The EVO split the plenum where the idle control stepper motor bolts on.

bummer  the car was super quick all day. and in fact all the cars seemed to be pretty reliable with no big stacks and no big blow ups which was nice to see. a few little dramas but nothing that caused any oil downs etc.

Vi-PEC wins Superlap !!!

Well done Insight Motorsport on taking out the Superlap Event.

Scott Kuhner has prepared, engineered and tuned the car and runs a V88 ecu and uses E85 fuel.

Scotty did plenty of hours on the car up to the event and did plenty of overnight 5am sessions on it to get it ready.

top stuff guys.

They also took out clubsprint event in the evo9 which uses a Vi-PEC pnp ecu and uses E85.

AND Federal 595RS-R tyres Paul

Ahhh... good to hear that it's only a minor problem.

Everyone was a little shocked, we were all hoping to see 1:11s from the car in the balls-out flying lap

We have too many brand whores on this forum

I think you're overreacting steve.. I dont think you'd be getting so worked up if you were drinking an icy cold Coca Cola. Taste the sensation.

Congrats to all the competitors and winners!

I was there on the Saturday (Black S13 with GT wing) but couldnt make it on the Sunday unfortunately.

Not many cars were there on the Saturday but still more than enough to drool over!

Notice the natsoft times dont show all competitors - there were 2 nice R32 GTR's at the practise but arent showing any times on natsoft. Anyone know what happened to them and what they ran?

Adz picked it. the track was definitely slower than last year. :D maybe 1 to 2 seconds off. possibly due to lots of rain during the week and no big events with cars on slicks running for a bit. when I was driving on saturday the track felt very green.

which just goes to show how fast the evo with garth driving is. he still bagged a flat 12 which is stupid fast! well done to those guys.

mark and russ were happy. a 13.6 on the cars first outing was great, and that was with no front drive. the car was toasting the rear tyres for most of the track. apart from that the car ran faultlessly all day. :ninja:

haha, it looks like a drift car!

I wonder if the front drive problem is the same issue they had with the 33 gtr at the Bathurst sprint.

Didnt the BSM cars go through a similar spate of problems a while back?

Regardless it sounds like this car is going to be a total time attack weapon when they get power to all 4.

Big showing for Vi-PEC in its 1st serious event...maybe they can now be considered as a REAL alternative to MoTeC...as they removed the MoTeC that Garth used to run and fitted the Vi-PEC with a marked improvement in the running of the engine.

Considered an alternative to the best ecu in the world,,,settle down tiger.

More like it was Garth's great driving than an ecu change.

I think I know what I'm talking about and Garth was screaming through T1 and up to T2,,,way faster and smoother than anybody else. When you can get off the throttle and get back on it between T1 and T2 says a lot for your driving and car setup.

I think his quick times had more to do with a well sorted suspension and the driver extracting the best from it.

NEIL!!!! HOW DARE YOU!! :ph34r::D:D

Anyone know if the black R32 GTSt from Vic got through the day with no dramas? Hope Russ Jr went well in the little GTSt.

Good times!

I had so much fun. I really under-estimated the track though. It is such a drivers track and suspension is super important and revealed some big weaknesses in my setup. If only I knew a few weeks ago I would have come up for the sat as well. I would have made a world of difference knowing the track. My only practice is on V8 supercars on xbox haha. And they handle better on xbox.

Ending up with a 1:24:3 is good enough for me for first time out. I started on high 1:26s so came down nearly 3 secs.

Quality of cars was outstanding. Blew me away and plenty of inspiration for the lower budget competitors. I hope that superlap continues to do these events. I spoke to the Yokohama guys and they seemed keen enough to continue if they get support. I was plugging a Sandown superlap to the sponsors and organisers the whole time I was there!!!

Oh yeah... and I officiall got the best prize even if I wasn't that fast! Advan RS wheels from the raffle haha! I spent a lot of money (for my budget) getting to superlap so it was incredible to get something back.

Mate what can I say,,,a car I hate,,,won. The man driving it,,,drove it great. Congrats big time to him.

Russ & Marks R34 sat me on my arse,,,most peeps look at the whole picture but I fell in love with the little stuff like the mirrors and the cars start up panel.

Congrats have to also go Mr Versatile as well,,,nice driving mate

Neil.

hey gents!!

Well once again had ball!! really loved the format!

have to say well done the Bel garage boys the Evo looked like a rocket ship on track! also a few other cars not far behind martin & cam, mark well done,

also was great too watch John boston get round the track , loved it! i tried to stick with him in the r35 but the bloody thing was handling like a boat!! i had no chance but got a few lines off him before he got away ! thanks JB

We just got home now and pretty tired but i am going to post a link to a little incar of our drift pig, mark drove it bloody well considering, it certainly was a bit of a handful!

we are rapt with it's first outing and it will only improve from here , looking forward to a few drinks at the nissan/datsun nationals with a few of you a morgan park at easter.

cheers russ

    • Yeah, hard to find and a pain in the ass to change with the transverse engine. I’ve worked on a GTiR before and it’s not a job I’d ever want to do again. theres a company in South Africa that makes RS3 gearbox adaptors for the AWD SR20 including gearbox mounts, so I could modernise it and go a dual clutch with paddles. For now tho, it ticks all the boxes. Super cheap, can throw the kids and their junk in the back, and SR20 that I can turbo cheaply, a CVT that’s not a dog’s breakfast like the V35, and has 80% interchangeable parts with stuff I can source from the wreckers cheaply…. But it’s still unique. I love the wagon back of the Autech version. It’s cheap enough that I can buy another stock manual FWD Primera with SR20VE, swap the gearbox to the N15 pulsar short gear ratio box, swap out the brakes to the R32 ones I pulled off my 32, register it on club plates and take it racing. $1300 shipping from NZ. Heaps of parts and aftermarket builders for transverse SR20’s in NZ.
    • Hard to say, just pop the rocker covers off and have a look if you think it's cammed. You probably need to replace the valve cover gasket/half moons anyways.
    • From my youth: GTi-R clutch change is a massive pain. The gearboxes are fragile? But the car is super cool and I want one 😢
