R31Nismoid
Ok excuse the limited details as its all i have for now. 60 Minutes is doing a story about young drivers, showing brain development in the late teens and how this impacts driving skills. We are looking for drivers who are 16,17,18 and 19-years-old to participate in driving exercises at Calder Park in Melbourne this week Requirements - You obviously need a valid Drivers License: Learners or Probationary. - Between 16-19 years of age Please email me if you are interested in attending or taking part. I will forward you the contact details and so on. This will involve professional instructors too, so L platers do not fear, there shouldnt be any legal issues. [email protected] Preference wil go to SAU-Vic members, or younger siblings of members as a one of the many bonuses of being paid up Pays to be a member i must say Thanks Ash Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/241802-rare-opportunity-with-60-minuteschannel-9/#findComment-4218919 Share on other sites

2rismo
Maybe Peter Overton just wants to show once and for all, he is really Mark Skaife...Overton Skaife Never picked that before. Aside from the massive hooter and the blame-his-failings-on-others attitude, Skaife could be Overton's twin. Have either of you two actually watched it? Was a very good, well put together article... if you bother to watch it of course. Apart from the big brother system thing (which wont happen because state gov't cant revenue raise if there are no fines), it was very good Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/241802-rare-opportunity-with-60-minuteschannel-9/#findComment-4253166 Share on other sites
JamesK
As Ash said I thought it was pretty good but I would have liked to seen more test drivers I think they only had 2 or 3 one of a younger age and one older, it would have been nice for a more through run down on that part such as families in different area's I know a lot of farmer kids who have to drive everyday around the field and I know when I use to live in Brisbane this sick little 11yr old drove a dirtbike like there was no tomorrow his experience on a bike would definitely contribute to his awareness on the road, and same for the opposite a mature age person who have only been driving for awhile compared to a younger person who got their P's the day they were legal EDIT: Oh and that statistic of 2 P plate driver's dying every week...thats just scary, really make you think. I also wanted to know (if you guys watched the vid) you opinion on that car they were testing, it limits your speed depending on your GPS position and what speed limit it has stored in it's database, I don't know about you but it seems to me like one of those things where it seems like a good idea on paper but in reality, thats another story. Think about it what happens if you rely on that feature to much? You floor it all the way knowing the computer will limit your speed to whats legal what happens if you step into a car which doesn't have it and forget? Seems stupid but if you own that car and thats how you learned to drive I think it's possible. And also what if the speed changes? I know my TOM TOM has a feature like that and it tells me that some area's on Princess highway is 100 when it's 80 now and a lot of the highways are all 80 where in some cases my TOM TOM says is 110! I know it needs to be updated but then I would need to buy a brand new map and I just don't have the money for that. Like I said seems like a good idea...on paper, What do you guys think? Apart from the big brother system thing (which wont happen because state gov't cant revenue raise if there are no fines), it was very good Sure, but but it's obviously titled acordingly so that people will be shocked and watch it out of fear. 60 mins has become a softer version TT or ACA in recent years. Viewed as a whole it's great, but it's the fear they create that people remember. R31Nismoid
Its just titled to catch viewers. If you watched the entire 13mins, you wouldnt remember the title unless it was starting you in the face. The first half was all about doom/gloom and fear. Then (for a change) there was some reasonable suggestions and solutions unlike the typical 'road safety guy' saying 25+ and the usual rubbish that in reality wont change shit. A fair increase in rural areas (all according to the below), some interesting numbers in there too etc. http://www.caradvice.com.au/9032/2007-australian-road-toll/ 2 p-platers a week dying is a bad thing, but whats that stat compared to the rest? 730 p-platers out of 1616. So about half. But does that take into account the times of day they are on the roads? What kinds of traffic? What factors were involed? (speed/drink/drugs/sleep etc) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/241802-rare-opportunity-with-60-minuteschannel-9/#findComment-4253464 Share on other sites
