Hey guys this is just for a marketing/consumer behaviour assignment. Wondering where you guys would sign up for a new mobile contract and phone. Focusing on melbourne/victoria buyers so posted here.

Do you like sitting down on those couches in Yes Optus's new lay out stores, do you like the free xbox's or mp3's when signing up with strathfield or jb hi fi or do you like the convenience of ordering your new contract and phone over the phone or internet?

Had a bad experience with any of these? i phone never came in on the specified date because sold out prior and went emo tenfold? Guy at the local telstra doesn't know shiet and keeps staring at your missus's boobs? What are your reasons?

i know theres a few choices so just pick whatever relates to you

any input would be awesome. thanks!

Personally for the couple I have had, I prefer to go to the supplier directly, in my case Telstra and Optus. Telstra was chosen for coverage and nothing else and Optus was chosen for the availability of plans and the iPhone plus I was pissed off with Telstra for their high excess charges and useless staff each time I spoke to someone.

found a corker deal with TPG, and i'm in the middle of switching. I've got the sim, but haven't activated yet and haven't canceled with optus yet, but i'm practically up and running with TPG, which is Soul, which i guess is just optus in the end

i did mine over the net as i think that was the only way of doing it with TPG.

$19.99, $300 cap, NO CONTRACT, just pay by the month. Got my number brought over from optus. Happy camper. I'm currently $49 cap with Optus for like $230 calls, so TPG was a no brainer especially with no lock-in contract. leave whenever i want.

Hope i haven't missed something, and there's some catch 22

^^^really? but thats just for sim/the plan right? no fone? if fone which fone lol?

bout to finish off my contract also with soul in a month so looking to get a good deal as they have been ripping me off quite abit lol.

i BYO'd phone, so don't know about the deals with phones... there were some to choose from though, check it out at TPG if you're keen

so yeah, for me it's just sim/plan. I think it's the cheapest NO CONTRACT plan going, well, cap plan anyway. Other has $19, $300 caps but they're 24month lock in

Same ^^ although not as viable now but when the market was strong it saved my a lot of money to buy my phones in HK and go into no contracts, here but since we crashed you don't save that much anymore plus I haven't held onto a phone for over a year for ages, it's just not worth holding on to when I can trade my phone in and get 2/3rds my money back and pay 1/3 for the newest one

How can you not have Crazy Johns??? :/

i got my first contract there, since that expired 7+ years ago, ive just been out of contract and buy my phones outright when i want a new one and that leaves me to swap plans etc without locking into anything

yep, i think i've had 1, maybe 2 contracts during my mobile history, like the freedom to move if something good comes up. And i saw this TPG ad on the back of a bus, and i'm in, activated the account tonight. Should be up and running in about 24-48 hours.

what plan you got at the moment Ash?

Been with soul (bdigital) for almost 3 contract legnths (so almost 6 years), Usually just upgrade plan/phone when the time comes. Im on a $49 cap with $300 worth of calls.

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
