emissions test is one thing, youll need to have en engineer hire out a test track for a day and test out the brakes etc etc.

Emissions tests are easy to get past, its the other tests that an engineer has to do that cost a lot more. Best bet is to call up a regency approved engineer and have a chat to him about it.

but if its a bigger turbo and same engine why would you have to change brakes?

From what I recall it's about 345mm eyebrow height (ie: from the middle of the wheel to the guard).

because youre increasing the final power output of the engine and changing the way it behaves. good thing about skylines is that they come with fairly big brakes anyways so a set of good pads/rotors and fluid are usually more than enough.

Hey Guys, just copped my first defect for my 33 last night on my way through pt wakefield coming back from a weekend on the YP. only just put a new exhaust on that weekend! coppa looked over my car for a fair while, its pretty much stock besides my 18s zorst and pod filter. after not finding much he eventually deccided my exhaust was too close to the ground and im off to regency.

problem is i will fail and eyebrow height test atm by about 2 cms so need to get hold of some stock springs

that will probably eliveate my exhaust clearance issue too.

anyone got any lying round??

also anyone been through with 9.5 inch wide rims on the back???

go through with 9.5s and your bound to fail.

also , id just replace the exhaust with a stock system from the cat

thats what i did on mine and i passed with flying colours

your also going to have to do more work on the vehicle to make sure everything else is up to scratch as they will go over the whole car.

also make sure you have an english tyre placard on the vehicle (usually affixed on the drivers side door jam)

chuck stock wheels on , stock exhaust and stock suspension in and you'll pass

yeah, sound advice damage, just lined up some stock rims and i still have the cat back i just took off. hopefully someone has some stock springs lying around and ill be sweet. think i might get my bushes and tie rods ect looked at before i go in just to be sure.

Failed a regency visit recently for a few minor things, anyway I had my car booked into the mechanics today to get my $120 worth of wheel bearings (cbf doing them myself) and $50 worth of child seat anchor points installed, spent $50 on a permit to drive it there as well.

10 mins after I drop it off I get a call "Your car already has child seat anchor points, also your wheel bearings are fine it is just a $40 HICAS arm thats stuffed".

Pretty bloody annoyed, you'd think regency would make sure before writing these things on the notice that you do in fact not have them. Could have had it on the road a month ago as the HICAS arm is a piece of piss to replace, not to mention the wheel bearings and anchor points I now have to sell second hand.

Anyone else had an experience like this? I will be writing a written complain to them about it after I get my car passed, would send it before but I don't want to step on any toes before it gets regod. Is it likely I will get anything other than a mild apology?

try and find a local MP that'll be sympathetic... some of them are biased, but some of them are really good in looking after their constituents

If they get enough of them they might do something, I'd like the mechanic who inspected my car to get some feedback however. Maybe if someone tells him he might look a bit harder next time and not waste someone elses time.

I don't really expect them to do anything for my benefit, I just want some heads banged and hopefully some improvements. It can't hurt sending a letter.

i went though with my car yesterday looked over all the car as expected all the initial problems had been rectified which was fine. but he cleared me of everything apart from my headlights, i have the factory zenon hid's for the 34 and they didn’t pass me? is that right, I questioned him and he said they weren’t end of story and was a real wank about it. I said about they newer BMW's n all that with the HID's n all he said was 'well this is a nissan not a bmw' rather annoyed because i was really polite n calm with him n got nothing but a rude old man.

What do you guys think? do i need to now find some non-hid headlights? is it true that there not legal?

The headlights are fine but they have to be fitted with Halogen globes, HIDs are only legal if the car is fitted with auto leveling headlights. BMW = Auto leveling, Skyline = no auto leveling.
