id go Jap stuff, but thats just me. Pipercross doesnt have panel filters for Skylines

just clean your current one

Lol, of course they have a filter to fit the skyline, just ask for this one:

Outside Length: 280mm

Outside Width: 165mm

Height: 28mm

To fit,

Nissan S15/14 200SX,S13 180SX,Pulsar GTiR,N14 N15,Skyline R32,R33,R34

Subaru WRX,

Commodore VL-VS V6&V8

Hmmm, if you say "Holden VS" or similar you'll get the right filter, although I had the same issue when calling around, had to say it was the same as a Holden VS filter...

Did you have a decent hi-flow panel filter in there before?

My guess is stock nissan or similar, so of course your going to notice a minor difference going from crap to a decent flowing filter setup.

If stock airboxes can make 400rwkw on BIG GTR's (with the side airbox restrictor thingo removed for the flow in R34's)

Good enough for run of the mill setups below that, plenty of threads on it, Dezz even posted some dyno results which showed such little difference it wasnt worth going pods due to factoring in increased intake temps

Stock filter on the car when purchased, no idea how old but by looked old, so i went from an old stock to a new pod, the minor difference may have been the same just by putting a decent panel filter or maybe even just replacing the stockie? Will probably go back to a good brand panel filter soon, hoping to reduce the induction noise and after reading your quote above about the increase intake temps thats the last thing I need living in Queensland.

Apex-i panel filter (or similar non oiled filter) in the stock airbox...

Been using one in my car since the beginning, and still doing the job with the current power output....No issues with response whatsoever.

Thanks dezz!

Any idea where i can find one? Are they on Just Jap or somewhere else?

Always ordered mine from Nengun in the past...they're good for about 25,000km so 1 a year would be more than enough for most people...

I'm sure Just Jap or similar would sell them...Never really checked. A trader on here (Kudos maybe) also had some at one stage....I might have even got my last one off him come to think of it...

Blitz also sell a non oiled panel filter, but I've never used it personally.

Thats like banging your mrs backdoor and not using the lubricant. lolz

LOL!

I have lost count on how many sexual reference comments you have made.

I wanna goto Centrefold Lounge, havent been there before... :)

Ofcourse they do!

But I don't know whether to get this, or the Apexi one for a few dollars more

or to just stick with the one I have which is about 25000kms old. :)

opoos didnt read it thoroughly :yucky:, now this may be some good panel filter.

+1 not using oil filter , i have a mint 1 laying around red foam oily. didn't want to use it so i bought a blitz one..

im just going to throw this out there but i had a stocko box and now have an eclosed box and the only reason i did this is not because i noticed some neck snapping increase in power but because i like the sound =)

well that confirms exactly what i thought.

Going from a unknown stock filter to a pod is of course going to give you something of a gain.

Hell the filter in there could have been 5+ years old!

I can help with an A'PEXi panel for $101.20 delivered via Express Post, these can be found within the following thread within our trader section:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/A-...-R-t244157.html

just wanna add that now that its summer, my under bonnet temps get very hot now, i have an in cabin thermommetrer that reads the temp around the pod filter and its been getting up to nearly 70degrees celcius, a massive decrease in power on these hot days and i tend to use more fuel aswell, on open roads or cold days the air intake temp is the same as the atmosphere temp,,,,, I got an apexi pod that is uncovered and i believe i would benefit from the stock box with highflow panel or an enclosed pod that is shielded from some of the engine and turbo heat. But for on the track i cannot see how the heat would effect the air intake temps purely because of the amount of cold air being thrown into the engine bay at high speeds.....

drifting is another story completely and if i was to drift allot i would definately shield the pod or put standard box back in...

well that confirms exactly what i thought.

Decided to test the difference yesterday, took the car out for around 30 min with the pod for some semi spirited driving with an outside temp of 28 deg (10.30.am). Then came home opened the bonnet, waited for it to cool, ripped off the pod, mounted the original filter box assembely completely as standard, standard flat panel filter (The original one i took out) and took her out for another spin. Took about 50min to change over all up and be back in the car. This was for my own testing purpose only and i can't say it will be the same for everyone but...........she is running fantastic in my opinion i have actually improved it by going back to the panel and it's not even new. Note that i had no form of CIA and the pod was just sitting in the engine bay where the box was, also i have the std intercooler so there was no holes under the pod either. The biggest improvement overal was sound, for me i think when i put the pod on the induction sound was so loud (all i could hear in the cabin) you just thought that performance was increased but now i can hear the exhaust note perfect and the sweet, sweet sound of that turbo winding up :P . Thankx heaps for the advice R31Nismoid i would have just considered the pod to be better before reading about the temp affects.

50 mins to put the stock Airbox back in?? LOL did you use your teeth? haha.

Iv just done the same thing, i switched back to Stock Dump/Front because the JJR piece of shit split was causing so much trouble. Now its running perfect.

At the same time i put my stock airbox and an Apexi panel filter in (had the Apexi Pod)

Overall im dam impressed. The sound is so much better, hear that turbo spool, and if your that way inclined, you can still hear induction and the BOV too. Think ill stick to the panel filter from now on. I like it.

i have a pod filter set up now, made a custom box and trimmed top half of airbox to fit the box.... for cold air as i have the stock cooler in my r34.........i prefer the sound of the pod and there is abit more response.......i was using a blitz sus power non oiled panel filter which was and improvement on stock item.......wont be going back to it now as i have hacked my airbox lol........anyone want the blitz filter drop me a pm and come pick it up! its like new..:D

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
