One of the latest car mags has a comparison between the GTR round bathurst and a v8 supercar - just comparing times, and speeds at each corner etc.

I had to hold back the laughter and "what the...?"'s because it came pretty camn close to the speed of a v8 supercar on most corners and on 1 it was faster through the corner...yet they were basically saying its just not as good as the v8 supercars and has some brake fade when pushed hard etc. etc.

I just thought to myself..."hello - they're matching a stock standard factory car against a custom-built, race-engineered v8 monster"...and look how close it came...

it just made me a lot more confident that if they built up the GT-R to race spec and competed with the v8's, we'd again see the GT-R dominating and probably again see the rules changed and the GT-R excluded again...

interestingly it would've been better had they driven factory ford and holden v8's round the track...but that probably would've hurt sales for the mag.

pretty sure it also said that Nissan Australia has been asking questions about getting the GT-R racing in the series again...and that V8 supercars officials are open to allowing other manufacturers in but no plans have been made at this stage or something like that...

They are open, but im lead to believe there is a rule stating that the car entering has to have sold so many 1000's before hand? Could be wrong but i heard that somewhere. Isnt that why Holden didnt enter the Monaro?

Wonder how a worked XR6T would go.

In the V EIGHT supercars?...

So how would a Skyline enter exactly? being a V SIX? :D

I felt like a nub when i read your post :D but then realised the reason i mentioned it was because the thread was talking about entering the R35 ;) So i feel betterrer now.

Including orders many 1000's have been sold, but I beleive you are mistaking this with homologation.

I was meaning like in the 100,000 mark :D

Yeah i probly am, its just something i heard in a discussion a few years back when the Monaro was released.

But there MUST be some sort of criteria on what can enter? Whats to stop some of the very high end V8 powered cars entering? Corvette's and the likes.

Oh and above, when i say "Skyline" i meant R35 GTR, but im sure everyone knew that.

Edited: Just had a quick flick through a few pages and couldnt find anything other than its Falcon Vs a "Custom" Commodore. No other reason than Aussie rivalry. lol.

Edited by gotRICE?

100,000 but then how many of those custom made holden n fords have they sold? they like a foot shorter than the production model and dont have 1 piece that would fit on their stock counter part. essentially its a completely different car that just happens to look simmilar.

it aint about how cars have been sold and cylinders it has, its about who they want in the comp and what will make them the most money. they adjust the rules as neccesary to ensure that. they act like theres a rivaly between holden n ford but id say there gay lovers behind the scenes as they have made so much money from the series both on and off the track.

sorry adding the to off topic stray we got here :P

In fairness, the GTR currently uses a v8 in the superGT series - mainly because they had already developed the v8 engine for that series.

But in saying this, I dont know if it would have to be sold here with a v8 in order to be allowed to race with one?

Then you have the problem of a team coming up with the $$$ to back the GTR against the tried and tested ford & holden v8's. Not only is it a lot of money to spend on a car thats not guaranteed to win (you need good drivers too) - if it DOES win, the chances of being "booed" by the crowd (again) are about a million to one. You know, the "aussie rivalry" thing? haha more like "ford/holden is better because me, my brother, my mum, and my best friends uncle all drive one". lol :)

it had to be the safety car. its the only way it would ever get to the front of a v8 supercar without hidding a boost controller in the ash tray....

yeh i went there...

i'll bite :)

its already within 18seconds of the v8's time around bathurst (which is a fairly fast track). Thats in stock trim. Put some racing slicks, race suspension, brakes, less weight (race cars are just a shell - no interior), and maybe a few extra hp (it only needs another 50-100hp to match the v8's) - and I think you'd be well proven wrong. Nissan do v8's too (incl for racing) so we could even do that if the turbos really are that offensive.

I read your comment, saw what car you had listed next to your name, and wondered what you're doing on a nissan forum? (scratches head) I dont mind if you like nissans, i mean thats why we're all on here right? Welcome - maybe we'll convert you yet?

It had to be the safety car because the rules wont allow it to be anything else....plus its good marketing for Nissan. :)

Also the popularity of the race would decrease if a car made in another country beat our locally made ones. Thats just how it is here. I'm a huge nissan fan but I'd probably not want the GTR's racing with the v8's (its never gonna happen but entertain the thought), just because of the controversy and arguments it would create. The GTR is too good for that. ;)

Yeah why don't we start comparing a road car to stripped out professional touring cars.

Better yet, why don't we assume that the touring cars are very similar to the road cars sold by the Aussie manufacturers and that because the touring cars are faster than a Nissan the road cars are as well.

Who needs common sense and reason when you have biased opinion?

I think you will find that it was a misprint regarding corner speed where it appeared that the GTR was faster.

    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
