You have to be careful about changing the ratios. I believe a stock R33 GTR has 4.11 gears. I think that the GTS4 has 4.30.

My GTR ended up having rears at 4.30 and fronts at 4.11 - and that stuffed my transfer case real good. I had to change it out to get it back to stock. I had a shop do it. Rear would be relatively easy. But the front is a real bear since it is attached in the transfer case and oil pan.

the only real viable option is r32 GTS4 gears. 32 GTS4 is actualy 4.375:1 and yes you need both front and rear crown wheel and pinions. they are a good upgrade from the GTR 4.111 gears. and they are not easy to find!

ah, well if you want to go that way then R34 gears are the way to go. but to be honest most people want more acceleration/less top speed. going to 3.9s will give you more top speed but cost you acceleration. considering with the stock gearing you can get to 300km/h (which without decent power you'll never see on any aus track) then i'm not sure what you want to make it even higher still?

you may need to confirm though that the 34 crown wheels and pinion gears will work with your 33 diffs. i'm not sure as I've never heard of anyone actually wanting the 3.9 gears. unlesss you live neat the autobahn and want to play with some ferraris and lambos!

i'm go out on limb here here and guess he's after highway economy. not everyone is after crazy acceleration. i've had the same idea

I'm getting a 3.6 final drive put into my R34GTT, I do HEAPS of highway and freeway driving, so I can justify doing it... I'll find out how it goes when I pick it up tomorrow..

Hahaham I've been to a few different websites, and I've recovered a range of 'different' final drive readings:

3.55

3.545

3.369

3.27

3.266

I'd like to know, which bloody one is actually correct...

    • Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
    • I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
