Hi guys,

I'll be heading to Japan for about 2 weeks in late Feb/early March, just to tour around. I'm wondering if there are any places that hire out GTRs - I would prefer the R35 however I'm not really fussed if the older models are available.

I'm pretty sure it will be pricey if they do hire them out. Does anyone have an approximate cost for hiring them?

Cheers

LOL - looks like I'm getting my hopes too high. Is there anywhere they hire out Skylines (v35/v36). I'd like do drive something with some space and performance? Any other cars you recommend going for?

I've just returned from Japan and a couple of weeks ago hired an R35 GTR from Premium Rent a car. We had it from 9am to 8pm on a Saturday. It cost around Aus$660 all up. A 24 hour rental didn't suit us as we had to leave very early on Sunday morning for Fuji.

A couple of words of advice if you are going to rent one. Although the guys are very friendly, it would help if you got someone who speaks Japanese to make the booking. Also, we went by train to Gotanda Station and caught a taxi there.

As some of you will realise, Tokyo traffic is very congested, so dont expect to do more than 400kms in the 11 hours. It is bad manners to return the car late, too.

I have been in japan for 3 weeks now and have only seen 3 R33s and few v35s turns out they arnt to common

it depends on where you are man.. in Okinawa, Japan because there's a large percent of American military personnel it's kinda pop culture to have a "performance car" or what not. I see about 30-40 33's each day. As for Mainland Japan.. the real "Japan".. I've seen a trend in sales across the board.. Japanese people are infatuated with the newest and latest thing... so basically in relation to cars the you don't really have anything that's a S13, 14, 15 or R32, 33, 34 equivalent right now on the market.. it's all about boxy or vip cars.. getting back to the point of what I'm trying to say.. :spank: ... Japanese people keep selling their stuff to buy the newest thing... and the cycle keeps repeating... Japan auto wise it feels like the car scene performance wise is dying out.. the "performance" cars these days is something only the rich can afford.... not really for the diehard enthusist anymore. To add onto that I have a funny story... My friend was in a 180sx and a R35 pulled up next to him at the stop light. He gives the Japanese guy a thumbs up cause he's driving a R35. He guy (who's obviously wealthy.. he's even wearing a suit in the car) just laughs at him and punches the gas on the green light.

I donno sorry for my little rant. That's just how it seems to me. It's kinda cool cause if you live in Japan you can get these cars for dirt cheap because of this(not in Okinawa, Japan but in Mainland Japan)...

before renting one just make sure you know what your going to do and where your going.

your hotels may not have car parks as 2 of the hotels i stayed at didnt.

also parking anywhere is a menice unless you know how to use there systems.

I couldnt figure it out i was luck to have a jap guy with me.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
