What do you guys think is better a 970 black edition or a 970 wind force ?

Apart from clockspeeds (usually isn't much to be honest) and the styling they will be the same. There isn't really much that distances the same cards today. They are both good so get whichever is the best deal.

I will probably only have windows on the ssd and what is a good price for a 3.5 ghz i5?

Not sure but you could always look on eBay and see what kind of deal you can get. If you're in the UK you could look on Scan.co.uk which is a pretty decent site, I've got quite a few components off there and so far no issues with them.

eBay you can get decent parts if you're willing to look around. I've just bought an old EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SuperClock which cost £40 + £5 for delivery, I didn't need it but I like them so it was an impulse purchase.

My R9 280X with 3gb of DDR5 has been doing very well with modern games lately.

Few hiccups with GTA5 due to AMD, but runs 50-90fps on high-ultra settings (all the advanced graphics and distances turned off). And been running really well with project cars, maxing out everything except shadows and reflections (to keep it smooth). Also none of the issues that the 290 cards are having

Have the same card, also surprised how well it plays modern games.

Just started to collect parts for a new build, my 5 year old PC is starting to show its age.

Starting off with a Mini ITX and a Lian Li.

I have the case, but i'm waiting for all the new lineup of GPU's to be released.

How do you guys get neat cable managements?

My case looks like a rats nest inside with explosions of cables everywhere, and my poor attempt at cable managements only made the inside 1000xs worse...

Be gentle with the Corsair cooler. Also that WD Green drive, if you're doing anything more than archiving, you're gonna have a bad time.

Corsair is holding up really good at the moment as i have overclocked it to 4.2Ghz without any dramas. I will order WD Black 1TB drives, agreed the Green will cause trouble other than mass storage as its limited to 5200rpm versus the 7200rpm of Blue and Black.

Windows 8.1 + OS X 10.8.2:

It's overkill for the games that I play.

The WD greens are nice and quiet though. But horribly slow.

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
