Yep - Morgan and Caterham are imported by the same guy.

He has an Aero 8 series 2 as a demo (see attached)

The Aero Max is a bit cooler, but non in Aus. They are quite expensive for what they are - I still think a nicely done Cobra replica would be a better car.

James,

just wondering the sticker price on the Maserati GranTurismo? GF's old man is apparently looking to trade up from his 3200GT(A) and im curious to know how much they go for (without being rude and asking him of course lol)

Hi all - I'm trying to plan my fleet for the new year.

Of the existing machines... Some cars are great and will stay, some cars are great but should probably be refreshed, some cars aren't that great and some are great in my eyes - but just never get used. Following is a list in order of category. I need to keep the total number to around 26.

Group 5

Aston DB9 Volante Sell

Aston DB9 Coupe

Ferrari 360 CS

Ferrari F430 Spider

Ford GT

Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder Refresh, maybe even get a white one?

Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera

Group 4

Audi R8

Audi R8 R-Tronic

Bentley Continental GT

Maserati GranTurismo

Mercedes AMG CLK 63 Black Series

Porsche GT3 Chip and exhaust?

Group 3

Maserati Quattroporte

Aston Martin Vantage

Group 2

BMW M3

Audi RS4 Avant

Hummer H2

Group 1

Ariel Atom 2

Lotus Exige S

Mitsubishi Evolution X MR

Audi Q7 S-Line

-

Rules:

Must be available in Australia - so no Alfa 8C

Must be a current model (within reason) - so no Countach

Must be 'affordable' - so no Zonda F

I'm after ideas on great cars - not complete lists. Things like a Continental GTC and Aston DBS are in the works - and a GTR is a given.

But what are we missing? What is cool that you can get in Aus that people would like?

Happy to hear your thoughts!

J

This is a hard question as you've already got most of the best cars on the market :(

In addition to the italics above;

-New M5

-Ultima GTR spyder, they call it a "can am" (pretty sure they're still available in Aus, we have one at work thats aus delivered which is a 5.7L with an HKS turbo hanging off the side)

-The latest sl from merc, SL55's or SL63's arent too badly priced, although some members may have those already

-997 Turbo/Cab, would be nice to have a droptop porka floating around. Didnt you have a Turbo a while back?

-Dodge Viper, if there's someone bringing them in

-Would love to see a 997 GT2 but its a bit pricey, unless maybe an Aston gets sold...

-GT3 RS. Great addition to the white one and rare as hens teeth but not too expensive

-Ferrari California. I think its quite ugly personally but as its the new Italian on the block maybe the members would like it

-E55 AMG. Along the same lines as the white Masa

Thats all i can think of :(

And an R36 Wagon :action-smiley-069:

I hear you on the R36, but not sure it would fit the image of the company.

It's a well-sub-$100K ride and if I was paying $36k pa, well... life's too short.

It would be more viable to test-drive one at the dealers and pay for the privelge of the top shelf stuff.

James out of curiosity how much is it going to be to bring in a Challenger and get it on the road?

Will you be bringing in one of the special editions or the standard one? ie. the drag race model or the Targa model (or is the Targa from a 3rd party source?)

You have to remember the way the Club works is that different level cars are worth different point values. So using an R36 would costs bugger all points wise compared to the ferrari F430 Spyder. Price wise the R36 is the same as the EVO X (if not slightly dearer for a fully specc'd one) but it falls into the Group 1 cars - which they have bugger all of for use on the roads - and yet has some usefullness that you don't get with a Lotus or Atom, and I can tell you is suprisingly fun to drive. Remember the R36 is the fastest production car VW has ever produced!

So if a member wanted to take the wife and kids away for the weekend the R36 wagon would be one of the few cars the club would have that would allow them to fit everyone plus luggage, prams etc into the car and yet be a damn sight more fun than their 4WD tractor they no doubt already own. I bet it would get more use than James stupid ugly Q7.

:D

    • Also, I logged some data from the ECU for each session (mostly oil pressures and various temps, but also speed, revs etc, can't believe I forgot accelerator position). The Ecutek data loads nicely to datazap, I got good data from sessions 2, 3 and 4: https://datazap.me/u/duncanhandleyhgeconsultingcomau/250813-wakefield-session-2?log=0&data=7 https://datazap.me/u/duncanhandleyhgeconsultingcomau/250813-wakefield-session-3?log=0&data=6 https://datazap.me/u/duncanhandleyhgeconsultingcomau/250813-wakefield-session-4?log=0&data=6 Each session is cut into 3 files but loaded together, you can change between them in the top left. As the test sessions are mostly about the car, not me, I basically start by checking the oil pressure (good, or at least consistent all day). These have an electrically controlled oil pump which targets 25psi(!) at low load and 50 at high. I'm running a much thicker oil than recommended by nissan (they said 0w20, I'm running 10w40) so its a little higher. The main thing is that it doesn't drop too far, eg in the long left hand fish hook, or under brakes so I know I'm not getting oil surge. Good start. Then Oil and Coolant temp, plus intercooler and intake temps, like this: Keeping in mind ambient was about 5o at session 2, I'd say the oil temp is good. The coolant temp as OK but a big worry for hot days (it was getting to 110 back in Feb when it was 35o) so I need to keep addressing that. The water to air intercooler is working totally backwards where we get 5o air in the intake, squish/warm it in the turbos (unknown temp) then run it through the intercoolers which are say 65o max in this case, then the result is 20o air into the engine......the day was too atypical to draw a conclusion on that I think, in the united states of freedom they do a lot of upsizing the intercooler and heat exchanger cores to get those temps down but they were OK this time. The other interesting (but not concerning) part for me was the turbo speed vs boost graph: I circled an example from the main straight. With the tune boost peaks at around 18psi but it deliberately drops to about 14psi at redline because the turbos are tiny - they choke at high revs and just create more heat than power if you run them hard all the way. But you can also see the turbo speed at the same time; it raises from about 180,000rpm to 210,000rpm which the boost falls....imagine the turbine speed if they held 18psi to redline. The wastegates are electrically controlled so there is a heap of logic about boost target, actual boost, delta etc etc but it all seems to work well
    • hahah when youtube subscribers are faster than my updates here. Yes some vid from the day is up, here:  Note that as with all track day videos it is boring watching after the bloopers at the start.  The off was a genuine surprise to me, I've literally done a thousand laps around the place and I've never had instability there; basically it rolled into oversteer, slipped, gripped and spat me out. On the way off I mowed down one of the instructor's cones and it sat there all day looking at me with accusing cone eyes as I drove past. 1:13:20 was my fastest lap, and it was in the second session, 3rd lap.  It (or me!) got slower throughout the day as it got hotter.
    • It sounds like you want what the Toyota Landcruisers have for their roof racks. Wanna know what you end up with? Rust holes in the roof, and water everywhere...
    • Discovered today that if I select reverse first and take my foot off the brake, then select drive, the drive indicator light works and so does the tiptronic gear indicator.
    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Does anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
