little more restriction at high revs, contrary to what the review above says, and I was a little disappointed. But when I took a look at both pods, it seemed to just be that the HKS was more able to draw air in directly from the front, whereas the Apexi was more likely to draw in some from the sides and behind, where all the hot air from the engine was coming from. So I *think* it was just because it was drawing in more hot air, not because it was flowing less.

I put in a cold air box today and that's fixed the "restrictive" feel of the Apexi pod, it now flows better than the HKS did without the box. Not sure if the HKS would flow better in the box as well, but I doubt there'd be much in it. I don't know if I trust the gtrowner review for the power gains, but the filtration results are probably correct. I'd rather save my engine getting dirt in it at the expense of a few hp (and I don't even know if I'm paying those few hp).

Summary: Very happy with Apexi pod!

If you have any question about the legality, then go and have a read here... Guide to Modifications for Motor Vehicles

You may find that a pod filter can be a problem with insurance companies (for some bizarre reason)

I have also read somewhere that you aren't allowed to have both a pod filter and an intercooler (in Victoria) you can have one or the other, but I suppose if you are nice enough to the police, then you can hope that they don't notice :(

(I think the thing about the pod filter and cooler was on mccr somewhere...probablt the legal section)

Yep, very very easy to fit, as long as you can reach behind the intake plumbing to get the 2 lower bolts into place. If you're skilled enough to undo your sump plug you can fit this pod (and any pod I know of) yourself. If you've never done it before, set aside half an hour to an hour to work everything out and do the job.

Even though the Apex pod has a paper filter, it wouldn't surprise me if it could still flow more than the foam HKS filter (but it's probably about the same). The surface area of the Apex is bigger because of the zigzag pattern and would compensate for the more restrictive material. And it also has that funnel thing that Mick put pictures up of to assist in airflow.

    • I'd be very surprised if you can buy new OEM mats. But if you can, I want some too!  Do you have links to the variations you found? Also, where are you located? I found that Nengun is happy to list items to purchase but when you do buy them you'll get an email that it's actually discontinued. As far as I know the variations in floor mats are different colour schemes as well as automatic and manual having a slightly different shape. The automatic ones fit into a manual car without issues, but I think you'd have trouble fitting the other way around. I have photos that show the shape difference if you care. FWIW I bought sets of used floor mats in decent condition at yahoo auctions.
    • Hi 🙋‍♂️. Just bought my Unicorn but the interior need some minor work so it would match my expectations ;). I noticed it is hard to get used oem floor mats in good condition so i started to dig if there's any chance to buy set of new ones. I found two websites - nengun and amayama and it looks like one can still buy factory new floor mats in Japan, but thers a small issue. Some mats (i assume genuine, oem ones) are marked as G4900 and these are "discontinued". The ones you can buy are marked as G4911 but i have no idea if these are also oem, made by other producer or some lower quality replacements that looks entirely different. Can anyone help? 😃  P.s. there is also some strange indication - 0V005, 0V015 and 0V505. Any idea what does it mean? Would appreciate any help with this 🙏
    • Hi, Marek here 🙋‍♂️. I finally fulfilled my longtime dream - recently bought Stagea and now waiting for it to arrive in Poland. There's only few of these in my country, and one of the owners  recommended mi this forum as a source of all the info i'd need since now i own one  so here i am.
    • Version 1 aluminium airbox is.......not acceptable No pics as I "didn't like the look.....alot" Even after all my "CAD", and measurements, the leg near the fusebox just didn't sit right as it ended up about 10mm long and made the angle of the dangle look wrong, the height was a little short as well, meh, I wasn't that confident that Version 1 was going to be an instant winner I might give Version 2 another go, there's plenty of aluminium at work, but, after having in on and off a few times, and laying in the old OEM airbox without the new pod filter and MAF, there may be an option to modify the OEM air box and still use the Autoexe front cover and filter.... maybe This >  Needs to fit in here, but using the panel, and not the pod, the MAF will need to fit in the airbox though> I'm thinking as the old OEM box and Autoexe cover that is sitting in the shed is just sitting around doing nothing, and they are relatively abundant and cheap to replace if I mess it up and need another, it may well fit with some modifications to how the Autoexe brackets mounts to the rad support, and some dremiling to move it get in there, should give me some more room for activities, as I don't want to move the MAF and affect the tune Sealing the hole it requires to stick it in the air box is simple, a tight fit and some pinch weld will seal it up tight  I am calling this a later problem though
